Yup.

Bad Credit Kovacs could only get finance for 34.9%
Good Credit Kovacs can get for 3.4%

It just shows how important credit ratings are.

I guess if I shop around I could get better, but I will wait 6 months, so the hard searches drop off.

The best you'd get from any lender with any rating looks like 2.8% which would only be a few quid a month difference.
The hard work has paid off for you there.

That's amazing Kovacs, well done. I had bad credit when I was younger which was a hangover from getting kicked out the house and sofa surfing for ages. It took a long time to get it sorted and even longer to realise it was sorted and I still often get that feeling in my chest when I'm at a cash machine in case the bank swallows my card, or my balance has somehow went into the negative, or if I apply for credit convinced it's going to decline even though I'm in a good financial position now.
You've done amazing to take a bad situation, plan your way out of it, and then execute that plan. You should be really proud of yourself :luv:

Having had bad credit for years, it seems it is is getting better, my bank allowed me to refinance my car. They offered me an APR of 3.4 instead of my existing 34.9. This means I can clear my car finance 2 years earlier and save over £5000 in interest. For the same monthly payments.

I think that is a bit if a yay.

This is amazing news. I'm really pleased for you. :luv:

Yay's are few and far between these days but here's one... I've just been awarded a grant which means I can buy a new camera, lens and a drone for the business. The money is coming from the European Regional Development Fund which is bittersweet I guess.

I was saving money for these anyway so I can now squander that on something else. Brilliant.

Does this mean you have to put the ERDF logo on your website, though? Because they're super-strict about how you do it, if you are.

I used to deal with the ERDF in a former job and yep, they are super strict.

I won't have to put their logo on my website though as the only bit they mention about publicity is this

Quote:
Publicity of ERDF supported projects is a fundamental requirement and applicants will be
expected to comply with any reasonable request of the Project Management Team in relation
to publicity concerning the project.

I'll be happy if they want to take a photo of me with a giant cheque for the paper.

Lucky that they didn't pull funding for UK projects after Brexit.

The NW ERDF team were one of my customers when I was in Gov IT, not that I knew much about their work.

We moved into our new house today. It was exhausting, and inside the house is now chaos, but we are in. And sleeping on the floor, but we rebuilt D’s bed so that’s a start, right?

That's a great achievement on the day you moved in. Sleeping on a mattress on the floor is all part of the adventure. Good luck on getting the rest of it done, and take you're time. You're not going anywhere now. :D

Yay! May boss and HR agreed to a salary review and a pay rise after I stamped my little feet about how an equivalent position (one with slightly less responsibility even) at a similar place was far better paid.

BUT the paperwork and payroll stuff hasn't been done yet so I've not seen any of the extra pay I was promised from the start of this year. The HR dept can take a little bit of time to catch up, and they do backpay if required... But if it doesn't happen at all I shall be very cross indeed.

More good news and this time... another grant!

It's been awarded through the local council because I haven't been able to work as normal during the pandemic. That is good news!

I ordered some paper from Amazon a little while back, and it arrived with the outer box damaged, and the sleeve of some of the individual reams also damaged, with the paper exposed, and slightly disturbed.
Amazon said they would send a courier to pick the box up and send out a new one. They said the courier would contact me in 3-5 days to arrange a time to pick up. Instead they arrived the same day (before I had time to sort out returns label or anything, and obviously couldn't accept it, so they left.

The next day, the replacement box of paper arrived, also damaged, but not quite as bad as the previous box. So I spoke to Amazon again, and they cancelled the order completly and told me the courier would be in touch, blah blah, and I explained what happened to the last courier and was told not to worry, it would all be sorted.

In the meantime I ordered a different brand of paper which arrived fine and intact.

It's been over a week, and I'd not heard from any courier company, and obviously the refund has not been processed, so I spoke to Amazon today. They've now issued the refund, and I don't have to return the damaged boxes of paper!

So I now have 15 reams of paper (5 paid for, and 10 written off by Amazon) 12 of which are perfectly fine to use in a printer, and the other 3 are fine for drawing, freehand writing or whatever (not risking them in the printer as they could cause a jam).

I'm on call over the weekend, but then. .......... 14 DAYS OFF!!!!111.....

This is very difficult to arrange when you're in a team of three, on a three week shift rota, and every third week is 7 day working on call from 7am to 9pm, during which you have to arrange cover by another engineer if you want to take leave.

Even better, three of the days are not out of my leave allowance as one is a bank holiday and two more are rest days to compensate for being on call this weekend.

As my company works for dnata all the big wigs are putting bonuses in line with everyone else's in the group.

So I'll be getting a £750* bonus in autumn when I hit my 20 years service.

I'm hoping it'll be for Amazon or something similar.

It won't last long... earmarked already for a PS5 and a turntable for the garage.

And good work on the book! Is it Aliens as in the movie franchise?
