I never really understood the majority of the fuss over these things until I read yesterday that some people do really think that scientists may inadvertently create a black hole in one of them.

Not being in any way scientifically minded, I do not even know if it is even theoretically possible, but the notion made me chuckle, then a little nervous, but then chuckle more.

What isn't clear from the photos is that Comical's reason for the trip is because he was invited by scientists at CERN who, having read his blog, want to see if they can find the Higgs Boson by colliding particles with his FURIOUS ANGER.

You know, as a back up plan.

This could lead to potentially interesting effects. If Comical comes back from the trip green and with torn clothing, we know what happened.

I reject any suggestion that I was fucking with the LHC.

Nor did I interfere with any of the scientists working on the project.

Official email that went out about the incident:

Quote:
Dear Friends,

We are sorry to inform you that
during the commissioning of the final LHC sector (sector 3-4) for 5 TeV operation, an incident occurred at 12:05 today resulting in a large helium leak into the tunnel. Further details are not yet known. Investigations will continue over the weekend and more information will be made available as soon as possible.

The availability of these spoof-sabotage photos shows an almost prescient knowledge of the coming failures.

Hang on!

Question 1 - The CERN machine broke the other day. Is this because you smashed it in a furious rage?

Question 2 - Did you find a way to harness the power of the machine to channel your anger.

Yes, but goddamn expensive. I am the poor.

No :)

No, but I no longer wonder what the button marked 'Emergency Helium Release' does now.

Sadly not, although it turns out I can be used to get protons up to speed before sending them along the 27km circle.

It was all round pretty awesome. The pics of the control room are from the ATLAS project, and everything was very fancy and unspeakably complicated-looking. There are a few more pics, if anyone is particularly arsed I'll make them available. I have a couple of videos too :)

I must make a massive fucking complaint. I bought a CERN mug (£6). I tried to make a cup of tea in my CERN mug, but it made a pinging noise and cracked! I'm sure it wasn't damaged during the flight, so I can only assume these mugs are so shoddily made that boiling water makes them crack and split!

No wonder the LHC is broken, they can't even make mugs that withstand standard temperatures. What a waste of precious cash. :/

Old thread Lazarus act!:

You went to CERN? Cool. Mugs can 'ping' if they're too cold when you put the water in. The missus is fond of 'warm cordial' and I've 'pinged' a few mugs straight from the (cold, cold) cupboard.

But, but, but.... CERN? Do they have segways for getting around? Do they have henchmen in boiler suits and white helmets? As you can see, I imagine CERN as a Bond villain lair.

Blimey chap you must be bored, are you slowly consuming all previous threads?

Aye, I went to CERN. The aforementioned mate I went to visit is coming to visit me in a couple of weeks for my b'day. He plans to take my pinged mug back with him and negotiate for a free replacement. Shoddy physicists.

I daren't use my Gundam Mug I bought in Japan in case I damage it.

Might start using it at Christmas. It's red.

This is what it looks like:

but it's 3d in real life.

Huh. I've had approximately infinite cups of tea since I was about six, and this only happens when the mug's already knackered and has a hairline (or bigger) crack it. Clearly, you have some kind of endothermo-cupboards.

Also, £6 for a mug, eh? Can I do my "you have to be one to buy one" gag now?
