I could be tempted by one of those Bambu Lab printers, as I'm having absolutely no joy whatsoever getting my second-hand Ender 5 to print anything.

They truly are the Apple of 3d printers. They just work

I have absolutely no need for a 3D printer that I can think of, but I still find myself thinking 'ooooooh, neat, maybe I should get one'. This is of course balanced out by my wanting to get rid of a bunch of plastic tat that seems to accumulate in my house.

Other than decorative trinket-y style things, what functional/useful things have you all printed?

I have printed ----

Under desk cable management stuff, to mount the docking stations and run all the cables.
Coffee portafilter holder so I can tamp the coffee easier.
Storage for the car..
Wall mounts for cycling shoes, for my door bike
Shelves for Lego.
Few desk organisors that fasten to a monitor

plus a lot of tat

I've had some serious trouble with the printer over the last week. I hastily started a print with the wrong filament profile and ended up with an enormous blob that fused the nozzle and hotend heating assembly together.

After replacing both, I couldn't get anything to stick to the build plate. It felt like the z axis was too high. After much fiddling, I decided to scrub the build plate with Isopropyl alcohol and that seems to have done the trick. Who knew ?

Similar here (but not as bad) had my first build failure on the Bambu, due to warping. Washed the plate and bought some adhesive and all seems fine again.

Still having a nightmare with this printer. Can't get past the first layer with basically anything as the filament is blobby and leaky from the nozzle.

My latest theory is wet filament from the recent warm weather, so I've bought a dryer. Expensive hobby, this

I'm not sure what your printer is like but when I had these kind of issues it was fixed by replacing the PTFE guide that goes into the hot end, basically there was too big a pool of melted filament right behind the nozzle.

I've just had a look in all the cavities around the hotend and I'm pretty sure that no filament has sneaked it's way in there

It was a small detail, the PTFE guide was a bit messed up right where it should butt up against the nozzle and that's where a tiny pool of runny plastic would form.

They can be really finicky 3D printers but they're also fairly simple, there's not too much to go wrong but it all needs to be just right.

Mine's a Bambu Labs model and don't think the PTFE tube goes all the way in like that.

I've just given the print bed another good clean, swap to some more reliable filament and ran the first layer at a snail's pace and it seems to be managing to actually print something today

I reckon part of the problem is the printer goes into fucking hyperspeed after the first layer and if there's even the slightest flaw in that initial layer, the nozzel tears the hell out of it

This is what I've ended up with. The filament is feeding directly from the dryer. Bed adhesion is now like a turn to fluffy blanket
