Some fucking mong at work who I had been pestering and reminding (not copying in one of the directors as someone suggested though because it seemed a bit of a cunty thing to do) for some data *by email* just organised a meeting, forgot to invite me and then tried to blame me for not getting the thing done that relied entirely on his data. I forwarded the whole exchange on to my boss who is now furious on my behalf.

Yes. :p

Those are actually really interesting. I rescued an old one from the library before it was chucked out a few years back, and among other things, it includes a condensed history of the UK that users are quizzed on. Any immigrant who's actually read and remembered even half of that will know more about the country's history than about 95% of natives.

Heh, I love this...It's like people think that because they delete an email they don't want to read, it is erased from existence. No, mongo, it's not. Especially if it's something that can later used to beat them with/show everyone else they are dick/back up what you're saying...you can bet it will be treasured, always.

I am getting really quite sick of some of the people at this job. How about this for a crazy notion: if you're paid massive amounts of money to make important decisions, why not try sticking with a decision for once, instead of constantly fucking contradicting yourself just so you can make us look bad when we follow your own bloody instructions?

Easter holidays soon, girls and boys! :) What are you all up to? I know a few of you are taking advantage of the 3 days leave for 11 days off, thing and there are a lot of bank holidays for those who aren't taking extra time off....So what do you do with your time?

I think I'm going to make a bogey (go-kart) with the boys. I was also thinking about starting a blog about all the anti H&S stuff we, and older generations, used to get up to and do them with the boys. This was partly inspired by a friend of mine who got talking to an old gent in the hospital in Preston, he's 75 and he was sat there naked from the waist down, telling her how he born at the foot of Everest and was a goatherd practically from when he could walk.

This got me thinking about how sterile life is now and how we smother children and protect them from everything. We must bleach every surface in the house, you can't even touch the top of the soap dispenser anymore! Don't let the kids ride their bikes, don't let them cross the road, don't let them eat dirt and find out it tastes awful, don't let them set fire to stuff or mix all the stuff under the sink to see what happens or play frisbee with plates. What are they going to be able to tell their children? "Yeah, I completed Halo 3 on Legendary in, like, 3hrs. And I maxed out the cheevos on GTA..blah blah blah".

They're becoming a generation of people with no common sense, who are immune to nothing and get sick when they so much as look at a dirty surface, their little imaginations are being squished and where are their cool scars!?

So...yeah, I'm going to teach them about all the stuff we used to do before xboxes and the internet. It'll be ace! And hopefully, we'll get some scars and stuff while having bad, dirty, misadventurous, fun. I might be writing in the 'Nay' thread next month about how social services have taken my children away...

For £4.50 and a bottle of Jack, I'll be the screaming weirdo at the bus stop for 2 days.

They need to learn to deal with this kind of thing, see.

I think I might have some old lead based paint in the shed you can use for their toys.

Also, I've just found out that explaining to concept of the Office Grand National Sweepstake to a foreigner is surprisingly hard. Why don't they do things the same way as us abroad? It would make things easier.

With Grim mentioning that GPOYW should have a theme, I did think that would make a good one for next week. The scars that is, not dirty surfaces.

Heh. Reminds me of working at canterbury cathedral once. A Spanish tourist with limited English (and me with even more limited Spanish) was asking what 'jousting' was.

"Two knights..."

"¿Que?"

"On horses..."

"¿Que?"

"With lances..."

"¿Que?"

"... it's a bit like football."

"¡Oh! ¡Fútbol!"

"Yes. More or less."

Oooh, when did you work at Canterbury Cathedral? A friend of mine worked there for a few years in the late 90s.

Before my time, sadly. I was only there about seven years ago.

Jesus, it was as well. Man. I was so young. :'(

Here here. I let mine play about outside, climb trees and so on and they are rarely ill. I would much rather they be outside getting dirty playing with the dogs than inside destroying my house.
For the holidays I discovered that Rotherham has the most amazing park today. It has playgrounds, and a mini amusement park with bumper cars and so on so from now on we will be going up there A Lot as it's only half an hour away on the train (with the rail card about £5 return for all of us). Also Kittens. Pictures incoming when the children are in bed because it's going to be a surprise. They are utterly "dawww"

I'd probably agree - if it's not voluntary, it's pretty much taxation. Not saying that it only has value if it's voluntary though - tax pays for all sorts of awesome stuff.

Watching the original star wars theater release edition and the thought occurs that it actually looks less dated than the touched up versions, plus that odd blue tinge isn't there nor is that shockingly bad Jabba scene and Han shot first.

I have a friend with a bad habit of leaving cities very shortly before major disasters.

I'm more than a little suspicious.

Wonder if he warned them first so they could do a backup. What a lovely chap he is.
