Just checked this thread to say well done Gilly! I bet you feel amazing!

It's almost inspired me to do a bit more exercise. My trousers and T shirts seem to be getting smaller by the day.

New shoes bought, with super gel soles or something.
Apparently I was slightly over something, which meant I need to buy shoes that did something to stop that something happening.

I should work in a running shop, i've got all the lingo now.

Lady in the shop told me not to run for a few days to let my legs properly rest before going out in the new shoes though, which is a bit of an arse.

Over-pronate, presumably. It means your feet roll inwards too much when you run. I under-pronate massively.

Keep it up, weight-reducing people. Every breath you take dehydrates you, so remember to drink water. Every move you make burns off extra calories. Every chemical fat bond you break will help slim you up. Every step you take makes you more efficient.

Btw, I'm watching you all.

I could post some pictures but all you'd see is a fat bastard, and a slightly less fat bastard. Boobs would be nowhere near as good either*.

Ooops! :D
My Monday morning weigh-in was a bit misleading, as I obviously hadn't absorbed everything from the excesses of the weekend by then.
Tuesday morning weigh-in showed a 1.5lb increase.

Back out running tonight in my spangly new shoes :)

Thanks for the compliments and kind words folks. I used to always think I'd never be able to motivate myself to lose weight when it takes months and years to see the weight you want to be rather than weeks but my opinion on that changed once I started. In a relatively short space of time, probably weeks, I was beginning to notice clothes fit differently. I started the weigh in at work thing at the end of September and received my first unsolicited comments about it at the work Christmas dinner, when three separate people who I usually have no interaction with came up to ask me if I'd lost weight. After that, every few weeks or so someone at work would ask about it and say how different I looked and having people say something about it out of the blue was a real motivater.

One of the best bits has been shopping for new holiday clothes and trying on sizes I've not fit into for 6 years, or buying and wearing a bikini with no hang ups about my body at all.
For anyone thinking about losing weight, I would really recommend just going for it. The key things that helped me were
1)a weekly weigh in, so I could see what I had achieved which encouraged me on for another week
2)keeping a food diary at the start, so on less successful weeks I could pinpoint where I had gone wrong
3)Reducing portion sizes: I'm still not great at this, I love rice and pasta and could (and do) just fill a plate with them, however I force myself now to prepare less and try and measure out proper portions most times I make them.
4) Taking food to work. Stopped getting rolls in the morning and started eating cereal, followed by a baguette or low fat meal for lunch. I found the key here was to make sure I kept my packed lunch interesting. Taking in a ham sandwich would hade had me queuing for the canteen as soon I went for my lunch but making a baguette with ham, halloumi and tomatoes meant I looked forward to it.

Hope that doesn't sound preachy, I just want to offer any tips I can of things that helped me! My biggest single factor was wearing a pedometer and seeing an estimate of fat/calories burned in a day vs fat and calorie content of some quite seemingly innocent food. I'm lucky in that I have a pretty active job but if you don't, just start walking after work. My sister had a baby 18 months ago and she's slimmer than she's ever been, because her car broke and she walks everywhere with the pram.

When I got to 26lbs off, I was really looking forward to the next weeks weigh in so as I could hit that 2 stone off mark. Next week came and I'd gained a pound. The next week, I lost 0.5lbs. It went on like that for about four weeks. I was so frustrated! :D

It helps that my new job involves a 22 minute walk from the train to the office, and vice-versa, most days. The past couple of jobs have been working from home or driving to the office.
Even after a week I can feel that the walk doesn't effect me anymore, whereas first day I was a bit pooped by the time I got in.

My legs are still a tiny bit achey in the shins from the last run, but I really want to try out my new shoes tonight, so fuck it :D

I did a three and a half mile walk yesterday evening with mrsA, as part of her efforts. It was not so bad, given sunday's exertions. I might use the route as a running thingy for when I can't be bothered getting the bike out, as it is short enough for me not to get bored, and there's several short cuts home.

