Oh well, needs must. Besides which, this is character-building television as far as I'm concerned!

I never had a nightmare until I was about 30

I am led to believe people think the kids in tonights show are the worst kids in Who ever. Of course, they are wrong. This is the worst -http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0cBaoAJY3Fk#t=361s

Warwick Davis seemed to be excellent because he wasn't playing a typical Warwick Davis character. Kept waiting for the one liners to come and they didn't.

Possibly the best in the series.

Really liked last night's episode for some reason.

Used Netflix to watch Resurrection of the Daleks the other night. Oh dear, that wasn't very good at all...

Have mixed feelings about Resurrection. It is very well directed by Matthew Robinson and they actually manage to keep the lights down on the spaceship sets which is a plus point. Rodney Bewes aside the guest cast are quite good. Terry Molloy makes his debut as Davros and is quite superb when combined with the new mask.

However it's a Saward script which means death death death. It's bad enough when he's script editor alone but he's on writing duties on this one and he's such a charmless humourless writer that it brings the whole thing down. It's also needlessly complex which again sucks some of the joy out of it.

However Wife In Space gave it 8 out of 10 so what do I know?

Hmm, have to say I didn't really enjoy last night's episode. Promised much but it was just the Cybermen again and we've had them so many times, so, whatever, I suppose.

Have the Cybermen always been able to do that 'moving really fast' thing, or was that new?

And why didn't they do it when they were getting shot?

As lovely as the new assistant is, i'm just finding the latest series pretty boring and unengaging. It seems to lurch from one virtually identical story to the next, all wrapped up in a nice little inoffensive 45 minute parcel. No real character development, no real drama. It's all perfectly watchable, but it's become a show that we watch when we have nothing else on the sky box to watch.

Fast moving / Fast upgrades were new.

Also a warning for everyone - some US outlets have sent out people the DVD / Blue ray disks for Series 7B which *includes* this weekends episode so there are people who are posting spoilers and comments on it because they have seen "The Name of the Doctor"

So if there are spoiler things out there and you want to avoid them your probably best not reading anything online about stuff until this weekend :-(

(I dont mind speculation and guesswork and people putting stuff together but i'll be avoiding anything mentioning spoilers now for this week simply because I want to see the program without knowing all the twists).

I really liked this one. I liked the man pretending to be a chess playing robot, I liked the "don't explode this" bits, I liked the kid not being scared and the Doctor arguing with himself. the man from Trollied was good as well, as was Davies.

Except for, again, except for:

The Cybermen. it's fucking lazy to keep bringing them back, and they are not like a shit version of Trek's Borg. Like, really shit. And the "running really fast" bit was a bit rubbish as well. Like having a dalek fly. And none of them did it again.

Clara continues to get on my tits, her character is not one I can give a shit about at all, as there has been no real development involving the "mystery". no doubt it will be done in flashback with a "HA! Aren't we clever that, us, the writers hid all these clues that you missed!". No, writers, you are not.

http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2013/05/dw ... early.html

Quote:
Some fans in America have been enjoying the Doctor Who series finale early due to a mistake in the American distribution of the Series 7 Blu-rays and DVDs.

The Name of the Doctor, which concludes the current series of the show, is due for transmission next weekend in the UK, North America and Australia. The episode is included in the Series Seven - Part Two Blu-ray, which was due to be released on 28 May.

However a distribution error has meant some copies of the discs have already been sent out in North America giving some fans a sneak preview of the final episode.

Doctor Who's brand manager, Edward Russell, has appealed to fans who have seen the episode to keep the show's secrets until it is broadcast at the weekend. On twitter he said
Production error in US means DW bluray shipped early. Let's hope no one spoils it for those who want to enjoy it together on Saturday. This is like a Doctor Who version of the Dunkirk spirit! I know some folk want to boast, but it's so much better if we all watch together.

