We're going back, because it's ace and we like drinking.

Already secured are regulars Grim..., Craster, Curiosity and my good self as well as special guest Shunter Jamesoff.

And we'd like more of you. Requirements are the ability to drink, and crucially, the ability to drink while sat on the back of an abandoned milk float 25ft underground without laughing.

For the uninitiated, Shunt is 1 third bar, 1 third theatre group and 1 third "Bloody good way to use old London underground tunnels". It's effectively a giant pub located under London Bridge Station in London Village and it's huge, massively pretty and excellently awesome.

All are welcome, it's the clique everyone can be a part of!

Confirmed Headline Acts
Ange
Bobbyaro
Craster
Curiosity
Dudley
Gazchap
Grim...
JamesOff
JBR
Joans
Miss Curiosity
Myoptika
Shin
A Picture of Mimi

Possible Support Performances
Lave
nervouspete
Pod
Sir Taxalot
Spinglo Sponglo

Sounds interesting....will poppets be aplenty?

Have you seen the film 'Creep?' This kinda reminds me of it...

What did the Olympics ever do for the midlands-FTFY.

20th November? I might seriously take the day (and the next) off work, I had a good laugh last time and I should really do the whole London tourist thing before I move. And I need to use up about 20 days of holiday time in the next couple of months :S

Put me down as a 'maybe', especially so if I could maybe possibly perhaps crash at someone's overnight, instead of wandering lost around London at midnight looking for a cheap room, munching cold Whopper.

I may be able to do this, if I manage to get my London friend Jon interested. I'll keep you posted. :)

I very nearly did this. Then I saw CUS mention date so I read Dudley's post again. Then, slightly confused, I noticed the subtitle.
It's the 20th November. :)

I like drinking, but have never tried it on a milk float, abandoned or otherwise.

I would like to pencil my name in, but will have to think about how practical it is.

There is some indication that if we make it the 13th we can secure special guest speaker "Myoptika".

Does this inconvenience?

Also, can someone tell Myoptika :)

Mostly the 13th, we can tie him up and throw him off London bridge if he's the problem.

13th would be as good for me as the 20th. If I'm in the country. Which I think I will be.

Changed this to the 13th. My calender confirms that myoptika should be around on that most famous of weekend days, Thursday.

Typically, me and Shin were going to be in London on the 12th to see 8 out of 10 Cats, but I've cancelled those tickets due to doubt about affordability.

However, if someone can recommend a decent and cheap hotel relatively close to Shunt, and give info as to travel (nearest Tube station, etc. (although it's probably London Bridge, right?)) I can price it up and see what the crack is.

I too would be interested in any hotel recommendations (and parking), so I can weigh up whether car or train would be the best option.
I think I looked last time and coming by train meant I'd have to leave about 11 (how late is it open?) and get home about 3am (assuming I didn't sleep all the way to wherever the train was going :) )

It's certainly London Bridge, the entrance to Shunt is actually inside the station itself.

Shunt I think is open till very late but those needing the tube will tend to be leaving no later than midnight anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about leaving early.

Can't help with lodgings I'm afraid.

Oh, the 13th? Sorry, I can't make it. :)

Edit - Actually that would be quite cool, let me know if you and Gaz find a suitable hotel and I'll do the same.

Not when I've already booked and paid for coach tickets for Friday you can't.

You can go down a day early and be Ange-less if you like but I've got a very important appointment that can't be missed on the Thursday evening. (Ok, I'm going to the hairdressers to get me roots done, but as the ladies of the forum will verify, this is very important as there will be photographs a-plenty being taken at the wedding and I must look fabulous)

Oops I'm still talking.

Hair sorting is a MUST! It's take priority over mostly everything :) (dying mine purple again tonight-wahoo!) I'd also better start growing a beard then :s

Me, Gaz and Joans seem to be hanging out together for this so we don't get lost (translated: I now have 2 people to try and get me back to the hotel! haha)

We shall be arriving early afternoon, as planned by my smarter other-half. But I'll post details on times and stuff when we are fully sorted. Joans! Reply to that PM!

Sadly shunt on the Friday would be twice the price (It's £5 entry in the week) and much much more crowded so that's not really an option :(.

So - LONDON PEOPLE.

Got any tips for a place to kip, that's not too far from Shunt? Which apparently is under London Bridge tube station, SE1.

And for that matter - got any tips for stuff to do in London as a tourist? Besides 'go to museums'. Shunt sounds quite cool! Shunt is not well known! Similarly unknown cool stuff Suggest-Oneself-Commence?

Camden Market, recently reopened after burning down, is always a larf.

And if you haven't been on the Eye yet, go for a ride (and bring your camera, of course)

I'm also partial to a ride on the river.

If you don't have objections to sleeping in a hostel/dormitory, there is a St. Christopher's Village about a 5-10 minute walk away from Shunt that does accommodation for £17 a night, check it out on hotels.com.

It's going to cost me a whole extra £5.50 to buy a single coach ticket for Thursday, but I reckon I can stretch to it. What time do you guys usually meet? I was half-tempted about taking the whole day off and coming down about lunchtime, but there's no point if I'll be sat twiddling my thumbs all afternoon.

Most people are working of course, Curiosity usually reaches our "Staging pub", which is right next door about 6pm I think.

There's a reasonable chance I'll be off work that week so there may be a touristy thing we can do or somesuch.

JBR - Good to hear it sir.

I just wanted to avoid the evening rush hour, really. I can get into London for about 5ish, but I might end up killing people on the tube if it's really busy.

5 is pretty much before the major rush. Plus you'll be mostly going into town. Depending on where you get in though you'll likely find it more attractive to walk from Monument than try to get to London Bridge station itself but this isn't a theory I've tested.

So I'm a maybe.

For the record, Myp, I walk over from Liverpool Street Station at around 5:20 or so, to arrive there at 5:35-5:40 or thereabouts.

We then have a few drinks in the Barrowboy and Banker (until we're all there) and then go and wander into Shunt, to marvel at the wonders inside.

Y'know, I might book the Friday off work in anticipation of the hangover!

Erm. Any room for another in the car? I'm magnificently 'along the way' and stuff. If not, no worries, perhaps instead meet you guys in London for lunch instead? Or not. GazChap can attest that I don't murder on sight, at least.

Hey... are they any good 'Pay £10 to run around and pretend to murder each other with fake weapons' things there? Like y'know, Laser Quest/Quazar but exciting and modern and possibly involving 'jacking' into the 'matrix'? The first ever BETEO Real Life Deathmatch could take place.

After consultations with GazChap, the car idea may be ditched. He was planning on going by train anyway, and after looking at the prices I might too. It'd be easier than having to drive around central London (which isn't fun for us outsiders).

Of course, if there were 4 of us going, and it was logistically possible, it might be better to drive down?
