Gave it a quick go but it seems impossible without a proper joystick :(

Ok, I get it. You collect the shiney shiney while avoiding the scenery which is destructable but constantly being restored by the white circles. You have to complete each area of the map and then you'll get another map. Repeat until mashed up Zaphod's score...

EDIT: I've been playing all the games on my laptop keyboard!

Yip thats it - I played my first few games trying to shoot out the scenery and wondering why my total at the end was zero ...... between levels is a survival wave where if you stay alive you earn an extra life and i've actually just played this with keyboard because i've been too lazy to connect up anything else.

Oh OK, yeah I was just shooting stuff.

First and last go as I'm not likely to get into it now :)

The music is pretty good.

You need to put your score in brackets (less than / greater than) for it to show on the scoreboard

And onto the final week - Action Biker is an unusual game in that it started life as an early budget title (in Mastertronic's 1.99 range)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Biker

Image

Quote:
Action Biker (also known as "KP Skips Action Biker with Clumsy Colin" in the UK) is a 1985 game for 8-bit home computers released by Mastertronic. The game was a tie-in with snack food KP Skips, whose mascot was "Clumsy Colin" who featured in television adverts for Skips at around the time the game was published.
[edit] Gameplay

The player controls the protagonist Clumsy Colin who rides a motorbike and has to navigate a landscape to extra equipment to improve the bike. Once all pieces are collected the player performs a final race against a computer controlled character. There is a time limit, and the player also has a limited number of lives reduced by crashing into background objects.

The Atari and Commodore 64 versions feature an isometric view of the town, which wraps around at the edges. The Spectrum has a different viewpoint.

There are several key areas to the map - the petrol station (where the player can refuel), the lakes (including an island that is initially inaccessible), the rollercoaster (which can be ridden on the C64 and Atari versions) and the building site (which changes shape as the game progresses).

Among the extras collected are a new gearbox (allowing the player to switch to low gear for higher acceleration), water-skis (to allow the player to cross water) and a larger fuel tank.

In general - ride around until you find the flashing square to pick up , pick it up and then get the next one - the first square is out onto the main road and 'up' (top right) , then if you go back to your starting point and behind the petrol station you'll find the next

Actually - a quick google and heres the overall map with the pieces you need to collect

So, if I want to win, I've got to beat Zaphod by 7 points (ie finish 2nd and have him finish 7th or worse, or finish first and have him finish 5th or worse) and to beat Ian by 2 points.

You can still win the individual week :-)

BTW hint from playing this last night - your 'rear' wheel is the pick up point for the items- so make sure that goes over it to collect.

Something to start you off with. That map didn't help a jot!

I've got a good idea that the map is much much smaller than you initially think it is. No idea how many pick ups I managed to find but it might have been about 9 or 10.

Do we think the map should be removed to deter cheaters?

It is small and loops around.

Thing is there are plenty online and the way i used to play it in the past was writing down where things were and when you got to the last one you knew there was a lot of time spent just driving round trying to find the next one - the map does away with that part of the gameplay - but is anyone really just going to drive around the place looking for where the next part is ?

okay i'll agree - the map is dangerous , as really there are only about 4 hard to get items (roller coaster centre and the far end of the construction site) and so - 30 years after starting the game I collected the 40'th part and got

So i lined up , waiting for the "other" racers to arrive , and waited , and nothing happened so i thought i might not be on the grid correctly , so drove off and back around to find the little red square had actually turned green , so i raced up the track and

That was it - the game ended.

I know we're spoiled by game endings and cutscenes but it was rather underwhelming

I decided against using the map, so just pootled around looking the pick-ups.

Congratulations!

Sorry about disappearing like that, my hard drives decided to commit suicide rather than be subjected to another round of IK. :(

I tried Action Biker CC on the real C64, but I couldn't make head or tail of it.

Congrats Zaphod!

I'd have kicked your ass had I given Boulderdash and IK+ more time. Grrr. Next time!
