So apparently at some point in the next few hours (about 5 or 6AM I think) there's a party in Japan to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear, and it's rumoured that there'll be a "huge" announcement.

Guess we'll find out in the morning!

And a new game Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

What a shit name.

ALSO Kojima was on stage signing an undertaking at gunpoint held by a solider with a giant exclamation mark taped to his head that he'd never do a cut scene again! Yay!

No, hang on, what apparently happened was some footage that was shown where cut scenes were done in REAL TIME! Wow. Now that's progression.

I haven't seen the video so if anyone has a link.

Perhaps your mission is to get hold of WWII Japanese Aircraft made by Mitsubishi and get them all into a large mill.

It's going to be a romantic comedy that takes a savage turn when the main protagonist, after speaking to his friend, turns a corner and is brutally murdered by a man jumping from a box of oranges. That's the only direction it can go in, now, to remain credible.

I've never understood why Japanese developers don't hire just 1 native English speaking guy. Just one. His entire job would be to go "Hold up! That title is nonsensical bollocks! Try calling it XXXXXXXXXXXX when you release it in the English speaking world!".

An MGS film? How will that be different from the games?

Makes sense in the book, not so much in the film.

The film begins. An orchestra begins to play:A man enters the cinema at about 11am on a Sunday. The audience can tell by both the subtitles and the large calendar/clock on the wall. It's an IMAX, and quiet. His pockets chink with pieces of silver. It is £18 in 20p pieces, shown in retrospect being counted out. Everything today is about games, the diary ntry shown on a small tablet descrines this in a voiced over diary entry. He will become victorious. he settles down in the obviously comfortable seat with slightly too little legroom, and turns his cellphone off, as instructed, and sits attentively watching the adverts and instructions on how to be a good citizen. It's OK, if you see lots of them, it's probably a book.

Surely it should be "Grounds Zero"?

So about the new Metal Gear Solid game, Jonny!

Yes, it's apparently open world and running on Konami's (apparently awesome) new Fox Engine.

Image

There's very little to go on at the minute because it's all embargoed, but people seem to think that it'll come out on current-gen machines (PS3 AND 360). There are some detailed impressions of the demonstration from *spit* Gamespot here:

http://asia.gamespot.com/metal-gear-sol ... s-6393924/

Quote:
The scene starts in a remote military base with heavy rain. The camera is following a shadowy figure in a business suit and hat accompanied by a number of well-armed soldiers and guard dogs as he converses with a little boy in a cage. He throws a portable music player after some dialogue and the boy proceeded to use it. The rest of the scene was playing "Here's To You" from the film "Sacco e Vanzetti" (also on Metal Gear Solid 4) as the man in a coat rides off to an airfield before taking off on a helicopter to an undisclosed location. Before erasing the "XOF" emblem off of the helicopter, he took out his hat and speaks about what transpired in very vague words. His face and head was all burned-up and scarred with no hair; at this point in time, we have no idea who he is. He proceeded to toss away all a stash of mini "XOF" emblems as he flew off with the rest of the soldiers.

[...]

Series creator Hideo Kojima then took centrestage and showed off the title's gameplay for a few minutes. We see Snake do what he does best: go in a prone state and sneak around (no Octocam this time; just old-fashioned crawling and hiding), as well as going into aiming mode in third person shooting a nearby guard at a security post. We should also mention that the demo gave out a sandbox open-world vibe; the military base itself felt expansive and huge, and Snake can summon a helicopter to bring him around as well as drive a jeep to go from point A to B. Kojima did state that he wishes to add a new spin to the stealth genre; even when you're discovered, you can use all the means and tools to escape rather than see a "game over" screen.

Open world is interesting. Suggests something of a change from the heavily linear, cutscene-driven gameplay of the past.

Ten people and six dogs minimum on Kinect.
