I have £40ish of trade-in stuff (Meteos, Phoenix Wright 1 and 2, GRAW1, Ass Crud, and The Darkness) and CEX is right outside Cardiff train station. Tomorrow, should I trade these games in for a no-cash copy of Far Cry 2 or Dead Space?

I'm leaning towards Dead Space. I'm reasoning this is a typical length (10ish hours I think), single-player-only shooter; hence, a game I can play through and trade back in sometime next month for yet another in the Annual Games Deluge. Whereas Far Cry 2 I might want to hang on to longer, for the multiplayer and suchlike. Plus it seems like it's probably a longer game. Both games look pretty damned cool though.

Does anyone here have both games?

In that case Dead Space would be a good alternative to all that yawnsome stat-building drudgery.

Seriously though, if I had a choice between the two I'd go for..... Fable 2.

For what it's worth I'm hearing differing reports on Farcry 2, with some complaining over the single player campaign being somewhat lacking while I've only heard positive things about Dead Space which I'm really enjoying.

Far Cry 2 is bloody excellent. I haven't played Dead Space, however Zardoz likes it and he's likes mostly rubbish games where you're some sort of magical pixie that collects gems also Grim... likes it and he thinks that Two Pints is a great TV programme.

if you just want to blast through a medium length FPS single player, get dead space, then trade for far cry 2.

Ive been playing far cry 2 for about 7 hours now and im 12% in. To chapter 1.
There are 3 chapters.

Yes I have been procrastinating a bit, but, I think its one for the longer haul.
50 hours quoted on the box.

The Club is my neglected gem of 2008. It's fucking great.

Out of Far Cry 2 and Dead Space, Dead Space. Far Cry 2 is pissing me right off. It's nothing special. Dead Space will at least make you shit your pants.

My review of the Club from earlier this year ^^

I might do a feature soon about how ace it is.

working on the premise that you were near orgasmically enthusiastic about Resi 4 and Dead Space is a resi homage in space and you like space and it's quite short and may be a respite to Fallout I recommend getting Bungo Bungo Cat Throw

To be fair, you hardly play any games other than the modicum needed to provide a semi-informed review on them.

Yes, that was my thoughts to.

Anyway, I got Dead Space. My trade-in pile, if anyone is interested, was valued for these amounts in these shops:

CEX: £40
Game: £30.90
Gamestation: £26
HMV: £40

HMV had Dead Space and CEX didn't, so they won.

No, I'm not. If you want to be a games reviewer then you can't spend 50 hours playing a game to provide a review - you just don't simply have the time in order to do that, especially if you want to review x games a week/month (and you're doing it on your own).

I wasn't trying to be horrible (although I can see why you might think I was).

I was only joking really. It's not like two sentences in a forum post constitutes a review. However on that subject I think that getting a little bit beyond the tutorial at least should be a requirement.

HEY! I haven't reviewed it yet! I'm open to it being good on further play, I just haven't had time to play it more, which is why I haven't written a review. It really pissed me off for the first bit, though. I'll be playing it plenty before I review it, don't worry.

I thought that was surprising too -- I've usually found Gamestation prices to be better.

Zardoz wrote:

Yeah, it started last week, at 160 of their larger stores. I guessed they would offer good prices, on two grounds: one, their computers won't have a trade history to build prices from yet, and two, they might put a bit more on the prices for the first few weeks to create a positive first impression. And to get people talking -- call it the Pasta Hut effect.

I know man, hence my last post. Although I enjoyed it from the off but that was because I could tell that it was going to be a lot like Far Cry, which was probably my favourite shooter.

Me hearts FarCry, so will almost definitely be getting Far Cry 2 for Chrimble. The positive comments on here from various people, combined with the awesome looking stills and videos on Gamespot, have made sure of that.

I am replete with cardigans at present. I am, however, angling for a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches and a fedora.

It's a different game. My Daddio played it through and he enjoyed it, and as I watched there was loads of bits different from the PC version.

I'd argue that it's better, as there's no mutant stealth baboons in it, the 'predator' powers that you get are amusing without being ridiculous (scram your enemies to death!) and it's just jolly good fun. The obligatory mine/cave level is predictably pants, but there's some entertaining vehicle bits, lots of nice guns, and some gorgeous scenery.
