Plus I got a raise today! Waiting to be told exactly what amount it is, but it is in my bank account already. If it hasn't been back dated or anything and that is going to be my monthly going forward then 8)

It isn't backdated! 12% increase :) Woo!

Running out of the office today I was suddenly aware that I wasn't moving and that my knee was hurting. After a few moments it dawned on me that I had run straight into a bollard without noticing. Stil, I provided some slapstick entertainment to the lengthy bus queue watching my discomfort from across the road, so at least it wasn't in vain.

[Parking cars]

A good number of years ago, I parked in one of the parking spaces (proper painted ones) outside the flat I used to live in - not right outside, as that has dedicated parking spaces and my Range Rover was in that, so I parked outside the grounds on the street.
I was just getting out and someone parked behind my car (on the road), got out and told me I couldn't park there.

Man: [angrily] You can't park there.
Your Hero: Why not?
Man: You don't live here.
YH: I live in Aragon tower. [points at tower block fifty feet away]
Man: You should park in there, then!
YH: I don't have a space I can park in inside the fence [technically correct!]
Man: These spaces are for residents of [whatever the row of houses was called. In fact, he possibly said 'these houses']
YH: [Glances in his windscreen] You don't even have a permit!
Man: What?
YH: You don't even have a permit to park in these spaces. It should be stuck to your windscreen.
Man: What permit?
YH: A parking permit!
Man: [Even more angrily] What are you talking about?! You don't need a permit to park here!
YH: Yeah right - so anyone can park in these spaces any time they feel like it?
Man: YES!
YH: [blips the car, walks off]

Heh, excellent.

A fucking, fucking SHIT day today. Constant stream of work from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. No respite, no fixes, as soon as one issue was resolved another two cropped up in its place. So I drive home. The cones are already out in Caerphilly for the fucking torch relay tomorrow, and that meant that the road was so narrow a bus clipped a taxi and I was stuck in a traffic jam behind (Cardiff Road is the main shopping street and is one way, very narrow) while the resolved their differences.

I arrive home, no parking spaces, and a stench of shit in the air. What I thought was a recover van with an uber battery charger in the back turns out to be Dwr Cymru paying an emergency visit to our neighbours (everyone's lights were on). Their sewer was blocked, and sure enough there's a man in an HV vest in their back yard, one in ours, Mrs Metal is running around flushing the toilet and running taps so they can confirm they've cleared the blockage (we have no less than three manholes on our property, and it would appear I'd missed the spectacle of the long bendy stick being shoved down through the thick feces to clear the problem)

So. I'm back in work in 11 hours, my house smells of shit, and I've had a rotten day. Only six days to go!

What a coincidence! The drains have been blocked in my street today as well.

Luckily, there's an inspection cover at either of my next door neighbours houses but none on mine.

Last time I went to Ilkley Moor it threw rain and hail at me. I got back to the car with mild exposure and lost the tax disc. This time, it offered up sun. Lots of it. I'm really a bit burnt. Kern wore long sleeves and a hat so is relatively OK. Took lots of photos.

Thinking about a trip to Scarborough tomorrow - assuming it's still really sunny. Gonna spend all day inside amusement arcades looking for pinball machines, natch, to escape the heat.

Scarborough is a huge shithole compared to what it once was. Used to be one arcade on the seafront there had all the best pinball tables in one row.

Last time I went it was wall to wall teddy grabbing machines, the most basic fruit machines possible and dancing games.

The millennium thing (details details) near the end of the seafront which looks like nothing more than a shop front is actually pretty interesting.

Happy birthday! sorry my photos are huge files. Apologies all around. Nobody wanted to see a picture of me in a pub, or Kern on Ilkley Moor, anyway.

We went down to Roberts Park in Saltaire and spent a couple of hours there. MrsA read her Kindle, I watched the cricket, whilst we drank wine and ate sandwiches. Which was very enjoyable. As was MrsA's question "How do you know which team is which?" question. It's hard for me to still believe that this is a 10 minute walk away. I now have plans for most Sundays, when I'm not otherwise engaged doing whatever it is I seem to do. The building in the background is Salts Mill, and you can read about that all here. I've been working on my sunburn, too.

Huge hangover. Some pals and I went to a lawyer's house for a barbeque. We had Prosecco, a Pinot, Gavi, Planeta Rosé, Campari in Prosecco, Jacob's Creek Shiraz...

I thought I was ok. Went to the bathroom, but while in there, my equilibrium totally went. Reeled into the back wall, reeled forward (it was like being on a ship in a storm), had to hold on to the sink to steady myself. Not sure how long I had taken, but people were looking for me.

Went to the bathroom again, simply because they told me where the downstairs one was. Good idea, as the puking began. Oh how it sucked. Then someone called a taxi for me, I got in it, and kept puking. i had enough wits about me that I wanted to be polite. So I puked on my shorts and t-shirt rather than his car. No idea how I got to my house, but I did. And puked more.

Don't mix wines!

There was what appeared to be a huge grass fire on the hillside overlooking the A470 just north of Nantgarw this evening.
