Good good. In that case, get it open ;)

(my Collector's Edition of Colonial Marines for the PC (with the powerloader action figure) remains unopened and in it's shrinkwrap - although that's more my commentary on the game itself :P)

You kidding? I have sealed and open copies of nearly everything Alien related - even AvP on the 360, for God's sake.

I have three of these.

Sort of but the cards are probably different in each. I'd just open all of them.

I busted that open because I wanted the loader on my shelf at work.

In fact - here he is:

This sort of thinking is the reason I own three copies of an Alien poster book (because they are double-sided).

"Stephani Danelle Perry has written numerous Resident Evil tie-in novels, as well as an in-universe Alien title." a flawless pedigree.

She wrote the novelisations of Aliens: Labyrinth and The Female War, that's a decent pedigree IMO.

This new book is supposedly similar to the fap-worthy Colonial Marines Technical Manual.

Co-wrote them, with Steve Perry, but yeah, The Female War is easily the best book.

PRORDERED!

Quick lurker post...

Audible have a new audio dramatisation of an Alien based novel(la)

http://www.audible.co.uk/pd/Sci-Fi-Fant ... B01D0FHRQQ

"As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey."

....with Rutger Hauer, so it must be good right ? seems pretty good 1hr in.

it appears there may be versions available at your [local library]

Didn't see this post. I bought a copy of this book a few months ago when I saw it in Waterstones but haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Never really got into audiobooks though, for me they're like video tutorials - unnecessarily annoying, as I can't go at my own pace.

It's not an audiobook, it's an "audio drama".

I might give it a go, even though the book was shit.

I was going to say there's a remarkable lack of Covenant talk around here. I rewatched Prometheus the other day and it was better than I remember. Still some annoying things, but not terrible.

I felt much the same way about it. At the cinema, it all looked great, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, but watching it a second time, it's not bad at all. Although that Scottish woman's acting still grated

A new trailer has dropped. Looking promising, if a little redolent of the original Alien. But that's no bad thing. It's on all the usual sites...

I rewatched Prometheus recently (after only seeing it at the cinema) and was very surprised to find that I enjoyed it a lot the second time around.

I'm not entirely sure why that is.

Maybe. There's plenty of sweet-ass bits, though. The whole thing with the two engineers being cut off and having to spend the night in the structure was superb.

It always seemed to me that they took a great explicitly 'Alien' film and cut and chopped it until they had a confusingly mediocre 'not-Alien, honest' film. There are some really good ideas in there. And Charlize in tight clothes.

Read the original script, before they buggered about with it. It'll fully restore your disappointment with the film, and add 25% FFS! on top.

Silliness of the characters aside, what makes Prometheus great is the spectacle. Scott is one of those directors who builds sets and tries to direct as much of the action in camera as opposed to green screen and cgi. I've watched Prometheus about three times now, I know it has many shonky moments, but I've always enjoyed it. One of the criticisms of it that never made any sense to me was how Charline Theron dies at the end, as that engineer ship (at least according to Alien and the shot when they first enter it), is at least 100 feet wide if not more (it looks about 10 storeys high in Alien) and she'd need to be pretty fucking quick to get out of it's way.

this is out soon. Who wants to see it at imax? Either Sarfbank or Leicester Sq?

I think DoccyG has a couple of hours of unpaid overtime pending, so I'll count him out

Sarfbank is slightly better for me (and it's bigger, right?), but I can do either.

Hmm. It's apparently Alien day, if you do American configuration on the date, then it makes sense. I've read that Fox are going to stream the first 15 mins of Alien: Covenant at 6pm on the official website.
Alienuniverse.com

Don't bother entering any of the competitions as they're US residents only.
