I still really like it as a browser, though. Even when they had the awful bug of making this forum and the BBC web site into a big grey box I still used it.

I don't think I've ever used any other browser feature as much as Chrome's drag-a-tab-out-of-the-browser-and-create-a-new-window one.

Finally getting around to claiming on my insurance for my gear, and dug the muddy bin-bag out of my wardrobe. It's the first time I've looked at the state of it all since I was cut out of it at the road-side.

I hit a badger on Saturday night. It was already dead. Had to aim to get it under the middle of the car as swerving would have been dangerous.

Made an awful racket as it went under the car at 70MPH. I pictured Craster crying for a good 10 minutes afterwards*.

* I have no idea what Craster looks like, but I imagined him to look like Roland from Grange Hill.

Nearly. He's a ginger bearded Roland but he doesn't wear glasses anymore as he got laser surgery with all the smack cash he made from Zammo.

I'm know I'm late to the party, and I know we've had this discussion before, but dear God, don't do this.
I just did some googling, came across a few pro-home-birth sites.

Quote:
You will need to transfer to hospital if you want an epidural or there are complications, although there is usually time to discuss this decision. (One study showed that about 40% of first- time mothers needed to transfer, and about 10% of women expecting their second or subsequent baby)

Quote:
The truth is that actually today, women are healthier, live to a better standard and most of all receive excellent care through all their pregnancy. All of this, along with improvement in technology, has contributed to make homebirth as safe, if not safer than hospital for women having a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy.

Quote:
All of life involves some risk, and this applies to giving birth and being born, wherever the birth takes place. At home there is always the possibility, no matter how small, of a tragic complication which could have been more effectively dealt with in hospital. Parents choosing home birth will consider and come to terms with that risk, knowing that the risk of unnecessary interventions and the possibility of damage to the mother or baby, or both, may be far greater in hospital.

Hospital birth also increases the risk of the emotional/psychological disruption of being in an unfamiliar institution. It is well documented that other mammals, when disturbed in their nests in labour or moved to unfamiliar surroundings, have longer labours with more complications. Entering hospital undermines a woman's need to feel safe, secure and in familiar surroundings. This in turn interferes with her ability to relax and ultimately give herself up to the experience of birth. This 'letting go' - the ability to respond to a deep, instinctive knowledge of how to give birth to your baby - is an important part of letting the birth process unfold a smoothly and safely as possible.
What a load of weaselly worded bullshit. "Usually" time to discuss? "Uncomplicated" births? "Risk of unnecessary interventions"?

I'm a rubbish person to talk to about this, as 99% of the time that's all true, and everything goes fine, and it's all nice.
But when the Grimlet decided to try and kill himself there wasn't even time to get Mrs Grim... into the room next door to hack her open.
I don't begrudge people their right to choose how to have their baby born, but I think home births should make shit like that clear.

I really don't understand the mentality of it all. I figure the conversation goes like this:

Doctor McOfficial: Hello! I hear you are having a baby!

Parents: That's right! I have a giant growth inside me and it's going to come forcing it's way out! Tearing my vagina open and making me defecate myself in the process!

Doc: Cool, wanna hang at mine? I've got like super awesome tech-mol-ogy and space science that can cope with almost any problem! AND I've got loads of mates who are really into childbirth and will totally help out. They've dedicated their lives to it. They'll totally look after you.

Parents: Nah, thanks for the offer and that but I think what we are going to do is not bother leaving our home a good number of miles from people like you. We think it's for the best.

Bagged myself a refurbished Panasonic DVD/VHS player at half the retail price on Ebay at the second time of asking. The company has 3 for sale (each ending one day apart). Some bugger sniped me with 5 seconds to go last night so I returned the favour to some poor sod tonight.

I've wanted a VHS with a timebase corrector in it for ages so I'm cock-a-hoop.

That is why we are going to the birthing unit, if there are any problems we will go to the main hospital

Get bag of crisps, eat crisps, sneak up behind her, blow up the bag and pop it very loudly.

It might not work, but then at the very least you'll have had some crisps.

Our daughter was late and even when HC's waters broke there was a protracted 14 hours before Carys decided to grace us with her presence. I came to the conclusion on wholly non empirical evidence that all first children are late. I know it sucks, but be patient grasshopper. The alternative is the frankly sinister celeb routine of elective C section one month early to avoid all the fat issues and to make recovery of the figure a speedy process above and beyond any long term consequences for your fashion acces... sorry, child.

Heh, if only. First Born was induced early as Mrs C had bad pre-eclampsyia. Second Born was trying to get out a week early too.

No idea if FB would have come out on time or late if left to his own devices, though. Given his propensity for getting up at 5.15am I suspect early. :)
