I like this Discovery I park by in the week.
Now I know the limp mode won't be costing me anything thanks to my 1337 mechanical skillz, I'm now going to spend the imaginary money I would have given to the garage on a remap. I've mentioned this to my wife and she hasn't hit me.

Just need the imaginary money I haven't spent to become real money first though.

I assume you're going to a good BMW independent garage, not a main dealer, and using black circles?
Yeah BMW specialists but I just got them to do the lot, you're right I should have done the tyres separately, it would have been about sixty odd quid cheaper.
I've just shelled out £200 for new doorstraps and £185 for a new cat (that hasn't been fitted yet). Add in £400 for a new clutch, £150 for new lambda sensors (which didn't fix the issue), £80 for a new ABS sensor and £200 for new front tyres and it's been an expensive first 10 months of owning this car.
Fucking cars. Although trying to be philosophical this car has been good to me so far, not really gone wrong in any expensive kind of way so if it keeps it ticking along for another couple of years with an oil change in between it's not too bad.
Yeah, scant consolation now of course, but Man-Maths(tm) says divide the cost over the total no. of months you're planning on keeping the car (or miles travelled). I'm guiltier than most in doing this.

That said, though, all cars seem to hit a certain age when everything seems to start fucking up at once. I know the feeling...
£175 for Rover since May and a Vauxhall bounced off the front of it.

It was a special deal I was offered on a lease of a Fiesta ST-3. About the same price as the ST-2 normally.

The Rav4 is running properly now.

Cost of repairs since buying it £1600. (Turbo recondition, MAF sensor, New solenoids, complete engine flush at Diesel Engine specialists, removal of CUNTING sheared off locking FUCKING wheelnuts, etc.)

It had better do us proud for a few years worth of motoring / camping trips to pay us back.

Correct. Also after two years I'd have paid out a guaranteed £7249.50 on the Fiesta. I'm hoping my second year of Civic ownership is a fair bit cheaper than £4000.
The Subarhubarb has had about £1k in past 12 months (belts, clutch, heater control, oil filter) and the header pipes have begun to blow.

I have deferred to 'the man' and as such I don't know. I think it was front driver last time and maybe front offside this time?

It's £77 to replace it and the £50 for wheel alignment. As I have no idea about these things I have just signed the piece of paper they put in front of me and they're working on it now.
Offside is the driver's side.

Nearside is "near" to the kerb.
Doesn't seem right busting a new spring in that space of time. 'Shit happens' with cars though.

BUT!

Tell the man that he put a shit spring on and that he'll damn well replace it for free.

Well my car definitely feels a grand better now, the new pollen filter especially has transformed it.
Actually the tyres do feel loads better, they put on the Bridgestones that BMW use.
I'm tempting myself to buy a new car, getting quotes through carwow.
The sensible option is just to pay the balloon payment on the PCP, but.....

I don't think it was the same spring that busted, I think it was the one on the other side. Would just seem odd that when the first one went last year that they wouldn't replace both at the same time, but perhaps they didn't think to tell me that they often go in pairs due to being the same age.

Either way it's sorted now, and no longer sounds like I have a load of metal tent poles rattling around the car.

One time I took a car in because the clutch pedal was sticking every time I pressed it, and they diagnosed it as car mat stuck under pedal.

Fortunately it was in for other reasons as well*, and I just happened to mention that as another symptom on top, so it wasn't too embarrassing!

My wife once took her car into the garage as every time she turned right there was a massive THUNK at the back. The mechanic gave it a good look over around the rear wheels / struts etc and couldn't find anything wrong. When I got home I had a look myself and found my skateboard in the boot.
