I'm not sure. All we have to go on is on the website where it shows the GPS location in lieu of the signature. There's no photos but I imagine if they exist, would be on the drivers phone. How ebay are going to see those to investigate the case fully is beyond me?

And that's my point. Hermes have said "This is our policy in times of pandemic" and eBay have said "we are fine with this policy"

And now they're screwing you as a result.

Now if the buyer says “that’s not my house” it’s easy to prove in real life, but do eBay or the courier firm verify that?

I think that’s DPD. Certainly DPD have asked for photos, but Hermes haven’t. Hermes (and Yodel) will also not bring anything to our flat but have started dumping everything in the stairwell or in the street.

Here's an interesting one... I sold an item via eBay and sent it via their packlink service which uses Hermes as the carrier. The item says it's been delivered and signed for at the household but because of the pandemic, there isn't a signature on record. There is a verified GPS location instead though and it looks like it's the street in question so all should be good.

However.. The buyer is insisting that it hasn't turned up and has opened a case against me.

Despite having all the tracking details on hand, eBay have put the case on hold until October the 1st as they "need to get more information from the buyer on the condition of the item". You'd think that the fact it's been delivered would be enough wouldn't you but no. I shall wait and see what they say and look forward to no doubt having to give her a refund.

In a surprising twist of events, ebay have sided with me and not given the buyer her money back!

2020 just keeps on throwing these curve balls doesn't it? I just don't know what to believe anymore.

Just missed a parcel from DPD and they've pushed a blank card through the door with no details on it. So I have no idea where my parcel is. Thanks DPD!

DPD are usually really good at emailing you about what they've done

Had something similar happen again. Had three orders from the same person from Saudi Arabia in July. The first two have only just arrived and I'd already refunded the payments for them all. Fortunately the customer has been very honest and got in touch to arrange repayment. Just need the third one to arrive now.

Delivery driver today decided that my parcel wasn’t going to fit in the letter box, so opened it up and took it out of the box it was packaged in, posted it through the letter box, then flattened the packaging and posted that through afterwards.

Plot twist one: it still didn’t fit, so they had to squash it some more to post it in the letter box.

Plot twist two: we were home! All they had to do was ring the doorbell.

(I’m actually really upset).

I can see their thought processes, where they wanted to make sure you got your item, but that was badly misjudged.

I disagree somewhat, because I f they merely wanted to make sure I got my item they would have rung the doorbell, and I would have answered the door, and they could have given me it.

I went onto the online chat last night, and they weren’t interested in the slightest. I think a lot of couriers, online stores and services have long since taken the ‘you need us more than we need you’ line of customer relations.

It did bother me because it was something personal specifically for Darwin, and I might not want complete strangers knowing the contents. I also get medical things delivered, but there are so many other things people could have ordered: personal documents, testing kits, sexual things, private photos, etc; so many things that you might not want a delivery person to either look at or handle.

Was it Hermes?

Considering I must have a dozen parcels a week delivered, I've never had this happen to me and I'd be horrified if it did, even though 99% of the stuff I have delivered is just gaming related.

Only if it’s Royal Mail, I’d assume. It’s the Queen’s post or some bullshit

I did some reading about the postal offenses act and it's mostly around opening someone else's mail when it's misdelivered to you, or intentionally preventing mail or parcels being delivered.

Legislation around private firms is less clear and seems to basically let them get away with anything they want.

It was Amazon. Amazingly they would only offer a sorry, not even a free month of Prime or anything, so they're firmly in the 'not giving a fig' category

But I didn’t want any’thing’, I just wanted some assurances that either it wouldn’t happen again or that person wouldn’t deliver to my place again, because it just breaks all boundaries of trust and safety, but no.

They do have a driver feedback thing, but it’s just pre-defined feedback (wasn’t on time, wasn’t wearing a mask, etc) and none of those things applied, and there’s no field to add your own details.

I have a positive(ish) Royal Mail story to share.

The postman knocked on our door the other day to say his trolley had crashed into my car, leaving a deep red gash down the side of the car.

He was v apologetic, and I didn't feel at all aggrieved at him. These things happen.

Got a couple of quotes from panelworks garages, filed the claim online with Royal Mail and within 3 days I'd received a cheque for the full amount of the work.

Which I think is pretty excellent service. Had foreseen the situation rattling on for weeks.

How odd. How can you tell what address it’s been delivered to? Is the postcode similar to yours in any way?

Not a moan as such but something interesting.

I dropped a parcel off last night at one of these free standing locker type things. Although, the door that opened already had a parcel in it. Being the honest guy I am, I didn't nick it but I could have done.

A small moan from me instead: sent a parcel via ParcelForce - it got a signature but wasn't received by the intended recipient. I opened a claim for the parcel and yesterday got an email from ParcelForce saying 'Good news! We found your parcel' which just presented me the same signature back to me as evidence that it was found and they closed the claim. Thanks, ParcelForce

I sent my A1200 mainboard to the recapper on Friday, via Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm (next working day)

It's still not even gone out for delivery, let alone be delivered.

Will definitely be asking for a refund on that.

Depends when you took it to the post office on Friday. Saturdays don’t count unless you paid for Special Delivery Saturday Guaranteed. If it was late Friday then “next day” would actually be today.

I'd have thought that if it hasn't even gone out for delivery yet, it's unlikely it'll be delivered by 4pm today.

I told you Gaz, you should have recapped it yourself.

Could do. They might have a driver purely to do specials in the afternoon after their normal delivery. Depends if it’s at the DO or not.

It was collected on Friday morning (using the spangly new 72p collection service) - I didn't expect it to be delivered on Saturday, but I figured Monday would be a shoo-in.

The track and trace system is still showing it as last updated at 8pm on Friday, with "Your item is due to leave North West Midlands MC to go to Royal Mail site. More information will be available as it travels through our network."

Oh right, still at the mail centre. Yeah that’s gone somewhat wrong.

I’d say with the new collection service it won’t arrive back at the DO until the end of the postman’s round on Friday, then as it’s not an SG it probably won’t get processed until Monday. Then it has to get to its destination. I’m not sure what the SLA is on those.

The post around here is really, really slow at the moment due to absences. Things are arriving about 8-10 days after being first class. I know that’s not the same as next day delivery, but things are moving very slowly.

A1200 is still stuck at the North West Midlands MC so now I’ve filed a claim for a lost parcel as advised by RM.

Fuck sake.

//edit: just re-checked tracking and literally an hour ago it updated to say it’s now at “Sheffield MC” instead of “North West Midlands MC”

So, progress- although why it’s heading north when it’s to be delivered to Kent, who knows.

I meant to ask you on Tuesday if you'd had it back.. I'm kind of glad I didn't now!
