Labour broke the swingometer! Mainly through being quietly boring. Which appeals to me personally.

On watching odd phrasing from Rishi in his electoral concesion speech makes it sound like he'll be spending time with me personally in the weeks, months and years to come.

Hunt mentions Ukraine in his victory speech in a somewhat moving manner removing the ability for me to hate him, the bastard.

Also should it be 'a historic' or 'an historic' because I still think the former.

Yay! Labour in! Nice speech Kier, but -10 points for not taking off with a jetpack into the golden dawn at end of speech.

Bless you Kern and good morning to you. Let's meet up for drinks in the next few weks. Lots to yak about.

This is the first election I've stayed up to until dawn since the 2008 Obama one. Just remember this; bad times happen and good victories are imperfect, but so long are people are fighting for something better, there's hope.

Sir John Curtice looks mildly healthier and perkier even at half five in the morning. Almost as if he drains the life-force from each losing candidate in arcane ritual.

And hurrah for Wales land of me!

I have to go to bed now. Truss proving herself a champion irritant by not having her results announced yet. Anyway, will have a hell of a hangover.

Sian Berry has held Brighton (Caroline Lucas' old seat)

that's 4 MPs, which is the same as Reform at the moment

Labour gain/hold here depending on how you look at things with boundary changes. Scary numbers of Reform voting racist simpletons though.

Same for us here. Labour hold for our postcode, but gain from a summary Conservative count under the new boundary changes. The win was far from decisive here, though.

Labour, Valerie Vaz
Votes 12,514
Share 33.6%
Share change -10.8

Independent, Aftab Nawaz
Votes 7,600
Share 20.4%
Share change +20.4

Reform UK, Elaine Williams
Votes 7,293
Share 19.6%
Share change +18.3

Conservative, Shannon Lloyd
Votes 6,679
Share 18.0%
Share change -31.2

Green, Sadat Hussain
Votes 2,288
Share 6.2%
Share change +4.7

Liberal Democrat, Patrick Stillman
Votes 817
Share 2.2%
Share change -0.7

So the combined Reform and Conservative vote would outweigh the Labour vote significantly. The Independent candidate coming second is an interesting one here. We got a mail shot for this guy which said on the front only these words ‘vote Aftab Nawaz Independent for Palestine’.

On the back there were 20, maybe 30 words which said only said (paraphrasing) ‘Vote Aftab Nawaz to vote for a free Palestine and to demand justice for Palestinians and a free Palestinian state’.

Which obviously, makes the candidate a single issue candidate. But what would have happened if he’d won? It’s far from being beyond the realms of imagination with the current vote split in our constituency. There was no mention of wanting to do anything for the people in the constituency, so I wonder how he’d have handled that job.

Anyway, I hate the new boundary changes and am glad our new right wing neighbours from the merger have at least significantly split the vote.

We are still in a Conservative constituency.
Labour came a close second, but only because of the Deform candidate in third.

Jeremy Hunt’s acceptance speech was good. Honest, gracious, and something to be respected.

Compare that to Steve Baker who just had a hissy fit on BBC breakfast news.

So its nice to have a change , and very nice to not have the Tory's in charge , I'm worried that so many seats would have Labour second if you just add in Con + Reform , and that Reform basically are the 3rd party just on percentage alone (Labour 33.7% / Con 23.7 / Reform 14.3)

On a more positive note I was reading the fun that the Conservative party are now going to have since most of their rules and policies assume there are a large number of MP's and thats no longer the case.

https://bsky.app/profile/garius.bsky.so ... jtf5ggyg22

In case that doesnt link at all - their process says that to be nominated for leadership they need the support of 100 MP's , but they only have 121 :-)
