Very pleased for you, Doctor G. Sorry to hear about your lovely wife's situation, I'm sure things'll work out in the end, though.

I should really say yay for the amount of Freelance work I've had this year so far. Who knows, maybe I can tell my current employers to GTFF if it carries on the way it has been. Still waiting to hear back from the Taxman about my Sole Trader status (how long does it take for them to get back to you, I thought they'd be all over it by now?)

I just don't have much time to paint my aeroplanes and little spacemen though :'( ...but I can afford bigger ones! :metul: :DD

Congrats on the job and pay rise. I assume the latter will be "donated" to Apple pretty sharpish.

Also, Australia?

Uhh, how is that distinct to what I might do? Unless you make your mates emigrate too, that's more or less how it has to work. Although (obviously) I'm trying to figure out how Skype calls and Xbox gaming can span five timezones and let me still keep in touch with folk.

I maybe overplaying the "distance" thing in my mind, though. I think about 90% of my communication with my friends right now is electronic. In practice, I'm not sure moving changes as much as I think it does.

It's a good yay doc! A pay rise and promotion in this day an age is not to be sniffed at.
Yeah, no doubt. It's been a long time coming though. I turned down an offer of this job title when I quit this place in 2009 to go work at a startup.

Yes I'm in Sweden remember.
Yeah me and the girlfriend are planning to go there in September, initially on working holiday visas, with the aim to get sponsorship whilst there, one of my friends here did it and has got 4 years residency. It'll be better for me to get a real job there, I don't want to be working as a kock (chef) the rest of my life.

My friend moved away and ditched his friends in the kind of "delete them off Facebook/Twitter and not stay in touch" way.

I'm sure you wouldn't do that though but that's the story.

Good news Doc and it seems to have worked out the right way since it is making the decision about the US easier to handle. I would jump at the chance to move, one of my friends married an American woman last year and she moved back for a job last week. He is going out to join her soon and I'm pretty envious.
Great news about the extra freelance work as well Zardoz, long may it continue!

Well done Rich, that's great news. :)

Just been told at the sorting office that they are holding parcels for 18 days now instead of 7, I think that's a mini yay!

I now have a marathon time which begins with "2". Some 2 minutes per mile behind the winner, yes, but big, big deal. 24 minutes better than anything I've done before.

What's that? Oh, thanks very much for asking. 2:57:59. Loved it, crowds were immense.

Thanks all. It's pretty quick, but only good enough for top 1000. Passed James Bracknell, which felt good. Didn't see ms mcandrew, but she might have started with the elites, 45 mins earlier. If I could just chop my legs off now, I might be able to sleep.

Thank you all so much! Very chuffed is possibly an understatement, but yes you're right. The place was all mine, got it through the ballot and didn't tout for sponsorship on the grounds that it was something I wanted to do, so not quite as impressive as people who only do it because it's for charity. I suspect only anyone who runs under 2:20 is close to making any money out of it-and even then, one of the research assistants here did 2:19 last year but will always work full time. Sub 3 is kind of a holy Grail for reasonable club runners, so it's always been a 'thing' for me, if a distant one-last time I ran a marathon I aimed for 3:15 and got 3:51. And pissed off. All banished now!

Had a little cycle to work-actually easier than walking to and from train stations-and that was okay, just creak a lot when I get up. Tomorrow will be worse!

I has short term (2-3 week) contract. Job before last rang up and said "Er, you wouldn't happen to be available for a couple of weeks, would you?" and half an hour later I've got a contract in the email.

And I'll be working in the Royal Liver Building. Always wanted to work in a building like that.

All I have to do is figure out HTF to do OAuth and post to Twitter and Flickr. (Using C#, if anyone has done it.)

I was expecting to get £240K for our house if we sold it. However, the chap 3 doors up has a house the identical layout to ours, has just put it on the market for £270, and has already received offers of £260K. And our house is in much better nick than theirs. So that's promising.
