I'm starting to think that our only option is murdering the noisy bitch next door and shooting any and every chav who walks past until they stop walking past.

I just want a standalone house in the middle of a fucking field somewhere. With fibre optic broadband.

It's amazing how quickly mould disappears with a fresh coat of paint applied between one tenant moving out and another coming in.

I view any money I get back from a deposit as a Christmas bonus: as with whores, you're paying to get screwed.

With regard to getting your deposit back, what's the general experience with this? This is our first home and we've been here 18 months. As far as I'm aware, we haven't broken anything and it's certainly cleaner than it was the day we moved in. Will I get it all back? Or is it quite common for landlords to attempt to fuck you over?

WTB: Buy the bunglaow at the end of my road, it is £70k. We could be friends and go to the park and up Shipley Glen and things. Or you can get a three bed flat for £35k.

Let's see the bungalow, lad. I'm buying something this year.

As for Stu, i think he is an actively good blog writer when he wants to be. When I was unemployed, I really enjoyed reading his reviews of stuff like new Outrun, new Gradius and cool music pieces on Elvis and Billy Ocean (honest!).

@AE why does anyone have to be a 'cunt'? It's not us or him.

Same as Kern so far.
The current place I pay them next to no money and fix anything that breaks / wears out myself. Don't think the landlord has even visited in 5 years.

Had no problems when I left my last place, but I'm with a letting agency and the deposit sits with a third party. Had no problems with it, but as I was staying with the same agency, the deposit from one was used for the next.

We had no problems getting our deposit back but I had not so subtley informed the landlord that anything other than 100% of it would lead to problems down the line. This was the flea infested damp ridden house with the leaking roof we were moving from and the list of reports I had made (lots) and actions taken by him (not enough).

It depends on the landlord. My last place, I got charged £50 to have the room repainted, which is fair enough as I'd been in it for two years and hadn't touched the decor. Another place, I got it all back given that the house itself was pretty shit to begin with. In my current place, my contract helpfully includes a £60 charge to be deducted from the deposit simply for someone from the agency to come round on the last day. I think I might ask him to dance - might as well get my money's worth.

Defining 'fair wear and tear' is impossible [EDIT: go on, lawyers, tear this line apart], and depends on the state of the property. This time round, I have all my photos from the day I moved in (I included a CD with them when I handed in their copy of the inventory) so should be able to prove that some of the more noticeable marks on the wall were there when I started.

Is it in the wrong bit of the country and/or are you charging too much considering we're in the middle of a dreadful recession?

Mimi!

You are our resident awesome sauce person. I am in desperate need of help. (a) Could you make a cuddly toy of Neep from Abney and Teal?

Image

(someone's done a plushy here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shiro_ko/s ... 226430551/)

(b) if so, could I commission you to do one (in whatever material), and how much would you want for it?

This is for me, not my kids,so it needs to be extra awesome. :)

What's the area, though?

I know through my brother who lives in North Manchester, for example, that there are some addresses/areas up there where you almost literally can't give tenancies away.

Also, don't forget that whole recession thing.

And there must be a housing shortage if new build places near me are going for 400k+

No fucking wonder I'm never going to be able to afford a house :(

FUUUCK! WHERE FROM?

Abney and Teal is our favourite programme, and I desperately want a Neep. So much so the kids want to get me one for my birthday :)

Neep is like the kid's TV equivalent of Malcolm Reynolds.

Sorry I wasn't actually calling anyone a cunt :)

It was just a reaction to that seemingly automatic 'Fuck Stu' reaction that sometimes crops up.

I think Cavey got it spot on with an earlier post, whatever disagreements folks may have online about stuff, it takes a very stony heart to actually wish anyone any ill-will IRL, as it were.

Not sure where we got it from. Possibly the front of a magazine.

I get a warning on Firefox if I got click on that singahobby URL directly, but I get nothing if I go to the thread you mention and there's no trace of the URL if I view source on either of the thread pages. Odd.

Let's see the bungalow, lad. I'm buying something this year.

The bungalow seems to have been sold.

however, for £70k in the same area there is a 2 bed terrace but the neighbours have an england flag hanging up.
