Nice to see that Head Office, where most of the shit business decisions will have been made bore the brunt.

Quote:
The result is that by the end of the day around 2,104 GAME employees will have lost their jobs - 40 per cent of its UK workforce.

15 of these jobs have been lost from its Basingstoke head office with the rest coming from its stores.

No! Wait! The other one!

I saw a figure of 385 employees(?) I think at the head office, so that would make around 3% loss of jobs in head office.

When the company I work for was took over there was a 13% staff loss in stores, and a 100% staff loss in head office.

Yeah, if they get bought, job losses at head office will be pretty much total, unless the company that buys them have no retail presence at all, anywhere.

However until that happens, and as shops get closed, it'l be the shop staff losing out. A few hundred less stores won't make much of a difference to how many people are needed to manage the business as a whole.

I think both the Stockport Game/Gamestation next door neighbours are both open still. At least, I saw a big list of closures and they weren't on it... don't really propose going in just to check though.

Not suprising there were no real bargins when Woolworths went bust, they were selling games for £5-10 more than Play.com in my local store 2 days before it closed.

Administrators are just accountants so they won’t be letting them give anything away, their aim will be run the business as normal, until they sell it or wind it up that is.

Hmm. Just seen the closure list. The GAME and Gamestation in Bromley are both closed. That's...irritating.

Get drunk first.

I once ordered Ozzy Osbourne's entire back catalogue on CD from hmv.com a few years ago. (Came to about £200 IIRC.)

Fortunately when I got up in the morning the order was still 'pending' so I was able to cancel it. I also never drunk that much rum in one evening again.

Well if you type "closure list of game stores" into this marvellous thing called 'Google', the first result is this: http://www.platformnation.com/2012/03/2 ... sure-list/ you incredibly lazy person.

My mother-in-law is a mental QVC shopper, she sends about 90% of everything she orders back, she just likes to have a look at things.

i did that on my last day in Germany, except I got the train to Stuttgart to do it. I also bought two pairs of aviator goggles. While my dad and his girlfriend, having driven non-stop from the UK, packed my stuff into his car. He wasn't happy.

There was a bloke on Sky News last night talking about the demise of Game. He was saying that most people buy their "game DVDs and Cassettes" from a proper store rather than download them. :belm:

The list baffles me - shops I know to be usually busy shut, meanwhile the shop in Epsom which gets no customers from what I can tell remains open.

Yep. The store in Dudley that's normally busy shuts yet the shop in West Brom that is never busy and has a crap selection of games (including preowned) remains open... For now.

I read somewhere that they just had a list (an old list) of the amount of profit each shop generates and culled off everything below a certain point regardless of where things were.

So that might lead to situations where two shops in the same street would remain open , and the only one serving a whole town would be closed

I'd have thought it won't just be about sales -- rent and lease contracts would also play a part.

I can only assume the list is based on rents...Sheffield basically has no where open any more while Barnsley keeps its two shops.

Game could be bought by RBS?

Eurogamer wrote:
The Royal Bank of Scotland will buy GAME out of administration - and it could happen as soon as tomorrow, a new report has declared.

UK trade publication MCV heard the news from "multiple sources".

RBS, which led GAME's money lending syndicate, had been tipped by national press as the favourite to acquire GAME.

But should the report run true, questions will be asked about RBS' rumoured block to a bid made by Comet's parent company OpCapita for GAME last week.

GAME entered administration days ago. Administrators PwC shut 277 stores and revealed plans to let go 2014 staff by the end of the week.

In Ireland, a sit-in protest was held by GAME staff worried about redundancy pay.

Should RBS buy GAME out of administration tomorrow, the business may not necessarily return to life as it once was. The terms of the deal could yet be brutal.

How do they imagine that will help in the slightest?

The Irish ones seem a little different as they have slightly different redundancy laws over there and GAME seem to be screwing around with them - theres a bit on MVC yesterday that i'll dig up and post in a minute
