'Smile'. I dreaded this one from the trailers as it struck me as the kind of 'let's reference contemporary society in a way that will date it quickly'. It grew on me, and I enjoyed the unfolding of the mystery although the resolution could have been better handled. It did strike me as being in part a homage to the classic series as I think I identified three or more sections that would have been a whole half-hour with cliffhanger had this been in the 1980s.

Not the best episode ever, but then, not the worst. Definitely a solid 73%. Most memorable bit? The robots' 'kill! kill! kill!' face.

Really enjoying Bill as companion, and her relationship with Capaldi. He seems revitalised now he's freed up from being overshadowed in every episode (story-wise) by Clara, and it's nice that they're doing simple, fun stories where everything isn't about how someone is the Chosen One and Most Important.

Her character has a sense of wonder about the possibilities of the Tardis and the Doc that I've not felt a character's had since Rose a very long time ago which is vey infectious. Also, loved the exchange about the Doc's accent.

Quite possibly my favourite line from any sci-fi show ever.

I don't think we're ever going to recreate the buzz of the 2005 series, unless the show goes on another extended holiday and gets revived with such panache. Been a while since I re-watched that series; might get round to it at some point.

You probably should start with the Name of the Doctor if you want all of Hurt's appearances. (S7E13).

I'm thinking 'Night of the Doctor' -> 50th -> 2005 series onwards -> 'Name of the Doctor' would make more sense as it's then about the Doc trying to avoid dealing with it. But would you then have to rewatch the 50th for completeness?
ie - see the 50th first time round as a John Hurt story, not a Smith/Tennant one?
