The Internet said this was the best game of 2015 but it strangely appears to have found no love on BeeX at all. I'm not complaining, I hadn't played it either, but now I'm playing it I'm thoroughly falling in love with it.

It's not exactly Monkey Island funny, I suppose, but it's about there if anything. Lots of jolly good characters, silly puzzles (that aren't really puzzles), and some of the most heart warming funny dialogue I've had the pleasure to come across in years. When Jerry shows up for a fight about 40 minutes in, I was laughing my ass off. Bloody Jerry. Just great.

Im struggling to think of a reason anyone wouldn't want to play it. Boys and girls alike will love it I reckon and I'm only 90 odd minutes in.

EDIT: tell a lie, I'm 159 minutes in.

I have this. Played about 30 mins and could tell it was great. But don't really game on my mac, so never had time to be in the same room as it. Especially as I kinda feel a 3DS/Vita port is a) the true way to play it and b) inevitable.

Then Xcom 2 happened.

It's on my list and I'll definitely get to it at some point given ask the chat I've heard about out. One thing that's slightly putting me off is watching someone playing some late game comment on YouTube and it was brutally, brutally difficult. Although, apparently this was some second play through our something? I dunno.

While I'm not sure I quite understand *all* of the praise it seems to get, it's definitely worth playing through. If somewhat saggy in the middle. Although given I (sort of) played through it twice and it only took... <glances at Steam> 11 hours, that's not even that much to worry about. Even with that reservation it's definitely got a level of charm though and the music is mostly excellent.

Oh, and the really difficult boss battles that I can think of aren't that much to worry about. One is in response to a second playthrough (as stated) in a certain way and the other isn't really anything to worry about. Mostly.

I've finished this but I'm not finished with this.

It's not the greatest game in the world (that's The Last Ninja) but it's a pretty bloody excellent awesome one. It's witty, well written, sincere, joyous, heartbreaking, and other, erm, good positive words.

Not only that, whilst the graphics are going for that 8-bit but not really 8-bit style they are filled with personality. And at least it ain't pixel-art, aye? Hmmm? Aye? You know what I'm saying.

And you'll be surprised too. Surprised that one fella did the whole lot including but not limited to the fabulous music. God that music is spot on. Spot. On. Sometimes it hardens back to the 8-bit era. Sometimes it's just good music wafting into your ear holes.

Is it an RPG? Is it a walking simulator? Is it a puzzle game? Is it a bullet hell game? SHUT YOUR FILTHY MOUTH. It's an entirely new type of game. A truly excellent game, cause we ain't had one of those since Shadow of the Collosus.

And what do you do when you've completed it? COMPLETE IT AGAIN MORON. Not only is the writing wonderful but repeated playthroughs have all new text, dialogue and you can play the game differently than how you did finish it with SURPRISING RESULTS. Unless you read about them online or watch them on YouTube. Ok, I've done the YouTube thing just because this game is so fascinating to me. One guy made all this, y'know. In fact the 2nd playthroughs almost throws you into new situations that you can't even get on a single playthrough. Crazy right? And I'll be the first to admit that that is an interesting choice because your game will have to be so interesting to even get anyone to bother. But it succeeds. I want to play again, I want to digest knowledge on it and it's secrets and I'll happily watch YouTube videos of characters in the game just having different conversations because they're so bloody awesome.

But the strangest thing about the game?

This game makes you want to make friends with people.

Weird, right? It's like a Studio Ghibli film because it has that sincere childish innocence about it and the characters that makes you think that the world can be a better place if we just love one another. And for someone like me, that's a big deal. People are weird, right? And scumbags.

Anyway, why in fucks name are you playing games that aren't this game. Play this game. Play it now and then say, yes, Ian, you were right about Undertale it was excellent. But then moan about some small detail because that's what people do. People suck.

Undertale is ace. Play Undertale. Are you playing Undertale yet?

Mine too. As I mentioned before I watched someone play like the last boss fight on some second super-hard difficult play through and I'm really curious to see how what I saw there becomes this amazing thing that people are so obsessed about, because it didn't look like much. Note that I'm not doubting it's quality, I'm genuinely looking forward to having a bridge built between what I've seen there and what the game becomes if you play it yourself from the beginning.

Man alive, you have to play the game through, like, for a third time in a particular fashion to get that boss. Also, the bullet time things aren't nothing to worry about. You get hit loads, you have a shit ton of food to top you back up, plus, that hard boss is, if it hasn't become clear by now given how many playthroughs you need to get there, not representative of your typical experience.

Never going to happen. Bizarrely however it might find its way onto the WiiU apparently. Don't delay! Play it today!

I picked this up today and am thoroughly looking forward to getting in about it over the weekend. I've tried not to find much out about it because I don't want to end up in a situation where my expectations are too high for the actual game to compete with. Anyway, in an attempt to render this post even vaguely constructive, it's currently on sale for £3.99 on the Humble store so if you're thinking about picking it up, don't just habitually buy it from Steam like I nearly did this morning.

The console RPG aesthetic prevented me to give this a look (yes, i'm that shallow). Maybe I should give it a go after all. Besides the writing, this is mechanically a JRPG right?

Not really. Well, a tiny bit in the loosest possible sense. don't let the graphics put you off, you stay for the writing and characters.

So I'm a good chunk of the way through this now, up to the spider boss if that helps people calibrate my progression. I'm enjoying it in that it's batshit crazy enough you're always compelled to find out what's round the next corner and certainly it's funny/touching in a lot of places so that's all good. If I'm honest though, overall it's not gripping me as much as I'd hoped. I can't really put my finger on what's 'missing' for me but I'm definitely not sucked into it as much as I was, say, the Assassin's Creed game I've just finished. I'm a little bit annoyed that what would otherwise be a full on pacifist run was ruined early doors because, to my mind, there's no way to realise how to go about
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
not killing Toriel
. I'll wait until I finish it to make up my mind fully of course but at the moment while it's certainly a good game, it's not quite a great game. I'm also reserving judgement over whether to do a second pacifist playthrough because I suspect much of the charm of it will be worn off by repetition (unless it genuinely changes massively which I'm not getting the impression it does). I'm absolutely not doing a genocide playthrough because fuck that noise.

My thoughts came out of your fingers, there. The music deserves a shout too.

Isn't it the first level and then you pay for the rest?

So... Yeah, like a demo actually!
