Watched the pilot tonight. Not bad.

You suck, I watched ep 3 yesterday.

Like most shows it has wonky, frantic beginnings but has some potential. Whether it lives up to it is another thing. We'll see, I guess, I'll keep watching.

I've seen the first three, it's fucking shite and I probably won't bother watching any more. It's about a hundred times better than Knight Rider 2008 though.

Saw the first episode yesterday. Some of it was good, some was average.

For a so-called genius, the doctor's son seemed to not be that smart.

I was underwhelmed, but I will stick with it. The flashing x-rays (err. . . butterfly, apple, frog I think?) what were they about?

I think that the JJ Abrams link is a bit suspicous - is he involved just to add credibility or are the other two writers well known?

(Any thoughts on Burn Notice and Breaking Bad also recently started?)

Very poor characters, dialogue that swings from terrible to dire, and only redeemable to see how the old man can f*ck with his sons head in each episode.

The Mentalist is slightly better mind. Only slightly

On a different note, has anyone seen Brian Blessed running round with a dog on Living TV, something called Celebrity Underdog (http://www.livingtv.co.uk/shows/underdog/) ?

There really doesn't need to be a point for something like that to sound utterly ace.

His wife has yet to emerge from her special hiding place, though.

Missed ep1, but I'll go get it from somewhere. It looks fucking superb, frankly.

I haven't seen it. I declare it to be rubbish entirely on that basis.

Enjoying Ep2 of Breaking Bad right now 'tis good.

Burn Notice though - that was pretty dire.

Breaking Bad was a little too Road to Damascus for me and had far too many plot contrivances (i.e. echoed Fringe in the excellent policing that allowed a chief suspect to escape from an adjacent building undetected apart from "our hero") in one episode but then that's a pilot for you.

Having said that I really enjoyed it and it will be interesting to see where they take it with the inherent shelf life of the main character.

Burn Notice is surprisingly not bad at all - someone HC works with gave us the pilot - I then went torrent hunting and discovered it's on season 2 in the states. I've watched the first 3 and I quite like it. Plus it has Bruce Campbell in it, which is always good for a laugh.

Other things that are back on which are hewn from raw... etc.,

Dexter season 3 is just better than the previous 2 and that's high praise. Watched ep 2 last night and it's ability to cram a lot into one episode and not be a ridiculous mess like Heroes is something to behold

Heroes 3 is odd - the first two episodes were a mess of too many contrived plot devices, but ep 3 was very good and bought it a stay of execution
Chuck is awesome fun. Like spending an hour with all your best mates.

True Blood is good as well, but is more character led and I'm a couple of eps behind.

Terminator SCC is pretty good as well - what I like most is that it's really nicely scripted - however I can understand that some of the characters could come across as a bit unlikeable, but I'm enjoying it.

I've not seen Fringe, but c'mon, JJ Abrams isn't exactly the last word in plausible is he? I mean, slick, glossy, high production values and entertaining, yes. But credible? Let's examine the evidence...

Been watching the first few eps of Sons of Anarchy this week. It seems alright, it's got the bloke out of Hellboy in it and it's the same writer and producer as the Shield (and even briefly features the same fictional gang, fact fans).

In other notes, Entourage is back to quality gold, The Life And Times Of Tim is worth following, and Californication is still good.

I saw the first episode of that 'Tim' thing while I was in America.

Bloody odd, but pretty funny.

Then perhaps I'll stick with it for a while, really wasn't impressed with the pilot.




Errr. . . Sub par show + JJ Abrams (with his succesful slick, glossy etc etc shows) = bags of added credibility and therefore monies for the hookers and the cokes!

Just watched ep 4 of Heroes 3. It really is stretching love beyond all endurance I think. There's something I can't quite put my finger on but it's like it's a bit too pantomime for me. Too many ridiculous juxtapositions and too many volte face characters - it's like it's trying too hard to second guess your anticipations and prove you wrong all the time and is continually creating ludicrous scenarios for no other reason than to progress the implausible plot. It's failing to keep my interest, to be honest.

Chuck 2.2 was better.

Ach, it's a bit formulaic but it's watchable stuff, of the least demanding variety. It's not on a par with the likes of Dexter, by any stretch.

Props to all the actors who went the distance... They glided across plot holes and genre/trope hops whilst managing to be the first program since TNG to manage to get so much done whilst still somehow being basically the same every bloody week.

Glad I made the effort.

We watched it last night. Walter is best.

Is he your Very Favourite Thing?

If TNG is a yardstick here I think I might be putting your opinion on this in the same basket as Nirjehenhgenghe's film reviews.

We've got the double length finale downloaded and probably due to be watched tonight. I'm looking forward to it with sadness because Fringe has been consistently excellent during it's entire run and is probably one of my favourite shows of the last few years. It's kind of odd to think back over it because it's arguably a completely different beast to how it started out. The first season and a bit was very comparable to early X-Files with it's monster-of-the-week detective show format, and I do still miss that a bit because the opening five minutes setup of each episode was always, always both bizarre and horrifying in the best way. As they let the over-arching plot take control though it's changed almost completely I feel. More than once actually with all the dimension hopping and whatnot allowing them to turn right angles with the whole story almost at will. It's not better or worse though, just good in a different way. And yes, it's not maybe been quite as coherent during these shifts as it could've been but the characters and writing are more than compelling enough to carry it through.

TNG was rubbish. However I really enjoyed Knight Rider 2008.

I lost interest in Fringe about a series back. Is it worth downloading/catching up?

TNG isn't my yardstick. Read the words. It does a similar thing. No comparison of quality given or intended.

There were parts of Fringe that I enjoyed. The last season had very few of those parts and the ending was shite.

Thanks for that. Care to explain why you thought it was shite, seeing as it has been broadly hailed as one of the least worst series endings of recent years?

It ties up all the plot strands, explains who and what everything and everyone is/was, gives each character as much closure as their role demands, brought in threads from across all four series without overdoing them or shoehorning too much in, provided fan service again without shoehorning and nailed the overarching theme of the whole series, which was sacrifice and father/parenthood.

Then there's the very subtle "does Peter know?" at the end.

Cohesive, poetic, heartwarming, simple. Or, you know... shite.

The ending was derived from all five series, wasn't it? Are you just trolling or did you not pick up on half the stuff that was in the finale?

No the ending was derived from the TV channel only giving them half a final season.

I am pleased you enjoyed it. I didn't.

Yes the final episode tied everything together in a nice knot and put a cherry on top but I still found it to be disappointing. Having a different opinion to someone doesn't make you a troll.

That's three posts about it now and you still can't manage to say anything specific, but you have managed to twist a word I used to argue with me and in so doing patronise me about something I already knew. Why bother?

Well your response to me not enjoying the finale was to 1) accuse me of being a troll 2) Suggest I was not bright enough to grasp the ending.

So why bother?

Where did I suggest you weren't bright enough to grasp the ending? I thought you misrepresented it and diminished it by criticising it in an unsubstantiated, dismissive and unhelpful way, sure. I asked you to qualify your opinion, seeing as others are happy to and you hadn't bothered. What I got back was trite and equally unhelpful. If that's not an attempt to annoy, what would be? I've got every reason to call you out on passive-aggressive behaviour like that.

If you're going to be as dismissive as you have been in a thread where people are happily discussing something with a bit of goodwill and care for the ambient level of the chat, be prepared to back up sweeping, baseless opinions. It's only polite. My response to you came from your obvious attempt to respond in as minimal a way as you could, knowing damn well that I'd asked you to expand in a substantive way.

That's why I bother, but rest assured I shan't waste any more time on you in future.
