Demon’s Souls is easily, for me at least, the best launch title ever made. It’s so utterly incomprehensible for hours but then things start falling into place, equipment burden, item burden, what rocks are needed for what upgrades, who sells what rocks, who’s got the healing grass, what the fuck is world tendency and so on. It’s the exact same game as the PS3 mechanically but it’s so different from the Dark Souls staples that came that you have to learn it all over again.

Oh it’s so difficult and punishing and it really fucking is. Each level has a single checkpoint and some of these areas are bloody massive. It took me a solid hour to do the first level and I didn’t die once. And lord knows how much I spent rinsing level 2-2’s giant map and I died a lot. But then you figure out the kinks and suddenly you’re chopping heads and rushing past those sections you think you can safely do so.

And the age old Dark Souls technique of running through chunks of the level will just get you absolutely fucking wrecked on occasion. It can work, but, man, do you have to be careful.

It helps a great deal that this look the fucking bizness. The sound effects are great and the haptic feedback is nice and complimentary.

And I played this reasonably soon after it came out on the PS3 over here and I had ZERO fucking online action. Nothing at all. Now I can play coop with my mate, invade worlds finally and do some friendly cooperation. It’s the complete version of the game finally.

I’ve only been disappointed on one occasion at the minute: Flamelurkers boss level is one of those fantasy forge wankfest that seem trite by now. Just lava pouring all over the place. Running through the floor and lighting up the church which now has this wanky dragon skull decoration. The original was a quiet cave filled with dragon bones in front of a church lit by candles. It’s lost a bit of the mystique. It’s still an alright fight and the flame effects are generally just fucking stunning. There’s some areas where I don’t know how many shades of red reflecting lava were on screen but I’m thinking it had at least all of them. The flames are wicked too as those twatty fire lizards set fire to wooden structures they pass near which spreads up the wall and they even light up corpses on the floor.

Oh and the atmosphere is brilliant. That second world, had my balls in a vice it did during the tunnel section below the mine. All of its been terrific.

Best launch game ever.

I'm sure there's plenty of scope for opinions, but Mario 64 was a mega launch game... It blew me away

I tell you this about the PS5 (vs the XSX). Man alive the disc drive is loud as fuck and every time you turn it on with a disc in the drive it spins the disc for a while and makes a racquet. It’s probably louder or softer depending on the surface you’ve got it resting on but I had to swap my PS5 & Xbox positions cause it was doing my tits in. The ostentatious look of the PS5 is nice but I prefer the understated aesthetics of the Xbox. I’d prefer if neither were ‘on show’ in the living room so having just a black box sitting quietly out the way does it for me. And the Xbox unboxing experience felt special whereas the PS5 was just a shit box with the stuff in there.

But for everything else that matters, the PS5 games & controller blow the Xbox out the water right now. It feels next gen, exclusive and something that you can’t have, say, by paying through the nose for a PC rig.

Seems like there’s a disc spinning bug or something unexplained going on here.

Well, this is pure speculation, but it seems moderately reasonable to assume that on day one existing PS4 games would look as good on the PS5 as they look on the PS4 Pro, would have better/more stable framerates, and have drastically shortened load times.

Hey I fucking nailed this

I…kind of feel bad for those who backed Star Citizen.

I got a little citizenship card to put in my wallet! By the time the game comes out it may belong to my son, but there we are.

I played it on the 3DS a while back and I could see how someone would lose hours on it... Not as many as Simon here, but still. It was quite good and seemed rather deep.

Many games that i have racked up hours in are hours spent at the main menu, or idling in safe spaces.

Certainly a fair chunk of souls-game-time was waiting at bonfires.

2500 hours though?

I spent a lot of time on the Souls games but the most I got to was 125 I think.

I wondered that too, but wasn't sure if Monster Hunter had reasons to leave the game running. Out of curiosity, I checked my Animal Crossing game stats and that's at 2,385 hours, but most of that time I'm nowhere near the console.

175 hours on Dark Souls 3 for me. I only clocked it twice but I’ve done all the DLC and spent a significant amount of time doing invasions and PvPing.

Here’s a thing, y’know when you get a trophy now it records a still and a video? Just watching one back and it seems to record your noises from the speaker on your pad. I think. Definitely sounded like I was coughing and I think I can hear me clicking the triggers. It’s low but I suppose it’d be kinda cool if you had a funny reaction to something and you’ve captured it.

Demon’s Souls virtually clocked with all the bosses dead except the very last ‘boss’. Man, some of these bosses were an utter piece of piss for a Souls game. Every boss in worlds 3-5 were deadid on the first or second attempt; usually the first. The only bosses that were a pain in the dick were the world 2 bosses: spider, flamelurker and the dragon god.

I’ve done all the white world tendency events on each world and now it’s onto the black tendency events. This involves killing yourself while in human form 7 times so it’s either eat the limited supply of items that turn you human OR, and this is my favoured approach, do a bunch of invasions and ruin people’s day to become human and suicide. Rinse and repeat.

After that it’s onto white character tendency (doing the black world events will get me there) for a ring and then it’s onto the end game NPC genocide to get black character tendency and the last item.

I’ve absolutely loved (and rinsed) this game. Utterly amazing. Beautiful. Fun. 100 out of muthafucking 10. I’m going to get depressed when this is finished.

I've just seen this link to get a camera adaptor so you can use your VR headset on the PS5.

Don't know if it will of any use to anyone?

I played some Destruction Allstars and it was ... alright. It’s a car arena smash em up but even with 8v8 it seemed really empty at times and there was no one to ram or run over. There’s little in the way of moment to moment action so I got a bit bored. I think it would have benefited from just a normal racing circuit even if that was just one mode. Graphics are nice, mind, I just doubt I’ll play it ever again.

I used it, apprehensively, and it was a surprisingly easy and rapid process. Got my adaptor in around a week.

No PS5, mind. One day. Maybe.
