WHY, MAN? I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS!

In all seriousness, I don't think it suits a pure discussion forum at all - at least SO has a good reason for it. When it's put into a normal forum half the posts end up as "that was worth more than three" or "why are you marking me down?!?".

Another forum I frequent has a "+" button, but no ZOMG I HATE YOU "-" button, because they tried that and things got cliquey and personal. Generally, a thoughtful, considered post will get two or three +1s, while a nob joke will get fifty.

Or rather, it's what I surmise is shock kicking in.
It's your vagus nerve. Some people have a sensitivity to various conditions -- injections being one -- that makes it panic. Your blood pressure and heart rate drop and you go into shock, as Bik says.

Mine is being around scores of beautiful women that only want me for my money. To avoid the panic, I sit at the bar and make small talk about how one can drive a car from California to Ripon.

My Nan says he's been unwell for a month or more, but he's been hiding it because he's a proud old sod who doesn't like to admit he needs help. Up to 10 years ago he was walking 1-2 miles a day and has always treasured his independence. Just hope he hasn't done something serious by not admitting he needs help. :(

Sounds exactly like my (68 year old) Dad, who went into hospital at the start of November, with a bad chest infection that he'd let get worse for a few weeks.

This, coupled with his COPD from smoking, basically stuffed him right up, but he refused to let us get him a doctor because he's too proud. In the end, he had a stroke - and it was then that we basically said "Right, fuck this "no help" lark, you're going to hospital."

He came home last week (and has gone straight back on to smoking like a chimney ), hope your Grandad recovers equally well :)

Looks like he's not going to get better. He's in a semi-conscious state and we've been told it's just a matter of time. Waiting for the phone call now. :(

He's still with us and has had "a comfortable night". Whether or not this means he'll recover is another thing.

My son has to go in for an op to remove a cist just above his eye.

He has had it since birth and is old enough to operate, unfortunately he needs an MRI and general anastethic...

Cough. All the best Kovacs, I'm sure it'll go fine.

I've been present at a few operations where they administer the anasthetic and do the intubation. It's a bit spooky and tense to watch but completely routine for the anaesthetist so don't worry about it!

That's rubbish that.

I attended 4 face to face interviews last year, got the job then was told that they didn't have enough work on so delayed it till this April.

Still haven't heard anything back from them though.

@Malabar -- I'll get detailed feedback tomorrow, apparently.

@Trooper -- my boss left in work last week, so I'm inline for a promotion where I am; that's likely to also lead to a three month notice period in my new contract. Mixed blessing; more money, but I did want to escape. I have no other leads right now (indeed, I turned down a semi-promising one a month ago because I was waiting on this really-want-this-one job).

@Craster -- I did tons of prep, too. Which is irksome.
