Anyone tempted by World of Goo?

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09 ... oo-review/

I'm just about to get my pre-order in; if you buy it before it's released on Monday you'll eventually be able to download a "profanity pack" to replace the little goo creatures' shouts and yells with swears. It's being released on Steam but I don't know if you get the profanity pack or not; in any case, if you buy direct you'll be able to activate it on Steam at some point anyway.

Then again, there's always the Wii version:

http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/918/918954p1.html

However I don't think it's coming to the UK until early next year (as a retail release rather than WiiWare) so you'll have a bit of a wait if you're hanging on for it...

Using the mouse to click on stuff seems so backwards and tedious after touch screens and wii pointers, as such I want the Wii version.

But I thought it was coming out this month, not next year.

And I thought it would be about £7 - 10 not a full release.

:(

Still it looks fantastic.

It looks interesting, but I can't help but think of it as a slightly expanded version of Bridge Builder.

Hmmmm.

The USA gets a WiiWare release this month.

Europe gets a Disk release (with an extra chapter) early in 2009.

WiiWare USA release is going to be 1500 points (£10.50).

If the disk release is a £19.99 budget title. Then that works out fair I think. What with being able to sell it, use it on different Wii's and own it and so on.

The demo is pretty aces, but Steam let me play a demo and THEN tells me that because I live in Euro-land I'm not allowed to buy it.

I can, apparently, purchase it direct from their website for $20, but I'm a little annoyed that everyone gets a Steam version and we don't. No auto-patching, no SteamWorks achievements...

If there'd been a proper Steam version available to buy when I finished Chapter 1 I'd have purchased it right there and then. As it stands...I'll think about it.

Don't quote me here. But I think the steam thing is down to their inexperience with publishers the european pubs have done things very differently (hence the disk based wii release).

But I think that if you buy the game from them, you get a code that immedietly unlocks it in steam or something. I'm not sure though. I haven't used a windows machine in years.

You don't. That was only for pre-orders. The only way to get it in Steam is to wait until they deem fit to release it over here. Believe me I checked!

Mounting a Direct download in Steam isn't the same thing. It's just adding a shortcut to Steam's menu.

And I'm a Linux user, but Steam and pretty much everything that works on it works in Linux via WINE.

Maybe someone that's just bought it could help. Did the download link have a code in it (eg. http://www.worldofgoo.com/dl2.php?lk=CODE_GOES_HERE)? If so then it might be worth popping that into Steam to see if it activates, as that's the format my pre-order download link was in and that code was the same as my registration key (which activated my copy on Steam just fine).

So as this is not visible in wiiware, I assume I actually have to buy this in a shop or online or something? If I want to play it on my wii that is.

I was just playing World of Goo, and I quit at what I thought was around 2AM, in order to watch the computer clock go back to 1AM. However, it clocked over to 2:01AM. Turns out it was actually around 3AM in old time, and 2AM in the new time. Crazy stuff!

Less complex version: World of Goo makes time move around and stuff.

Indeed! Are you enjoying MotoGP 08? I realised it's a Capcom game, and they're the only developer who won't send me games until I can prove I get some ridiculous number of visitors to my site. And I'm not buying the fucker. I can get a copy of Fallout 3 but MotoGP 08 is an impossibility.

I'll hopefully be getting FO3, they have said I will be, but that doesn't always mean they will (or so I am learning).

I actually did that review a while back, but I am in London for London games festival atm, and not got much pc access...I'd love to read your opinion on WOG too though.

Very much so, I promised Myoptika a review, which I will get to. I posted a quick note about it in the Friday releases comments.

Coo, thanks mate, Nice review, do you think the Mrs will like it?

That Aero is a happy chap, isn't he. I'm pleased he'll be "totally not buying it" as opposed to only not buying, oh I dunno, half of it.

Thank you as well. Is it too much of a favour to ask for minimum specs for PC version? How does it compare with the Wii?

I'm not sure what the minimum specs are, but it only runs in 800x600 and isn't remotely intense graphically. I imagine it'd run on any PC bought in the last five years. The Wii version isn't out yet, so I dunno :p

I can't really imagine anyone not liking it. I just recommended it to my Mum (the only other games she's played are Portal and Professor Layton).

You can set any resolution you want in the config files. They are adding the GUI for it in a patch. I run at 1440 x 900 with only minor graphical oddities.

It needs about 1Ghz, according to their website.
