Lovely. my car has decided to start making a noise in the engine like I've run over a plastic bag and it's scraping along the ground for a second or two at a time every few minutes.

It also smells of burning and the clutch seems to stick slightly when bringing it back up to the top in 1st and 2nd.

I hope the garage will have appointments available for servicing tomorrow.

Grim... there was a "Boulder Nemesis" on Channel 5 last night at about 7-30pm. Is that like you are building. it looked, well, completely hatstand, to be honest with you.

It was so cold this morning that I actually thought my fingers were going to drop off. I need to get myself some proper gloves.

It is very cold, yes. I am going to a farm with my nephew. I hope to spend most of this time cupping a horse's chin.

Ho ho. I guess that's one way of irritating the police.

I put the recycling out earlier, which i'd sorted into papers, tins and plastics. Binman strolls up and tips all 3 carefully sorted boxes into a bin, and that bin goes on the back of the lorry. Ah well...

Into a recycling lorry or normal refuse? You should complain about that.

The recycling lorry looks pretty much the same as the normal lorry. Only difference being they come on alternate weeks. I suppose it's a good example of thermodynamics, though.

This week on Jaqui Smith Live.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7694408.stm

Say anything the government doesn't like and we'll throw you out of the country.

Why doesn't she just go stand in the next Zimbabwe elections and have done with it?

Nice summarising work in the article.

Quote:
Liberal Democrats home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne suggested the plans were inadequate and did not tackle those already living here or people preaching on the internet.

A few paragraphs later...
Quote:
"It doesn't deal with the people who are already here or indeed the people who are preaching hate over the internet," he said.

She'd make an excellent mod for an online forum.

I'm getting very close to ceasing to give a toss about this country's slide into a crappy version of authoritarianism. I'm trying to summon up enough civility to reply my MP's umpteenth 'the ID card scheme is wonderful' letter but the more I think about it the more depressed I get (on the plus side, this led to No2Id getting another donation).

Are you sure one's a recycling lorry?

We get one lorry every two weeks, which takes rubbish only, no recycling.
All the recycling you have to take yourself to the recycling place, where they have separate containers for everything (and yes, those go into separate lorries, I've seen it!).

Since the actual rubbish consists of a few inches of plastic wrappers in the bottom of the wheelie bin, I'm thinking of telling them not to bother coming down the lane any more, because it's wearing it out. They have a rubbish skip at the recycling place, and I'm going there anyway.

We have three (!) lorries that visit us. One is a normal refuse truck which collects our rubbish every fortnight, the other two turn up on the alternating week; one taking our recycling and the other taking our garden waste.

We get four! Normal (black bin) on even weeks, kitchen (green bin) on odd weeks, and recycling every week. Which is pretty handy.

Our flats have massive bins in a shed for refuse, and massive recycling bins at the other end of the estate for recycling. I've no idea how often they're emptied, but I'm almost certain they're both once a week.

A Bowler Nemesis? Was the guy (Plato?) racing a motorbike?

Anyway - no. The Nemesis costs £100k and is designed for going very, very fast over bumpy stuff. Mine is it's little brother, the Tomcat (once made by Bowler but not any more), which is (well, my version is) designed to go fast over very, very bumpy stuff. Like mountains.

Also, I've seen that video, it's ace! Suzuki's are great little off-roaders, although many people (especially Land Rover owners, the PS3 fanboys of the off-road world) will try and tell you they're not.
I've once been in water deep enough that I had to open the doors to let it flood the car so it would sink and I'd get traction again.

It wasn't Fifth Gear it was the Top Trumps programme with Robert Lewllyn and some other bloke. It smashed one of its wheels going over a small bump, well either that or they just pretended it did so they could show the hydraulic built-in jack thing.

That was the one. It wasn't very good, mind you. The programme.

They will have pretended - you can drop the fucking things forty feet onto their noses and they just drive off :)
I missed that. Shame.
Anyone know where I might find a torrent?

It would appear that C5 have an on-demand service that I didn't know about. Ace!
[edit]Oddly, it seems to suggest that you can watch the ones that haven't been televised yet.

Too late, I went in and asked the nice lady behind the counter, who looked at me like I was some sort of retard for wishing to use a cheque.

All#s well now, though, I'm just regaining the feeling in my bollocks from the cold.

Grrrrr! Why does noone listen to me?! Drives me up the pissing wall.

I ask Si to sort out some acetate artwork from upstairs while I was away last week and get them sent to our customer (one Mr.I-do-Kungfu-and-can-kick-your-face-in-Richardson) because he needs to edit it. I left the details in the week planner and everything, even an addressed envelope aswell-all he had to do was put a stamp on it and put the art in it...

Phil has just been in, gone fucking mental at me because I haven't done it-what am I supposed to say? That the boss is a complete and utter twat and cannot even post a letter? No, I have to take the flack for it. So then after I go out the back and really lay into him, so fuck it-fuck him I've had enough and I'm going to quit by the end of this week, I've had e-fucking-nough

Sorry for the rant, it's just so bloody frustrating when people don't listen to you

[Cue some smart-arse saying 'Pardon?' or something similar-hur hur hur]

It's not commonly done, I guess, and I wanted to get out on the bike and have a spin, and I couldn't be bothered digging the online banking details out of the box of stuff. That and slight poetic licence.

You want these. I have a pair and they're the best cycling gloves I've ever owned for winter riding. Warm, waterproof, windproof, and they fit well and allow good finger articulation so you don't feel like you're wearing mittens, like a lot of winter gloves do as they're so thick.

Despite it being rather cold this morning, I saw more bikers on the way in to work today than I ever saw during the summer in the mornings. Very odd.

Sorry for the rant, it's just so bloody frustrating when people don't listen to you

[Cue some smart-arse saying 'Pardon?' or something similar-hur hur hur]

Sorry, what were you saying Shin?

You want these. I have a pair and they're the best cycling gloves I've ever owned for winter riding. Warm, waterproof, windproof, and they fit well and allow good finger articulation so you don't feel like you're wearing mittens, like a lot of winter gloves do as they're so thick.

They look excellent - £27's a bit steep, though!

Trust me they're worth it. Provided you don't lose them they'll last you a good few years - I've had mine for three this year, and they're the only pair of winter gloves that have lasted more than one season for me, so I reckon that makes good value. I do have very large hands so am inordinately fussy about gloves as the big problem I get is lack of finger length which makes the gloves feel like they're restricting your movement.

Amazingly, I mentioned how cold I was this morning to Ange, and she nearly bought me exactly the same pair this lunchtime. The only reason she didn't is because I said I could borrow some from a friend at work.

She said she's going back to get them now. :luv:

Further to yesterday's conversation, MrsA has purchased a Wii Fit.

Gravy, it's never taken me this long to adjust to the clocks going back before. On the way home last night, my body was telling me "this is taking AAAAGGGGGEEEESSS" and I agreed. However, when I got home, it was only 6:15 (and I was wet), which is about average for me getting home.

Disorientation, FTW! :D

Despite it being rather cold this morning, I saw more bikers on the way in to work today than I ever saw during the summer in the mornings. Very odd.

Snowing rather heavily in Stoke today. It's led to one accident outside our offices which livened up the dull meeting I was stuck in. Not sure that it was wise for some bloke to move one of the cars with a forklift truck though.

It doesn't snow in October. Something's wrong there.
