Thanks. It was all going so well until my last call of the day.

I've had calls in Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire today and stopped for lunch on Saddleworth Moor. Final call is Wilmslow for a till "that won't power on," according to the notes. I got it to power on and then ...... It wasn't a till, it just went to a Windows desktop. Something seriously wrong.

Store manager says the software team were messing with it remotely yesterday. I don't bother to try to call them as the hunt group doesn't find them when they're working from home, so I mail them. They usually call back within 5 mins.... But not today. I call the hardware team to see if they can see the call notes. They can, but the notes are not helpful. So ask what I should do next and hardware suggested replacing the till. This takes about 2-hours altogether and it's nearly 5 oclock so I'm not going to get an early finish on my birthday. Never mind at least it'll be overtime pay.

Maybe wearing shorts, and going for a walk in the woods at dusk wasn't my best ever choice.

I'm feeling it now! The weather forecast has warnings for rain the next three days, so I wanted to get a walk in.

I thought I'd try the King's Gutter and Hen Lake, but the light was fading, the path was covered in mud the consistency of custard, which I could barely tell the depth of.

I ended up walking on a crumbling wall built well over 200 years ago, with trees and all sorts growing out of it.

It was the most stressful and tense I have ever been whilst on a walk.

Later I scared a goose (I think) roosting in the undergrowth less than a meter away, and it in turn scared me right back. The noise it's wings made as it took off was something else!

Then it got too dark to see at all, and the path seemed much harder than usual!

I feel like I've been run over, despite it only being a 9k walk.

How do my arms hurt? I wasn't carrying anything, maybe I was in a car crash? Or fell off that wall, and am slowly dying of hyperthermia whilst lying unconscious in a ditch and this is all a fever dream.

Travel wanker story time! I stayed in an AirBnB on the outskirts of Adelaide (as in, a half-hour train ride from the city). I'd checked buses went from the station to the place.

But then I got there, and realised those buses ran for commuters - one in the morning, and one in the evening. So I had to walk, and it was 10k (later shortened to 6 when I realised I could walk across the 'freeway', but that first time, I trusted the maps). As twilight settled in, and I walked in the dirt by the side of the road, it occurred to me that I was in the middle of nowhere (developing suburbs, so houses then nothing) and this was Australia. Getting dark and who knows what wildlife was around? I ran/walked, with my bag, gradually talking myself into more worry.

(Got to the AirBnB, and the lovely people wondered why I hadn't rung for a lift, and served me dinner, telling me all about their pigeon club and experience of being 10-pound Poms.)

tldr: I know that feeling. It's not good. Almost worth it for the relief when you get to safety, though?!

I woke up some time ago? did you ppinch yourself at 08:30 when my alarm went off?

I felt like a bus or lorry crashed into me this morning. My knee was not happy with me!

Feeling a bit better now though. I am putting it down to being far more stressed than I realised at the time.

I was really stupid, and put myself in a very silly situation, and all just to get a few more steps in. FFS
