Lovely. Seeing as it's you two: If favourite is shortened in speech to "fave", and in writing, often, to "fav", why do we not often see people shorten David to Dav?

(What I'm really saying is "isn't it nuts to call a fave a fav, and does it drive anyone else a bit mad?" but I don't want to be rude to Kov. Not till we're face to face, anyway, then he can squash me.)

We should probably ask the foremost authority on this subject.

Sorry, I will use Fave, as saying out loud sounds better than Fav :P

Amongst my welsh friends, I'm often called Dav, funnily enough. Scousers tend to call me Davey, which is not shorter than David, so it confuses me

David/Dafydd has a short 'a' in Welsh so I guess Dav makes more sense

I’d rhyme it with Famicom, but I probably pronounce that wrong, too.

Fav (rhy. ‘have’) - ick - on

Fam (family) - ick - om

The Welsh for David is Dewi, pronounced approximately like “dare we” or “deh we”. So Dav makes even less sense

I don’t think I’ve ever said it out loud, but I hear words in my head when I read it and this is how my brain pronounces it every time.

But let’s not get into the whole ‘do you hear your voice narrating every thought that you have?’ discussion again because it absolutely broke my brain that some of you don’t hear you reading aloud all of your thoughts in your voices. I don’t understand how your brains can be so quiet.

At work it's something along the lines of: 'the little picture in the internet window that I click on to get to the thingy'

Oh but that does sound interesting though. Was there a thread for that? Lady T often remarks that she doesn't know how to 'shut her brain-voice off'

Definitely a discussion somewhere. I’m not sure if it was a dedicated thread… let me see if I can find it.

Here you go: https://www.beexcellenttoeachother.com/ ... 64#p871864

Oh, and I fully sympathise with Lady T. I hear my own voice, with all of my pronunciations and quirks of speech with every thought. If I read it’s in my voice. As I’m typing now every word I type is said in my voice in my head. It never stops. If I think ‘I’ll have a cup of coffee’ I hear those exact words in my head in my voice.

Beexers are a weird case for me, as I usually 'read' in my own voice in my head. But for people with distinctive voices (The Yes Chefs are a prime example) their voices tend to take over when I'm reading something they wrote. I can't read anything that JBR writes without hearing his boarding-school polished tones, or read a missive on the joys of road cycling without hearing Mali's broad brummie twang.

Ha! How funny! Now you say it I *can* so that, but only if I make a conciliatory decision to, if that makes sense? I’m not sure it does make sense. Im not sure the way our thoughts work make sense to anyone but ourselves.

The offending lifter has now been replaced. Mrs. W. got a washing machine engineer in to do it and I'm p!eased to say that it wasn't a simple fix. He had to get the machine on its side to unclip the old one so I'm glad I didn't fuck it up by trying brute force. The only downsides were the call-out fee, plus time charged to fix it and the fact that we happened to buy a machine that is not really "user fixable."

All that melted mess is where we previously used epoxy and then Q-Bond to stick the broken part back in. It worked for about three years.

I took our old broken washing machine apart so I could get the drum out and use it for a fire pit.

It was a bit if a bastard to take some of the bits apart, and that was with the careless abandon I had, safe in the knowledge that nothing really mattered as it dein;t need to go back together again, let alone actually work. I should imagine that trying to actually fix one would indeed be tricky.

My Galaxy S9 fell out of my pocket while I was up a ladder and the screen is wrecked.

I've signed up for a new mobile deal and will soon have a Galaxy Flip 3. I was really interested in the folding smart phone thingy, and there was a deal going which included a smart watch and some wireless earphones for free too, so it seemed like a pretty good bundle to me.

What have I bought - some beer from beer52.com.
What don't I have 38 days after ordering, said beer, due to, primarily, Hermes losing the parcel three, yes three, times!
I can only presume they are named after Hermes, messenger of the Gods, as only Gods have a chance of working out where their parcels are!

Bright yellow is now MaliCool! New webs on the way! Went for these as the previous two pairs of Ghosts have been a really good fit, lasted well, and I like the moves that the firm making them has made towards carbon neutrality.

Actually, I think that was my phone's fault, let's try again.
Much better (other than the slightly jaunty angle).

Try Argos. Joans also managed to get on on Amazon, but saw this afterwards, I'm not sure if he cancelled his pre-order though.

This. Along with Amazon deliveries and whatever else needs to be put down as you come in the door.
