It might be ok I guess. There are so very many ways that they could fuck it all up, though. It's not like when they remade Battlestar Galactica, because that was fairly shite to begin with.

It's ghastly to think about the grisly fate that awaits all of us; our assured mortality. One minute you're on top of the world, a beautiful young woman in her case; the next thing you know you're waiting for death. Not so long ago I felt invincible, even well into my 30s, physically and mentally at the top of my game; in my prime. Less than a mere decade later things are already different, and they're gonna get a whole lot worse from here on and all the money, career and success in the world isn't going to change that. I know this is terribly morbid, and not at all how I normally like to think, but it's just so important that you young 'uns fecking enjoy yourselves. Shit, perhaps Prince Harry was right afterall.

Agree with your other points as well btw; I too assume they'll start from the beginning as they'll be bringing the show to a whole new audience who've never heard of it, less still able to deal with the final cliffhanger from the off.

Last time I had that film it was on video and sold for £17.

Anyway I heartily approve of more B7 as long as they keep some semblance of the original there.

American remakes of British stuff always end up cringe-inducingly sanitised, with American TV execs Really Not Getting what made the original so great in the first place (even if the American fans do).

Still, I'll be interested to at least have a look. I hope they keep the Liberator the same - that was a real design classic.

Actually, I want to dredge something up from this debacle: Chinny left about 1/2 way through the C64 challenge where I was kicking his ass (as I recall), thanks to the Bulge. I've never forgiven him. The cunt.

I broadly agree, but the BSG remake -- which was tonally quite close to Blake's 7 -- is surely grounds for cautious optimism here.

That's not actually why he left, but, y'know!

Also: US The Office, which after finding its feet was superb.

It'll be shite unless they have the original Orac.

It'll prolly be shite anyroadup, but I really hope it isn't.

Especially if they do it with proper actors this time.

Except the BSG remake was hateful.

I liked a lot about the BSG remake. My main problems with it were:

* It was like a BSG / West Wing mashup - entirely too much time spent on people-in-suits gassing in meeting rooms and chuntering away behind rostrums whilst the press shouted out questions.
* I felt the Big Ending was feeble.

Still, I'll do my level best to watch the B7 remake with an open mind.

I do agree on the press issue, I still cannot fathom why the press still behaved exactly the same way as alway despite everything blowing up. But I actually really liked the ending to BSG. Am I the only one out there on this?

Yeah, I'm coming down on your side in this Grim... It was pretty much fantastic. all told.

Starbuck in new BSG is a prime example of American TV execs pulling their punches and ending up with something insipid. Okay, they made Starbuck a women this time. Very good. But they kept the cigar smoking and ditched the chasing the ladies bit. If they'd done it the other way around it would've made the character bang up to date and in tune with the times.

I also liked the ending.

I thought it was brilliantly made, excellently plotted, ambitious, and clever.

Unfortunately, every single character other than the lawyer dude with the cat (because he's brilliant in everything) is utterly hateful and totally unsympathetic.

I wouldn't say that it was anywhere near to perfect either, it had a lot of superfluous goings on and seemed a bit unsure of itself at times, some of the mystical stuff misfired a bit I thought. But the good bits were really good and I enjoyed it a lot.

He'll always be Badger to me. Even though his role in BSG is much bigger, and I saw that first.

He's also in Leverage, a mildly entertaining insurance investigator becomes modern day Robin Hood show. I make a point of watching everything he's in, frankly.

BSG was good, but I agree with Craster, the ending was shit, really really fucking appalling. The whole politics/press thing was American bullshit of the worst kind. There was one ship with weapons, do what they fucking say or fuck off.
