Started watching the Halo series today while tucked up in bed trying to rid myself of a terrible flu. Enjoying it!

We started on Sweet Tooth (Netflix). It's an interesting take on the post-apocalyptic setting. We're only 3 eps in but I'm keen to see where it goes.



I've made two failed attempts to get into this, I'm really not sure why but it doesn't 'stick' and I never get further than E2 or E3. I haven't played a Halo game since Reach, but I do remember finding the setting and the lore interesting at the time.

I am half way through the 2nd season and I am enjoying it.. I like the take on the character.

Like the actor who plays him too, he was good in American Gods.

I'm a couple of episodes into Shogun on Disney+ and I'm quite enjoying it - very pretty and full of politics and intrigue panning shots of mountains and zen gardens and ninjas. I read the book about 20 years ago, and liked it, but remember very little of it. Cosmo Jarivs, has a made-up sounding name though.

Cosmo Jarvis: he does, but he's incredibly watchable. I rewound the bit where he says "that was very good" over the guns many times. Apparently the accent is what resulted from him aiming for realistic. realising that no one understands English from back then and so on. I love him a little bit.

Somehow passed me by, but a brief reference in a newspaper or magazine recently led me to watch the first couple of episodes of John Wilson's How to with John Wilson (currently on BBC Iplayer).

These are very poetically shot and slightly esoteric rhapsodies on modern New York life., with clever use of footage that might or might not be real (the viewer is uncomfortably left unsure on this).

The first on small talk was engrossing enough to get through and take in his style, but I absolutely loved the second one, on scaffolding! Will definitely be watching more episodes over the next few days.

So far (2 episodes in) Griselda on Netflix is very good.

Oh, these are great! And totally agree on the first two - I don't think I've got much further than that, but it's definitely on my list to carry on.

Hmmm, I have up 3/4ers of the way through ep1.

Seemed a bit cheesy compared to Narcos

After watching the first two episodes Fallout gets a thumbs up from me.

The first one was great. Looking forward to more tonight.

The games never really clicked for me, but the show is great, and the first ten minutes were quite chilling.

Finished it last night and enjoyed it all. Never saw Narcos so can’t really compare it, Malc.

Fallout is awesome. Only watched ep1 but at almost a movie length it look laid a great foundation, please stay this good!

We’ve been discussing whether to watch Fallout, but you’ve all made it sound very watchable, so I think we’ll give it a go.

My only comment for that is that there is quite a lot of blood and its very violent , there is humor in there as well but if you are a little squeamish then it may not work for you.

It is also at times very bleak (it is the aftermath of a nuclear war)

Watched it all in two days. What can I say? well, it needs a game to honour it.

I loved all of the little easter eggs in there too that tie into the games.

I’m less squeamish about violence and people getting their heads looped off than you might imagine. What I am not very good with is things like close ups of the iris of someone’s eye, muscle tissue under a microscope or things being under the surface of someone’s skin. That’s an automatic no from me.

I'm very squeamish. A couple of times I did have to close my eyes lol. I don't think I could have normally watched it unless I had played the games extensively and been dulled by them a bit. How I made it through Hobo with a shotgun will always be a mystery to me.

Having wanting to, but never getting round to actually playing any fallout games, how much will I be missing when watching it?

I've played very little of the games (the modern ones) and thoroughly enjoyed the whole show.

Yeah to be fair they do a very very good job of explaining it all really well. Lots of my friends have never played the games but are really enjoying it.

It’s filled with bits from the game though for folks who have played them.

Oh, this sounds good, we are on the lookout for some new serieseseses for our viewing pleasure. I borrowed Fallout 3 (I think it was) from a friend, on the x360 but it just didn't click with me and I didn't get far into it at all. I do remember John Coffey on here (and a few others) absolutely loved it.

I did struggle at first because I just didn't understand how it all worked. Got a bit anxious in the vault and kinda rushed out without learning about VATs etc. It does take me a long time to pick up new things.

Easily my fave game series ever though. Most notably 3 and NV. Not much of a fan of 4. Good game, but no better than good tbh. London has been delayed now due to Bethesda releasing an update too, oh joy

This TV series to me at least is the best Fallout related thing since Fallout 3. I did like NV, but you can tell it was a bit rushed as many of the buildings were just boarded up with nowhere to explore. I really can't say much more in fear of dropping a crap load of spoilers. But yeah for sure, if you want to see what all of the Fallout fuss was about watch this. It basically sums it up in 6 hours or so rather than needing a 40-50 hour playthrough. The twisted humour has always been my fave, and this series delivers it in bucket loads.

I think Helen might have enjoyed fallout more than I did, at least in some respects, because she wasn't looking for the bits and pieces, just watching for its own spectacle.

I have to say the final episode felt rushed to an end and pressed to set up season 2 (which I'm sure is worse in streaming then it used to be in TV land), but it overall it remained great.

I hope they get at least one more season out of it.

Fallout: not a second wasted. Absolutely brilliant

We've been watching the new, I guess you called call it a 'reimagining', of Walker (the 'Texas Ranger' bit got dropped from the title). It's starring Jared Padalecki (Sam from Supernatural).

It's pretty shit, but not in an offensive way, just a bland way.

- I like Sam Jared, but I was thinking about it, I don't think he can really act well, he seems like the weakest actor in it, and he doesn't carry the show at all.
- He pulls really weird faces when reacting to things.
- The character of Walker is built up as being some tough guy rogue maverick with a big reputation but really actually doesn't do much at all; certainly doesn't come across as a badass and seems kind of ineffective, like a background character in his own damn show.
- I know he's no Chuck Norris, but man the action (such that it is, if there is any) is lame AF.
- I still don't really understand how the Texas Rangers differ from, and fit in with, other law enforcement agencies, although that's more my ignorance than anything else.
- I can't decide whether the big white hats are cool big white hats, or stupid big white hats.
- Skinner from x-files is in it and he seems cool, looks and sounds and plays the part of a gruff old country working dad well, yeehaw
- There's a bar which is like a central location to the show, they're always hanging out there and talking about how great it is and telling us about how important it is, but from what we are actually shown, this place kinda sucks and is boring.

It reminds me a bit of Renegade (with Lorenzo Lamas) except much lamer. I enjoyed Renegade, but I think it's a pretty low bar to compare to, so yeah, Walker isn't really worth watching.

Despite that, we keep plugging away through it. I don't give it my full attention and it doesn't really seem to matter. It's boring but I don't seem to mind.

The new series of The Boys is great.

Also just started S3 of Sweet Tooth - I think this is the final series and will wrap everything up (I hope so).

I'm gonna switch over to watching Banshee after this series of The Boys has finished. It's a show about an ex-con who impersonates the new sheriff in a small town, after the new sheriff gets killed on his first day trying to deal with an argument in a bar.

Antony Starr (Homelander in The Boys) plays the main character, and if his acting is anything like it is as Homelander, then it should be a compelling watch.

Been watching Sprung which only got one season but is a fun little thing about a guy who spent 26 years in jail and then gets let out because of Covid. It's definitely leans a lot into that sort of My Name is Earl redneck humour but the main character is pretty interesting and played by Garret Dillahunt who is always great.

We watched Banshee at the time, it's decent.

Banshee is brilliant. There was nothing else like it at the time, and a very good cast outside of Antony Starr
