This is going to make a lot of you turn your snobby noses up, but I'm looking at getting a Clio 182 next year.

Buy an old MX5. I guaran-fucking-tee you it'll be more fun and save you an absolute shitload of cash, heck you could even put a supercharger on it and still have thousands in change.

It's not all about fun. I've had to strike a compromise with the missus. She wants something with four seats that she can do the shopping with, but I wanted something that's a bit more fun than what we've got now. Not overly bothered about reliability issues as neither of us rely on a car to get to work.

We had a Clio before (1.6 Dynamique) and both loved it, so it's the perfect compromise, really.

Buy this for Ange - you can't get much more shopping space than that. Then spend the shedloads of cash you'll have left over on something quicker (although that's fairly quick).

I'm not buying Ange a 4x4 - she can barely park a medium-sized car. Plus I'd say a little prayer every day for everyone else who had to share the roads with her.

Mojiiiiiiiito.

In fairness, listen to Kalmar. There's not a more manly sound than the whine of a flat-out electric motor as it hurtles past at 36mph.

Everything got in the car, I just had to drop half of the rear seats and stick the board in diagonally, and even then there was a small bit of the nose of the board just to the left of MrsA's shoulder. However, one can transport 3 people to the beach and back with everything that is needed inside the car (not on top as that's not what the cool kids do, as you can't leave your stuff and go to the pub, then).

Removing central locking computeryboardthing and soldering a wire between two pins (so it thinks the doors are closed all the time) has not solved the central locking problem. Could be the solenoids, apparently.

Estates are normally no longer than their saloon brethren.
You've got roof bars - can't you fit it to that?

No modern estates are longer, about 70mm longer in the insignia....

Edit Insignia
Hatchback 4830mm
Estates 4908mm

I could do, but I chose not to. I'd rather have it inside, than on the roof. It does fit inside, but diagonally, so there's a lot of wasted space.

That's less than 3 inches. I can assure you they have the same chassis and seat / body fixings.

Yeah, 3 inches would be accounted for in remodelling the rear bumpers probably.

I've got all the racks and bike holders to carry my mountain bike on teh roof of our wagon, but I always put it inside if I can - though with me it's more to do with forgetting it's there, driving down the M4 at >90mph and wondering why I'm getting about 15mpg when I get to Wales.

No, the cool kids buy some 35 year old VW camper van rust bucket that then breaks down on the M5.

None taken. I didn't buy it myself.

I'd have probably done a bit of research into whether I could fit something into my car which was the sole reason for buying it, though.

It fits, just.

Out of the bag, it would be fine.

I'm having second thoughts about acquiring a longboard, though, as I'd have to tilt the front passenger seat all the way back and then slide it in lengthways, rather than the diagonal. The fact the current board didn't fit as well as I thought amused me some.

So, filling station etiquette.
I rarely visit petrol stations, and when I do it's never at commuting times, and anyway I'd be going to the gas pump which is typically way over at the side incase it explodes or something. So I may be out of step with the current etiquette, ad I call on your guidance.

I happened to be driving a van today and had to fill it at the normal pumps. I pull in distractedly as someone leaves and start filling. As I do so I hear a loud voice shout "Yeah, it must be great jumping the queue" or something like that. I peer around the pump and can see an angry biker on like a harley davidson thing, parked in the middle of the entrance area to the pumps. He doesn't seem to be looking in my direction but I have a nasty feeling I've just sailed right past him to the empty pump. The rest are busy. There's a car queuing behind him.
Ooops, my bad I think, and carry on.
Then "Why don't you wait your turn" I hear. He's definitely shouting at someone else now, a woman who's apparently just done the same thing. She starts shouting back that he aught to go forwards then. There is a small commotion.
The car that actually is waiting behind him now gets fed up and drives around to the pump. Man gets extremely angry.

What do you do there though? Go straight to the nearest queue or wait quite far back for a pump to become free?

Is Harley Man right (but still a bit of a tit, obviously)?

If they are parked in such a place that they can get to the pump easily, I'd say it's queue jumping.

If they've stuffed themselves up by parking too close to the car in front of them and can't manouevre around to the free pump, then fuck 'em.

Ford focus'll take three people and a couple of surfboards, as I discovered this week to my great pleasure. Admittedly I couldn't use the left wing mirror, but travel and happy water paddling assured. Stuff the estate, man.

I'd grow some balls and just go to the queue for the row of pumps I wished to use. I'm not queuing as the middle aged woman and stupid people don't realise it doesn't matter one jot which side of the pump your car is. Always amazes me to watch people look on in horror as I extend the hose to reach around my car.

What? I don't understand that question at all. Either someone is queueing at the pump and you just ran them over, or they were queueing at another pump and it's their loss.

The shouter was a biker? Of all the people who shouldn't have trouble beating a van to a pump it's them, surely? Sour grapes.

If I roll onto the court and straight to a pump, I will. That happens a lot because so many people insist on waiting for one that matches the filling side of their car, instead of saving 5-10 minutes by stretching the hose over/around.
