Grim... the extremist terrorist sympathiser there. I expect this site will now be under gummint surveillance. Anyway, NOTHING TO HIDE NOTHING TO FEAR, and THERE IS NO PRIVACY ON THE INTERNET are phrases that spring to mind.

Looks like they've already discovered a flaw in the plan, but don't worry, they've come up with a great way to fix it

You no longer have to worry about terrorist attacks, but you may have to worry about terrorist muggings as mobile phone robberies increase by 1000000%. :S

The Passport thing is ridiculous.

The idea that has been running around my head today about this is that if the Gov had announced that they were making electronic tags that would randomly throughout the day tell the Gov where we were and that we all had to pop down the post office to pick ours up with our passport in hand would there be outrage?

Because thats whats they've done, except they hidden it with a device that if you decide not to own one now it will cause you to be pretty much social pariah.

Indeed.

I assume they've contacted all the terrorists and asked them nicely not to buy in bulk the day before the law comes in.

I'd better report the shop near uni that buys old cellphones and for cash.

Not too much, but the tone was along the lines of "Way ahead of you on this one, boy, and we addressed it before your letter, and now it's going to be scrutinized by parliament". I might reply asking him to ask around for me for a mini pupilage for next week, as it's betterer than reading...

I'm not too happy over it, either, but needs must when the devil rides.

I will look at what the other man said in his speech and then get back to him, and stuff like that.

EDIT: Although, I dislike the idea of pissing off barristers.

I have just read this thread! 8) Seriously, WTF? They are raging nutbars, the lot of them. How the fuck are the Tories the voice of reason in a debate over whether or not to bug every person in the country?

It is corruption on an enormous scale, this data will be sold to marketing companies. It wouldn't surprise me to hear about the new CDB sponsored by McDonalds.

And why the fuck is the minister for transport talking about this?

MrsA received a letter from our MP yesterday as well. Knowing she's a dirty hippy interested in the environment, he sent her a statement from the Environment minister and his response to it. Which was nice. I think i'm going to vote for him.

Hopefully. That, or he recognized the address from the missive I sent him, copied from you, and we are now marked down as DANGEROUS PEOPLES.

Gah what a twunt.

Still I;ve been talking to an ex-civil servent and some other people and they've given me some info I should have known - when I get a chance I'll be updating my site about it. But as I am in a hurry 3 points.

1) Basically, if you phrase your email as a question, then request he forward it to the person in charge of that section (so presumably JS) she has to reply And so does your mp. It basically gets a lot more notice. And eats up a lot more time of the mp. Which fixes the problem in his mind.

2) Also I believe that upon request Your MP has to give a number of guided tours of the houses of parliment a year. Where of course you could bug them about the bill. Which would be fun.

3) Finally I'm going to dig up a guide I wrote about making FOI requests. I think that could be quite fun...

I already know she's in favour of crazy crap, but I do (*don't) wonder why she didn't mention her own views. I basically sent skeptobot's 'short letter' with some rewriting, and it does include the question.

Looking at her voting record, I think she doesn't have views of her own, only the ones that are fed to her like Russel (SNIP- that's quite enough of that - Daily mail fearing Ed)

Ah, she's a Treasury bag carrier, so bound by collective responsibilty. I guess she's afraid to say anything for fear of losing her place on the greasy pole. No excuse for not saying what she thinks/is told to think though.
