The catalog stuff in Lightroom is the thing I hate most about it. Particularly the fact that it won't let you keep the catalogue file on a network share.

Oh, well then it's useless to me. All of my files are now on the NAS.

Files on the NAS is fine - but it makes you keep the index files local.

Aw! Sad meerkat* is sad. Love those toadstools, Bobby - your phone managed to bring the reds out very nicely.

*It is a meerkat, isn't it?

Here's a rather bizarre shot of Mr Sandwich Thief during another abortive raid at the weekend. Hiiiiiyaaaaah!

Do they know that's a plague cross on the side there?

I like Mr Sandwich Thief as it is, imo with a lot of out door shots if your eye is drawn to the subject matter then it's ok if the rest of the picture gives you room to breath.

It's already cropped quite a bit, as it was a split-second snap taken from a distance, so any more cropping would probably start to show up pixellation, unfortunately.

I love the pic, but I find the not-quite-a-square crop a bit distracting. Malc, I'd urge you to add just a few extra pixels onto the left and right to square it off.

Disagree. The shape of the frame makes it look more like the bird has an upright posture and is swooping. I think it would look worse square.

tamron 18-250 Test shots.

250mm f/8 1/160 sec. was blown out and fixed in view NX

Image

250mm f/7.1 1/160 needed a faster speed but it flew off before I had chance to change.

Image

Did some more test shots, and from this short(ish) test I think it's fine at high speeds, it's quite soft at the long end but not in a oof unpleasant way and it's fixable with sharpening in post. The colours are very nice and the bokeh is made of cream even at f /8 when taken at the minimum focusing distance.

No more camera gubbins for me, I am saving as I'm all focused on America now (HA! Just realised the unintentional pun, truly I am a wit) but if I spot an 18-55mm in Pittsburgh cheap I'll get that, as I could do with something for the landscapes. (Or pitifully beg to borrow my old one off the friend I sold it to.)

Kenko tubes look neat.

Those are great shots, Decca - looks like a good lens. The portrait of your daughter is excellent.
Z - that scorpion fly... thing is truly terrifying! Nicely done!*

Tell me that's his tail and not his cock.

Quite happy with this one - the focus was so good it stood up to the quite tight crop very well indeed.

Did you use a tripod for that shot, Malc? I can never get such clear shots like that hand-held, and lugging a tripod around always seems to make it harder to catch insects "in the act."

//edit : Duh. I can't read names.

Yeah, really well caught, Malc.

Name your species plz (am I the only one with OCD of bugs names? I can't help but find out what they are once I've snapped them)

where the blazes is my  smilie?

Red arrows are back on for today

edit: my mum works at chatsworth, and a perk is that we never have to pay any fees there. My dad loves walking past the queues, flashing his pass at the entrance people (who have seen him 9000 times before) and then stepping though the staff gate. (I'm sure he has "I'm just like a policeman with my badge" going through his head when he does it)

The Red Arrows perform at The Chatsworth county fair on September 2nd 2011 at their first display after their diamond flyer Flight Lieutenant Jon “Eggman” Egging was tragically killed when his Hawk T1 crashed after a display in Bournemouth on August 20

They left his position in the formation blank.
