I've just preordered the full band pack - yikes! I'm going to have to build an extension to house all my plastic instruments.

Is anyone else getting this? I'm justifying it by the fact that I'll be able to use the kit for at least three games. It's still expensive, though. ?:|

Has anyone in InternetLand yet played Rock Band with the drums from GH:WT? I want to know how they map the cymbals.

I don't know, and it doesn't look like it's going to concern me that much. Apparently RB2 is massively superior to the first game and for 800 points you're going to be able to download 45 songs from the first game for RB2 - doesn't that make the need for me to buy the RB1 disc pretty much obsolete?

Sorry, I mean, playing any Rock Band game (i.e. note track designed for four drum pads) with the GH:WT drums (i.e. three pads, two cymbols).

If this feels good I'd be in the market for the GH:WT instruments.

It appears that you can rent it, yes. They have no way of knowing if a particular Rock Band disc has been used for the import or not. I'm surprised they have started putting a pack-in code with game to control this stuff.

The songs you lose are Enter Sandman by Metallica, Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden, Paranoid by Black Sabbath and Monsoon by Tokyo Hotel. In all, you transfer 55 of the 58 core Rock Band songs, and 9 of the 10 European bonus tracks. Plus all Rock Band DLC automatically transfers into Rock Band 2 for free.

I played this at an 'event' and, honestly, when there's four of you powering through Eye Of The Tiger, it's enough to make grown men weep in unified joy.

Yeah, could do. Do Blockbusters rent it? It'd be more efficient. If they don't I wouldn't object to my copy doing a BETEO tour as long as I got it back in the end.

I only got 300 or something from it. You must be pretty good if you can complete vocals, drums and guitar on expert.

Hmm. I think I disagree. Where is the scam?

Rock Band is what it is; 68 tracks on the disc. The fact that they have allowed import of the tracks into RB2 is a damned good thing from where I am standing; it means I can have a single unified view of all my Rock Band song content to choose from when playing the game with a gang of mates.

It does do the thing where if you complete a higher difficulty level it gives you the achievements for all the lower difficulty levels too, though. Which really ought to be standard for everything, ever.

Also: you're totally right, the way they've handled upgrades from RB to RB2 is the exact opposite of a scam.

Can you not get the gamery points from RB1 via playing RB2 then, even if playing the same songs?

The whole 'music games' arms race amuses me greatly.

Just you watch... for the next iteration, one of them is going to get a keyboard, then the other is going to up the ante by adding one of those keyboard-guitars.

My gripe with Rock Band is that the sound of the drums being whacked drowns out a lot of the music.

If I understand correctly, my purchase of Rock Band was a wasted one if I am to ever get Rock Band II (and since I've just bought the first one, this is likely), without any indication that is the case. But of course, not ALL of the songs are available. No, no, no. Leave off a tasty number like Enter Sandman *wink* that'll ensure the kids still buy the first one.

No, Microsoft rules would forbid that -- 1000GP per disk, always.

It's better with those stick on pads. Plus, my drumming is a little... enthusiastic.

It's not Harmonix's fault that you didn't know about their incredibly generous take-your-music-into-the-next game feature, which has been widely publicised since Rock Band 2 was announced. Furthermore they wanted to let you bring all the songs over but could not get the music copyright owners to relicence all the tracks. I suspect that Metallica's deal with Guitar Hero (see the Death Magnetic whole-album DLC and the widely rumoured forthcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica) precludes future Metallica content in Rock Band.

Also, you need to have a Rock Band disc to do the import process, and I suspect doing it from a borrowed or rented copy is probably illegal under the T&Cs. It's not a wasted purchase.

Sorry for ressurecting an older thread. The wife's getting World Tour, just the single guitar pack, for her birthday. How d'you guys think it'll play with just the one instrument? Much like GH3 (which she loved on my bro's xbox btw) or only 1/4 of a game?

We actively encourage dead thread resurrection, so don't worry. To answer your question, I guess both. It'll play much like GHIII, but will also be half a game (bass and guitar, remember).

There wasnt a bass guitar career on rock band, not sure if theres one on guitar hero world tour, probably not because bass is boring.
Id quite like the new guitar hero guitar for the touch pad thing, apparently its pretty much essential for the studio create a track gimmick. But I really dont need another plastic guitar, Ive got 2 PS2 ones, and 3 for my xbox 360 and 5 real guitars hanging round the house aswell.

I'm not sure about GH:WT either, but I have read Rock Band 2 has a bass career.

I hope nobody was looking forward to the song creation mode; someone's posted up a couple of the example songs on YouTube and the results aren't looking too good...

I think the issue is that if you're good enough to make decent songs using that, you probably wouldn't bother as you'd write proper songs instead.

I'd forgotten about the song creation mode, tbh.

Unfortunately I don't think it matters how good you are at creating songs in it as the game appears to do a shit job of generating charts from songs (and I think those songs are example ones included with the game; if the developers can't get it right, what hope is there for the rest of us?).

Also the sounds appear to be coming from a Yamaha keyboard circa 1993.

I was very dubious about this. I read in interview where they say that whatever the person plays goes down as the Expert level note chart and the game auto-generates the easier difficulty levels; that sounded shit to me then and doesn't sound any better now.

GH:WT to get new Bond theme as DLC?

Reading through a press release about the upcoming Best Buy midnight opening launch event for Quantum of Solace, I stumbled upon this interesting tidbit:

Additionally, those in line at 10:00 PM will get the exclusive opportunity to be one of the first to play the Bond song “Another Way to Die” performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys which is soon-to-be-released as downloadable content for Activision’s Guitar Hero® World Tour.

Maybe Harmonix will counter it with their new bezzie mate's unreleased Goldfinger theme.
