Aw i didn't realise there were only five series, I might have to try and slow down watching it to make it last a wee bit longer. The Shield is another one I have to watch. I loved how in The Wire they weren't afraid to have gay characters which is such a small detail but is so rare to see. Especially in a show about drug dealers and cops.

I just found out that Nevada are making gay unions legal from October....a plan is forming.

That's lucky. I'm off to Vegas in October to get married. This way if Maria has a sex change before then we've not wasted the trip!

:D

Also, Omar Little is a legend.

I think it was DBSnappa that called The Shield, 'The Wire on amphetamines'. I haven't seen The Wire yet, so I can't comment.

If I wasn't clear before: WATCH THE SHIELD. Vic Mackie is the best-crafted, most well-portrayed good/bad character ever created.

Meh. Stringer Bell ftw!

That said, I've not watched 'The Shield'.

Yeah, good luck ;)

I don't remember which season it was, but the one where they…

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
… go behind higher people's backs to shift all drug sales through to one section of the city…

… was one of the best bits of TV ever for me. It was an absolutely brilliant season.

The Wire > The Shield. Although the Shield is very good.

@Duds - Those listed are the ones I've finished watching, unfortunately.

I would love to go to Las Vegas, I hope you take lots of pictures to show us. I watched 21 last night and it reminded me how much I want to go. I will have to investigate further I think.

There are no gays in space? Are there pretty ladies for me to perv on at least?

Stringer Bell was cool, but Omar was AWESOME.

S3, I believe. I'd say that was the high point, too.

@Malabar Season three I think...and yes you are right, that is awesome. Although when I try to choose a favourite series I just end up saying, 'season one was brilliant. Oh but remember season two? It was brilliant. oh and season three was brilliant.'

As much as I enjoyed The Shield I'd still describe it as a cop show, it isn't really all that far removed from Hill Street Blues for example. I wouldn't call The Wire a cop show, although the policing of the city stays central each series tackles a different subject, politics, media, education etc.

I loved them all, but season 3 (if you and Craster are right) was my high point.

Season 2 was weird to begin with, seeing as just when I'd got into the whole thing and learned the characters, the whole thing was turned on its head and unfamiliar again. Brilliant stuff.

It was great to see the whole thing go back to the towers for season 3 though, and for the rest. Some truly great characters there, and it was sad to see even the bad ones go.

Oh, it is a cop show, but my point was that it was so much more as well (I usually find cop shows bore me to tears). Some of the story arcs were just superb.

I haven't seen The Wire, so wasn't commenting on that.

:this: Also, Gaeta snogged Hoshi in one of the webisodes between season 4 and season 4.5. They have a tender moment early in 4.5 which made no sense at all until I knew that.

I will have a wee look for The Shield tonight and if I like the first series then I will buy a boxset.
I had a wee look to see if i could purchase BSG in the same way but it wasn't really available. Also, i really want to own the boxset. I have series 4 of The L Word still to watch as well but it annoys me. It has some of the worst writing ever and the only reason it is still going is because there are no other shows for gay people.

A mate of mine's just seen S2 and loved it. I said to him that it was my least favourite series of The Wire, but that it had some great moments - McNulty spending most of an episode dicking about with tidal charts to screw his old boss, Frank's final scene, Prez decking his father-in-law, everything with Brother Mazone, McNulty undercover at the brothel, Ziggy's duck (chicken?), McNulty crashing his car then backing up another go, Omar on the witness stand... and then I suddenly realised "Hang on a minute, Season 2 was brilliant."

Like Craster, I really liked The Shield. The season with Forrest Whittaker was just unbearably tense, thirteen episodes that felt like walking a tightrope. And there's scene with Dutch interrogating a suspect and looking like he's completely fouling it up while the strike team are watching and laughing on the video when all of a sudden Dutch springs the trap he's been setting up and in the space of three questions he gets a confession. That completely rocked my FACE. But The Wire's in a completely different league. It's almost a different sport.

I couldn't pick a favourite series of The Wire, other than 'probably not S5'.

My favourite bit of all the series was probably the bit where (REALLY do not read this if you intend to watch 'The Wire'):

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Avon and Stringer are talking to one another about where they came from, and what they had planned to do, each of them having just double crossed the other.

One of my favourite scenes from anything, ever.

Stop talking about great shows I haven't seen before I have to commit hundreds of hours of my life to them. Rodafowa and The Rev are particularly bad at infecting me with second hand enthusiasm. It's going to cost me a copy of FUEL you know.

It definitely picks up again. Series 7 is excellent, and has an unexpected twist.

I'm looking forward to re-watching it for exactly this sort of reason - there's a load of stuff you miss or forget in S1 and S2 until you've tuned into it properly (well, for me anyway).

The Shield's absolutely bloody brilliant, though I never saw the last couple of seasons. Not as good as The Wire, but that's hardly damning it.

I haven't seen any of series five of House, which is awful because I am very aware of what Olivia Wilde is getting up to. I kept getting hot flushes last week whenever the advert came on...Kings of Leon playing whilst she stared straight into the camera....
oh my, I think I may have to go lie down.

I don't fancy her [13]. I don't know why. I just don't.

I prefer Cuddy, and I don't understand that, either.

I had a bit of a soft spot for Cuddy as well but 13 has overtaken that. I wasn't too bothered by her when she was gaying it up in The OC but I just love her in House. Admittedly, I am quite free with my crushes.

I've only seen about two episodes of House but I sense it's the sort of thing you could use as the basis for quite a debilitating drinking game. Bit like Columbo in that respect.
