Hello,

I’ve been working through this at odd moments today. There’s a prize draw at the end, but it’s fun/a distraction even if you don’t want to enter:

It could do with a bit of fuzzy logic on the answers. I should be allowed to miss "The" from the title of a book (even though my A-Level-English-Literature-student-self knows it can have a major impact on meaning.)

The stupid thing Is that it does have that - because if you miss off 'The' it says 'Nearly!'

I read loads and I only got 2. And I had to google those two for the exact titles because apparently I couldn't get the words exactly right (I also missed off 'The')

I got two

The wind in the willows and good omens. It occurred to me afterwards that I had no idea what the plot of the former was, just that it had a toad that had a hall and a car.

Have you never read nor even seen The Wind In The Willows? Back in the 80s there was a wonderful stop-motion animation by, I think, Cosgrove Hall, with a wonderful theme sung by Ralph McTell (‘do Streets Of London!’), where Toad was voiced by David Jason. Loads of other great actors voicing characters, too. It’s definitely stand up to watching today. It was joyous.

I don't remember reading it as a kid, but in my early 20s I found a beautifully-illustrated version on my parents' bookshelves and was captivated by it. It's just such a lovely evocation of the Edwardian era, and the characters are all very memorable. "Wayfarers all" is my favourite tale.

(You can read it as an attack on the twin evils of new money and radical politics disrupting the harmony of the established natural order, but that's an argument for the pub)

I got the Tiger who came to tea! Good book that... I've read it several times to my girls. I also got the Wind in the Willows. We saw that at a theatre in Birmingham the other year and it was brilliant.

There was one more in the quiz which I thought was obvious.....

The Old Curiosity Shop, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit and The Alchemist
were quite simple ones, also. With some of them the author’s name is written into the clue.

Clearly I don't read enough books, as I haven't heard of any of those four "obvious" ones.

Those are the two I got.

Don't know how I missed Good Omens - as soon as I read that I knew where it should be

I tried about eight different variations on the tiger that came to tea, and none of them were apparently even close, so I gave up.