Firstly: Bloody hell Gill, well done!

Secondly: Even when I've not been following the forum that well (stupid real life), it appears I've kept in sync with the zeitgeist of the place. For you see, I too have been sorting my shit out*.

According to WeightBot I have lost 14.1kg (~2 stone to imperial twats) over the last 88 days (about 1kg (2lb) a week. Using the high tech, fad diet of eat less calories a day than I need to stay alive. Who would have thought!?

I've just done the first day of C25K, and it was fine, but I feel like achy crap today. Don't know if I'll keep with it. Will try day 2, but might leave it and try again when I'm just trying to maintain my mass.

* 'diet' implies an end, and I've realised I'm going to have to count calories forever to have any hope of staying in an appropriate mass window. Which I'm fine with because of the wonderful My Fitness Pal app for my iPhone. Anyone else use that? Super easy way to log everything you each, hell it even scans barcodes!

Cheers! Hopefully I can keep it off during my holidays - it's a lot easier to not snack at work...

I'm also being very geeky and weighing myself daily and using an exponentially weighted moving average to work out my weight.

For the love of all that is holy, don't do what i did which was drink beer for most of the first afternoon, followed by gin and lemon in the evening and only realise that they were pouring ridiculous sized measures of gin the next day when you reflect back on the night before. This may or may not have contributed to us deciding swimming in the sea in our underwear at 2am was a good* idea.

*in hindsight, it was a bloody awesome idea. Great fun. But the gin certainly contributed to the formation and execution of said idea.

Underwear? Pah! Amateurs. you want stark naked in a gravel pit at 3am, the night before your friend's wedding who is in the lake, also naked and you'res tanding on a railing of a jetty as the police car with the searchlight comes around the corner and spots you as you jump the 10 feet into teh water below.

Brilliant! :D I think that a contributing factor to the presence of at least *some* clothes was the fact that we were with two of my girlfriends sisters and there was a security guard on the gate to our hotel, who may not have appreciated us running around in the nude. :P

Week 2 complete :) New shoes were certainly better but i'm still getting some pain. I think I should have really rested another day longer, but I had new toys to play with :D

Past 2 weeks I have run 15 miles and burned approx 1900 calories :)

Legs feel great today, no pain at all :) Really looking forward to week 3, which is 90 seconds running, 90 seconds walking, 3 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, and repeat.

And i've just bought some multi-vitamins to take once a day, what the fuck is wrong with me, I seem to be having my mid-life crisis a few years early!

Underwear? Pah! Amateurs. you want stark naked in a gravel pit at 3am, the night before your friend's wedding who is in the lake, also naked and you'res tanding on a railing of a jetty as the police car with the searchlight comes around the corner and spots you as you jump the 10 feet into teh water below.

Brilliant! :D I think that a contributing factor to the presence of at least *some* clothes was the fact that we were with two of my girlfriends sisters and there was a security guard on the gate to our hotel, who may not have appreciated us running around in the nude. :P

Luckily, after we we were caught and realsied that we could be in serious fucking trouble in the middle of BumFuck, Iowa, we were able to rely on our ace in the hole:

The sober, clothed and very well spoken daughter of a baptist rpeacher from the next town over, who had been driving us around that evening. She was one of the nicest people I've ever met. I went to her father's house and shot his (unregistered, unlicenced) shotgun and semi auto rifle and rode his horses for an afternoon. It was fun.

I think she saw me naked more days than not in the time i was in her company. On my departure, she gave me a whole bunch of literature about the church, god and jesus, which I thought was remarkably thoughtful of her.

Cheeky fuckers. You're doing the Couch to 5K course. There's no such thing as the NHS couch to 5K course (other than the podcasts they provide telling you when to do what), they appear to have just decided to brand it as their own.

Waste of money, unfortunately. As long as you have a balanced diet, they are pointless.
