Had a quick go before work. It all seems pretty excellent so far, the cars seem a teensy bit weird to drive but I'm sure I'll get used to them. Not quite played enough to get all the shooting stuff wired into my brain properly yet but it already seems a lot better than GTA IV. I think I'm going to enjoy wasting all the spare time I currently don't have on this.

True, but if you can't play it for two weeks there's surely close to zero argument for picking it up on launch day?

Hence I have not bought it :)

Nope. If you order something then it's already available. Preorder is ok, I think.

Prewarn and preplan do my fucking nut, though.

The missus has borrowed my car today (she's been getting cabin fever pretty bad stuck indoors all this time) - but on the sole condition she drives into town and picks me up a copy. I'm nothing if not caring and generous.

Apparently Chop is thirsty and wants a drink but it still won't let me fecking log in. I wonder whether I'll load it up for the first time and get one star and the RSPCA will send the police around my virtual house once when I'm not in, and then the star will disappear.

I should've put a smiley on it - I was just having a joke. No WTB-style hysterics from here. You did rather have me bang to rights in that thread... I just had a sudden cash injection and a momentary lapse of reason (note to self: good name for a slightly bollocks new-age rock album there).

Ah, that's ok then. I did have an internal debate as to whether to post it or not. I wasn't sure how you'd react. Fair play to you.

I'd also worryingly forgotten about Hotline Miami and Papers, Please. I'm never sure whether or not to be flattered or worried when someone else knows more about facets of my life than I appear to!

Did you get Papers, Please by the way? That was a terrific little game that was! I've seen around 6 or so of the 19 possible endings to it now.

It's easy to forget downloadable titles, I do it all the time. Yes, P,P is excellent.

Phew. I was still undecided as I was going to buy it. I only chose PS3 because it seemed more likely to have more of you plebs on there.

Some dodgy textures seems to be the main thing, the 360 isn't streaming the assets as quick as the PS3 and so the characters are often walking over the low-res versions of the floor etc.

Annnnnnd get. Game were asking for a full £5 premium over the Asda price; the Asda that is less than two minutes walk away and I was going to anyway to get stuff for dinner. Madness.

My non-preordered copy still came with an Atomic Blimp code, which I guessed would happen but I'm still not unhappy about.

I'd be a bit more concerned about the framerate still crashing to about 20FPS when things get busy on both versions, not quite as bad as GTAIV, but still pretty bad.

By all accounts they have done a lot of pretty amazing work with the graphics engine on the whole, and whilst I was never expecting them to top 30FPS, I was at least hopeful they'd be able to maintain it pretty much all the time.

When you're down in the low 20s you're talking about some nasty input lag and a pretty choppy experience overall - I'll wait for the next-gen/PC version I think.

WTB said he was, but he just exited out of the revolving BEEX door again :)

I'd loved to have got this on a console, not least because I'd be playing it right now rather than waiting, but I just can't be doing with 20FPS and thereabouts in the year 2013, with input lag that's going to be measured in hundreds of milliseconds.

That's just not a fun way to play a game for me, you only need to watch the gameplay video at Eurogamer to see how much of the time both versions spend on the wrong side of 25FPS and down towards 20FPS.

I put up with it on GTAIV, but I'm not doing it again.

GTA IV was such a horrible port at first I really wouldn't get your hopes up for a long time. Could take them a year to get it right.

I wouldn't buy any of their games on PC on principal anyway. Proudly parp the trumpet for half-baked LA Noire on PC and yet no glorious cowboy hi-jinks Red Dead Redemption? BASTARDS!

It wasn't a horrible port so much as the PC to run it properly simply didn't exist when it was released.

Once quad-core CPUs became the norm and graphics card technology moved on a generation (1GB of RAM was basically your starting point for the graphics card), running the game at lovely pimped out settings became far easier.

Admittedly it did need a fair bit of patching as well though.

This time around though they're already going to have a next-gen console version in the pipeline, and since both the next-gen consoles are essentially PCs in a little box anyway, I'd expect the PC version to be pretty good straight out of the gate.

It's quite good so far.

I only have a 360, so that's the version I got.
