Is there no complaint system or warning system or polite request system?

That's what I find slightly distasteful about this. It's a little bit schoolyard, to be honest. "We're ignoring you but we're not going to tell you".

I assume you can tell them. If you want too.

I won't ignore any one. I only created this thread as we are losing a lot of folks

Don't use it then.

As I've said before I exhausted all possible reactions and this thread allowed the opportunity to confront the problem and find a solution. If that's childish, so be it.

I'd rather have 100% Dimrill than 0% Dimrill and for that it gets my backing.

I chose not to ignore anyone though, if anyone gives a shit.

I probably won't. I've only ever had one person on ignore and she's not here anymore anyway. And I always used to open her psots anyway. I pick at scabs, too.

I do understand where you're coming from Dimmers, and I'm certainly not calling you childish, but I dunno, I just find the idea that someone could not just be put on regular "ignore" but be completely expunged from the forum (together with any conversations including them) for a number of people a little bit worrying.

I'm struggling to articulate why, though. Maybe it's the fact that it feels like it could result in a whole load of people ganging up on someone (by ignoring them. Yes, that make no sense now I reread it) and basically inhabiting a parallel forum without that person ever knowing.

I'd be happier if the forum told you who had you on ignore, if we're going to do this. And perhaps force the individuals to attempt reconciliation first, or sommat.

As I've said, the ignore function as it was was simply not enough in this case. Surely you understand that there's degrees of responses required for differing circumstances?

Yeah, definitely understand that. But as I edited above I'm just a bit concerned it could get misused as a blanket tool.

And yes, I'm worried it would be done at me cos I'm a big twat.

Oh, I forgot to thank Grim... Thank you so much, man. It'll mean a very great difference in my forum experience and I fully appreciate the amount of code monkeying you had to do to make it possible. Thank you.

The rules state we want people to say what they like, but they should try to consider other people as they do so.

That's somewhat paraphrased.

Ignore is the same as following three peoplemfrom a group of four whomregularly have four way chats on twittwr. We all do that all the time probably.

On YakYak there's an ignore and the ignored's posts are minimised in the thrad, so you can see where they came. I have it on for this one prick who plays all games on easy and rates them according to how long it takes the, to finish. His total contribution is always either 'too short, rental only' or.... Well, that's actually all he ever says. Such people can be purged with minial disruption to a thread.

Frankly if you are ignoring someone and keep having to click into their posts to follow the thread they're probably worth not ignoring anyway.

I sincerely hope this is the thread where he finally gets it, but the fact that he went on to do the big post above just suggests to me that he hasn't.

I 'get it' perfectly well insofar as I understand what folks are saying they don't like, and I'll knock it on the head, but at the same time it'd be nice if I could be 'allowed' (for want of a better way of putting it) to make a simple fact-based post like I did in the Borderlands 2 thread - with a link to a pretty interesting Eurogamer face-off where they took a look at all the PhysX stuff and what have you - without getting jumped on.

When it comes to the overall situation with regards to all this stuff, I don't know who 'started it' as it were, but one way or another it's ended up at a pretty antagonistic situation, and I'm saying I'm happy to call time on my contribution to that atmosphere if other folks can do the same.

Mind you, it may all be a moot point now anyway since Grim... has implemented the BEEX Multiple Reality Filter System, which could lead to some pretty odd results as BEEX will exist in multiple inconsistent simultaneous states depending on how folks have chosen to view the forum

I'll carry on as I was before, I've never put anyone on ignore here and I don't intend to start now.

Is there any way for folks to tell who's got them on ignore? The active membership at BEEX isn't exactly massive, so if out of that active membership you've got multiple permutations of Person X Ignoring Person Y and Z, Person Z Ignoring Person Y, Person W ignoring Person X and Z etc etc - it's easy to see how we're gonna end up with people repeating stuff/missing stuff and/or turning threads into confusing messes for folks who've got no one on ignore.

I'm not sure this is a great solution, if I'm honest, it just feels odd.

Depends how inflammatory, really. Everyone's (pretty much) an adult here, and if they want to have fights, they can go ahead. Anything that goes beyond a pretty damned stretchy limit would have to be looked at, but censorship is not an ideal response.

Us mods are more janitors than anything else. I struggle to remember the last time mod involvement that went beyond 'now, now, settle down' was needed.

There is a report/system. It's used about 49% for comedy purposes, 50% because Kissyfur is a fuckwit who can't workout how to nominate a post of the week, and 1% for identifying spammers who've slipped past Curiosity the eagle eyes of your hard-working mod team.

2) There is no rule 2.

The day you invite a pretty girl to the quiz and she turns up is the day you can criticize, all right?

Anyway, I didn't invite her boyfriend, she asked if she could bring her friend, and I was too busy thinking about hot boobie on boobie action to consider that it might involve hot winky between boobies action.

...

I'll be in my bunk.

Am guessing that means you have me on ignore :(

I'd be happier if the forum told you who had you on ignore, if we're going to do this. And perhaps force the individuals to attempt reconciliation first, or sommat.

I think that would be way worse, psychologically. Facebook doesn't send you a message when Johnny Park from middle school has unfriended you, or Hootie McBoob has blocked you from seeing her twitter. It's rejection, and I'd rather not know that Dimrill thinks I smell of hammers.

I may, though, start commenting in all threads about how much better the thread's titular activity would be if it was done while listening to heavy metal. Man, you're attending civil war re-enactments/driving cars/wondering what happened to this forum without listening to heavy metal while you're doing it? God, that's so rubbish!

Also: two of my three foes don't post here any more. And not just because of the new foe guidelines.

Also also: I was never invited to a super secret forum. Bastards.
