Anybody else getting this? I'm deeply impressed with this - it has some fantastic characters. It might be a bit sexed up to watch with my 14 year old daughter like I did - and now she's hooked on it. Anyway, if you don't know anything about it, it's set in the present day, in the deep South. With the invention of Tru Blood (sic) a synthetic blood, Vampires are out in society as they no longer need to feed on humans. Sookie plays a barmaid with a difference - she can hear people's thoughts.

It's written by Alan Ball of Six Feet Under.

3rd episode airs tonight.

According to the Daily Mail, these days all teenage girls are daisy chaining with half the school football team and gobbling furlongs of Yardie cock, so I wouldn't worry too much about a little sexy sexy on the telly box. ;)

This sounds an interesting show - is it available anywhere online that isn't a Torrent?

Also - this thread reminds me - I need to finish watching American Gothic. I hope Caleb dies.

It sounds appalling, but I suspect that may be down to DBs sales pitch.

Also - set in the deep South. Plymouth?

My book I'm reading has them in it, brilliant!

Now that I don't know. I got it, like most of my merkin TV from piratebay

Heroes 3 tonight I think, though if they do anything EVEN REMOTELY similar to series 2 I won't be watching beyond the first episode.
Then next week we have Chuck (YAY) and Dexter starting.

I love the autumn.

If it's Laura Hamilton I'm banning you right now. 90% of programmes with vampires in are terrible.

EDIT - At Shin.

Yup, it is definitely worth a look. It's more character led than story driven. I got half way through the first episode before I realised that the lead character Sookie is played by an all growed up Anna Paquin.

and that would be Orleans, bwoy.

Don't people who use Pirate Bay get sued for thousands of dollars by the MPAA?

Re: Heroes - I gave up after episode three or four of series two. It was bad. Really disappointingly bad, after the aceness of series one.

Nope - it's only a torrent hosting site, and you don't have to register and it's based in Scandinavia (I think) which doesn't recognise American copyright laws.

In fairness, the first series took a while to get going, but doing exactly the bloody same with the second series was fucking stupid. The guy who created apologised for getting it so spectacularly wrong.

You should get Chuck if you haven't seen it. Very funny.

Dexter is awesome as well.

I thought Heroes S2 was much better than S1, to be honest - except the emo twins. Was annoyed by the ending, because

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Sylar is rubbish.

Dexter is brilliant.

I still don't like it. They only person I find vaguely likeable is the chef, everyone else is just fucking annoying. Especially Bill. You're a dullard, man! Be interesting, and a bit less fucking emo!

Still watching it mind, 'cos it's got titties in it.

I've been enjoying True Blood on FX very much, despite it having vampires in it.

Thing is, not liking any of the characters is a good thing. It means you're never averse to the idea of Bad Things™ happening to them all.

Bill is incredibly dull, aye. Miss Malabar fancies him for some reason, but she seems to have an appalling taste in men.

No it isn't.

Will the vampires be killed by the locals? Don't give a fuck.
Will <female character X> get it on with <male character Y>? Don't give a fuck.
Will X happen? Will Y happen? Don't give a fuck.

Don't care what happens to any of them whatsoever. See also BSG.

Y'see, I think it's awesomesauce and that the characters are the best thing about it.

Sookie is awesomeness on a stick
Tara is funny
Lafayette is a legend
The two cops are great
Bill is very subtle for the most part and does a good job of coming across as very conflicted
Jason (who was in Home & Away!!!) is a complete idiot, but in a funny way. Him in the last episode when he'd [spoiler] was excellent
Bar owner fella is intriguing, and very much not what he seems

It's my favourite drama on telly at the moment, and runs my favourite thing (The Office) very, very close for 1st overall.

Sookie is awesomeness on a stick - No, she's a little bit attractive, and looks like jailbait. She's an annoying little arse.
Tara is funny - yeah, OK
Lafayette is a legend - Agreed
The two cops are great - Barely seen them so far.
Bill is very subtle for the most part and does a good job of coming across as very conflicted - Crap. He comes across as a moaning dullard whose entire acting prep was "Sullen Gravitas 101".

I'm loving the show and am up to date with Season 2 now but I have to say that Sookie's character is massively unenjoyable, not particularly believable and the actress more often than not looks like Kerry Katona.

A lot of the vamp stuff is also fairly dreary. Bill Compton is particularly uninteresting.

That said, Eric is making the vamps a bit more interesting nowadays.

The supporting characters however are super ace. Jason is comedy gold. Lafayette is true awesomeness also. I love the small hick town feel, even if the show does occasionally lapse into Buffy/Angel territory.

Can't wait for the next ep.

For the purposes of this thread, can we have it so that things beyond where we're up to on FX are not mentioned?

I think we're about five episodes in.

She's a lot attractive, and comes across as quite strong to me. Plus I love her accent.
Tara is funny - yeah, OK
Lafayette is a legend - Agreed
The two cops are great - Barely seen them so far.
They're not in it much, but they're funny. The 'detective' always trying to be serious but mostly being a bit rubbish is cool
Bill is very subtle for the most part and does a good job of coming across as very conflicted - Crap. He comes across as a moaning dullard whose entire acting prep was "Sullen Gravitas 101".
I disagree. I think he comes across very well. He seems a decent sort, but equally hosts vampire orgies. His intentions towards Sookie seem honourable, but equally he's never shy of stating that he is different, and being dangerous. I loved how he acts very differently in different situations. He can be humble and gentlemanly at the meeting thingy, but in the vampire abr he was very different and visibly more 'at home', despite no longer being the dangerous one. Amongst humans he's someone different and important, amongst vampires he's by far not the strongest, and I like the duality of his role.
Jason (who was in Home & Away!!!) is a complete idiot, but in a funny way. Him in the last episode when he'd [spoiler] was excellent - Yeah, OK.
Bar owner fella is intriguing, and very much not what he seems - Meh. Dull whiner.
Ah come on, he's clearly not what he seems to be

Sookie is pretty in some scenes, but not in others. I can't make my mind up. I don't like her gappy teeth though.

I'm pretty sure it's still for faggots. Unless Bill and Suki both get brutally slaughtered in the next few episodes.

See, I agree with Craster's opinion of the characters for the most part (although I like Sookie a bit more than he does), and I find the soap-operage deeply irritating but I still think the series is great. Maybe my standards are lower.

Also: Eric is the King Of Awesomeness. He's rocked the free world in the last couple of episodes (on Merkin TV).
