And so the voting commences. Feel free to add comments to each of the voting threads, and to place any general discussion on matters Song Wars here.

*Important thing for all players: Don't forget, it's now time to think about submitting your tracks for week two. Select a song that is a cover version, and ping it over to me. Submission deadline: 11.59pm Tuesday 7th October. If at all possible, try to include the name of the artist who performed the original (or best known) version, as that sort of info would be nice to include. *

Cheers. If only I were able to tell you which track were mine. (Oh, and I knocked that logo up in a spare twenty minutes, so I'm going to claim those are paintball pallet splashes, and nothing to do with the fact I couldn't find a suitable Photoshop brush for the job.)

The standard of songs is very high. Given that fact I'll usually dislike most of the songs I hear on (say) Radio 1 in an average workday, the chances of liking more than three songs from a given seven is pretty small. And yet, I'm really having to think which ones deserve my votes. Hurrah for everyone!

Good work Mark and Grim.... What a wide mix, some excellent new stuff to be chased up by me.

After hearing other peoples choices I have at least 10 more songs I would rather have put forward. Hey ho.

There are still nine rounds of voting to go before the knockout stage! As long as 90% of your songs might fit into a given theme, it's a shoe-in. You'll see.

There is always the Marty McFly approach if people don't like a track you've chosen. "You might not be ready for that yet, but trust me. Your kids are going to love it."

Seeing as those who've already PM'ed their week two choices over to me have done so, it'll be handy if everyone can try to mention who performed the original versions of their selected covers. Such information will be a handy thing to include in the voting threads, and it's only likely to tickle the curiosity of potential voters. After all, if a link was posted listing a track as "Slayer - Barbie Girl (Aqua)", I'm willing to bet every single person on this forum would listen to it.

Sadly, I don't think Slayer have recorded a cover version of Barbie Girl. They should, though.

That's probably pretty appropriate for a lot of the music I'd choose.

Is everyone done voting now?

Yep. Especially as the voting is also open for non-combat troops (of the Song Wars), not to mention people who don't get time to listen to all 29(!) songs properly until the weekend, as NervousPete has mentioned.

Again, I don't see why you'd want to. You chose it because it was the best, right?

Good to see that no song has no points which encouraging. The coming weeks will be very interesting.

My song is the best one though.

I was a little bit naughty and gave my song 1 point. Having looked at the scores, I very much doubt it will have any major influence on the overall results.

Fair enough. I gave my song [a|some] point(s) because I thought it was in the top three in the group.

*votes for his own song 3 points every damn time from now on*

So, you guys have got 3 points to share amongst you. Choose wisely, as everyone only has 3 points to share too.

Oh and a reason for being in this when you think your music is bestest is to show everyone else how amazing your music is, of course.

Yeah, i can think of a few good covers, but I don't feel the point of this is to get votes, or show who's taste is best, but to have some fun while finding new music, so I am trying to find a non-obvious cover*. That is why I see no point in voting for my own song. I know I like it, that is why I entered it. I am more interested in finding out if anyone else likes it.

*although, what I consider obvious may not be so to others, so.... :S

Just to make things clear, I didn't give my own song 3 points this week as I found one that was better.

Probably because it uses the same permission settings as for the mafia sub forum, where it is used to stop people sneakily changing stuff they've said to cover up evidence.

Possibly so. I certainly can't find anything in the mods' menu to give people the opportunity to edit their own posts (and I have looked).
