I think enough people have had hands on with it that it's not looking like it's going to be shite or anything. Well excited. Just hope my somewhat marginal for VR graphics card can cope.

I see this has got some good reviews. It's installed, perhaps one day I'll even get to play it.

It's on my list of things to get, but I'd rather upgrade stuff before doing so.

Gnnngh... I'd love a go on this. This could tip me over the edge of VR but I'm thinking the price may still put me off.

I haven’t tried, sorry. I’m in a space about 2.2m by 1.9m and that’s ok. I occasionally have to re-orient myself to make sure I don’t throw my arm through my monitor, is all.

I’ve got some strong FOMO with this one. I’d be inclined to get one of those Quest things without the wires but I understand you’ve still got to hook it up to a PC and I don’t know if my PC could manage.

It really couldn’t. You need 16GB RAM and a GTX 970 gfx card minimum.

I'v been playing it just stood on the spot and not broken anything yet, you can also play it seated, there's the option to map a control for crouch.

Or buy a new PC, Valve Index and in the process become a superior gamer

What would that plus VR kit run in at? £4300?

~£1k for the PC, £500 for the Quest, £46 for the game.

From what I have seen you don't even need a 1k machine. It's very frugal, like most Half Life games. Well, especially on the Rift which doesn't have the biggest resolution of VR headsets. Apparently the mixed reality ones work fine too, though we have not seen the big discounts on those that the U.S has seen. They are frequently available for around $200, but sadly not here in the U.K.

https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri this website says I can run it but little do they know that I don't own any VR kit. Egg on their face!

Holy shit, where have you been buying PCs?

I mean you can buy PCs that expensive, but it’s utterly pointless and a huge waste of money.

I guess if you’re mega rich it doesn’t matter though.

It's not pointless. Waste of money? of course, I couldn't agree more.

I got my Lenovo for about £100 last year.

Probably before Valve announced HL Alyx :DD

As soon as they did that they all shot back up to RRP.

Leave the man alone. Telling someone how they should or shouldn’t be spending their money is a dick move and you’re just being a twat for the sake of it.

I'd have bought it, but I'd rather not play it with the original vive controllers. While they do tracking well, they do everything else poorly.

I've only played the first couple of hours and loved every second but I've just not been back to it yet. It's because right now I can't seem to lose myself in anything and I don't want to "waste" it by just playing through it, distracted. :S

I think that's wise. I'm rationing it, myself, simply because I don't want to finish it too soon...

I am also doing the same. Played an hour yesterday, will try to restrict myself to the same today. I’m not getting very far because I’m exploring every single corner and throwing stuff around for the hell of it.

VR makes even run of the mill enemies like barnacles that I’ve encountered in HL games for 22 years scary.

Completed.

Absolutely phenomenal game. From almost nowhere, Valve demonstrating they can still lead the industry at crafting immersive single-player story-led games.