The second I saw the chess playing robot I paused the TV to discuss 'The Mechanical Turk' with the wife. So then when the door opened we did have a quick chortle. Some fun allusions and stuff in there.

Also, I like Clara. She gets some good lines, like "I'm not sure I'd go that far".

And Gaiman named one of the characters (Webley) after one of his wife's friends, which brought a brief smirk to my face.

Really enjoyed this week's. Anything mentioning the Mechanical Turk always gets a +50 in my arbitrary scoring system, but a Mechanical Turk as a cyberman is worth a double word score at least.

I liked the mechanical turk reference and the images of all previous doctors. However the episode was merely okay. Nice tomb of the cybermen reference as well though.

Quite like Warwick Davis being probably the strongest actor in the whole thing.

Didn't like The Doctor arguing with himself (or cyber controller if you prefer).

Good I suppose that the cybermen were fairly scary. But overall still too much sonic screwdriver wafting and whatnot. Hide is still the best of this series.

Random theory. (Only read if watched 'The Name Of The Doctor')
If you see any reason it may be wrong, please do tell so that I can re-think it :)

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Is John Hurt meant to be a Doctor? Or, actually, not the doctor.
Matt Smith is the 11th doctor, but is he maybe the 12th body that time lord has had? The doctor mentions how his name makes him who he is. Is John hurt a time lord from that body that didn't take the name doctor?

Thats what I thought too, I think it's likely he's the first. And with the fact he seems like the type, he could have been the last (the big battle the doctor killed in, he lead it?) but Matt Smith seems to hate him and know him too much for him to be a future one, surely the doctor should know nothing about his future self? He hasn't 'experienced' being them yet. The Doctor has never really known about his future self before, and never in as much detail as would cause him to hate it.

Or maybe he didn't recognise the person standing there, but as it had to be him, he knew it was a future him, although your theory sounds more plausable.

Doctor 8 1/2? No, I prefer to think that McGann did the BAD STUFF and was so overwhelmed by it all the shock turned him into a PTSD-suffering gruff Northerner (who then went on an R&R excursion across space and time, some of the holiday snaps showing up in 'Rose').

I think Hurt could be 0, who had a Timelordy-teenage rebellion which 1 later completely disapproved of. On the other hand, having Hurt as 12 would be cool.

I don't think
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Hurt can't be Doctor Zero. William Hartnell's Doctor didn't refer to himself by that name until a few episodes into his run, he didn't even choose the name IIRC. He was with Susan who called him Grandfather, and someone else suggested he was like a Doctor or something.

I'm going with
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Hurt is a "secret" regeneration between McGann and Eccleston. One that ends the Time War, and then I think it would be suitably dark if he is so ashamed of what he's done that he voluntarily regenerates into Eccleston - although I doubt we'd see that. They could fudge it though with some careful filming, like they did for Colin Baker's regeneration into McCoy.

Probably going to rewatch it.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
My problem with the Time War Doctor argument is that since 2005 the Docs have been pretty open about the basics of what he did (genocide of at least two civilisations), at least to the audience and some of his companions. Unless it was even more horrific than that, perhaps even sparking the Time War in the first place, or running the Gallifreyan Gauntanamo or something, it doesn't feel like a very secret secret at all.

Still, 6 months of idle speculation ahead! :)

Still, kudos to Moffatt. It was a genuine surprise - as unexpected as the shock regeneration in the penultimate episode of series 4. I was watching it last night with a friend (who 'doesn't like' Eurovision so spent the evening pretending to flick through some books whilst passing judgement on each song) - we just sat stunned at the reveal.

I broke the silence by suggesting that the only way they could have topped it was to have had Peter Cushing appear.

John Hurt, whatever 'version' of the Doctor he is, or what, he's clearly got to feature more 'cos of the "Introducing John Hurt as the Doctor" thing.

Best not to spend too much time speculating, as it sort of doesn't even matter, just know it'll be good having him there.

As for Clara, and since I don't think anyone else has raised this yet, but
