So, yeah:

His most interesting skillset, however, is his ability to hack ctOS, the CenTral Operating System that links just about every piece of technology in Watch Dogs's near-future Chicago. "All of these electronic devices form a complex, powerful network upon which we have become increasingly dependent," Morin explained. "Now imagine one man taking control of that network."

We've seen Aiden manipulate ctOS in two gameplay demos to distract guards, cause traffic accidents, and hijack a train. However, while players are free to abuse the system in any way they wish, their actions will have consequences: collateral damage is tracked by the game's Reputation system. Various actions will have Positive or Negative effects on how people see Aiden as either as a heroic vigilante or a reckless psychopath.

Looks different, at least. And damned pretty.
That looks so so good. Looks to have the potential to be a top notch game. Also reminds me a little of the TV program Person Of Interest.

Wow, that looks awesome! Remember when Mirror's Edge came out and we all said, "why can't all games have this sort movement?" Someone appears to have listened. When is it out?
User avatar
Out in the Autumn.

Looks amazing.

Sounds fantastic
That looks fantastic. Shame it'll be on the 360 and ps3.

I meant that if I want to play it I'll have to buy another bleeding xbox or a ps3, I was kinda hoping I could hold out until the next box.

ahh got ya :D

Going to be saving for a nice PC upgrade myself :D

Did you all know that PC gaming is far superior than any form of console gaming?

My birthday!

Watch Dogs' birthday now.

I will wait for reviews but I'm cautiously optimistic. PS3 version for me means no need to upgrade yet. :)

Seems to be getting 7s and 8s out of tens on the various review sites. Nonetheless I picked it up when I was shopping this morning. Hopefully get a few hours to play later. 40hrs of gameplay apparently, my prediction is that I will never finish it but we'll see.

Also, Happy Birthday trooper!

Eh, the Eurogamer review doesn't make it sound all that good. Like a poor man's GTA with small aspects stapled on from other games. Certainly it doesn't sound like the whole hacking thing is anything but an afterthought which is a bit shit given how much they've talked all that up as a USP. Also: fucking Pipemania mini-game? Really?

No doubt it'll be enjoyable enough, if not anything new or ground-breaking, so I'll likely pick this up further down the line on the PS4 but I'm not exactly rushing towards it.
User avatar
The Escapist review is a lot more positive and I usually find it fairly reliable. The Eurogamer review certainly seems to be very much on the low side of average.
User avatar
Why is hacking always done via some wank pipedreams knock off?

At least make it interesting.

I was expecting "ZOMG ITS SO AWESOMSUMZ" but those scores have really put me off, and I was never that interested in the first place. "8" has always struck me as a score that's just enough to keep the publishers happy and keep the lucrative advertising revenue coming whilst attempting to maintain some journalistic dignity whilst reviewing an average game.

Sounds like a reskinned Assassin's Creed with added Pipe Mania. No ta.

Not with the unanimity of the scores and the actual words reading like the scores on the end. No, I fully expect it to be a lot of fun for someone like me who enjoys sandbox games but not some sort of genre-defining classic.

Although generally I seem to be increasingly finding other people's opinions of how much I should enjoy a game to be worth jack shit. I absolutely loved the 7 or 8 out of 10 Infamous: Second Son. To the point where I completed it twice and gathered up all the trophies etc. Whilst I have played countless 10/10 watershed moments in gaming that were going to change everything and they bored the tits off me after a few hours.

In summary, meh. I always liked the look of this one and nothing I have read in any of the reviews has put me off. I mostly just check reviews to make sure that there's nothing drastically wrong or broken before buying.

I see 7/10 to be, "as good as [AAA title], but the publisher didn't pay as much money."

I always see a 7/10 as a "5/10 with good production values".
User avatar
I always see a 1/10 as a 10/10 with massive character flaws.

Over lunch I put the disc in, watched it install and selected the brightness using a slider until a logo was barely visible. A solid 8/10 so far.
The reviews are ok, I'll be buying at some point over the summer once I've completed Infamous Second Son & got bored of the WiiU.

...and unsurprisingly, uplay is fucked and people can't logon.
I wondered why I couldn't get to uplay last night when i had a quick go on trials.

I have never managed to get on uplay with trials, it just seems to freak out.

You need to login via the PS4 homescreen rather than in game, then it works when you load up.

I think I put some instructions in the trials thread.

The more I play of this the more I'm enjoying it. I wasn't terribly enthusiastic at first but I had some great little episodes last night. There are some misisons where you need to stop a criminal convoy before they reach their destination and do some sort of a crime or whatever. Anyway (on about my tenth try) I tailed them for a while, hacking traffic lights to damage their cars a bit. I finally decided to make my move as they were waiting at a junction so I parked my car calmly walked over and unloaded my shotgun into their windscreen. I missed badly though and they took off. Jumped back in my car and chased them down, all the while fending off more baddies. The enemy AI, in cars at least seems the most capable I have come across in one of these types of games. Finally I got away from the chasing pack and onto the tail of the main target. He took to some train tracks but came to a stop when he had to wait for some sort of revolving train bridge thing to come back around so I just pushed him into the river and that was the end of him. But the others had now caught up again and were in even greater numbers. You either have to get away or kill them all to compete the mission. Didn't fancy my chances of killing them all so I drove off. All the while looking for a train station. Found one and ran desperately up to the steps to the station, firing back occasionally through the hail of bullets coming my way. Thankfully the bad guys don't seem very good at getting up stairs so I had enough time to hack a departing train on the opposite platform, jump in and set it going. Phew.

I like it because it's frequently quite difficult, but in a good way. When you die it's because you fucked up. Not sure if this will last or if character progression, more weapons and familiarity with all the game mechanics will mean that I become essentially invincible like in GTA but right now it's pretty much a perfect sandbox game. The city is pretty gorgeous too, I went for a long drive and it's a varied environment with tons of detail.
User avatar
I like the way it often becomes a 'fucking with the bad guys simulator'... 'hmm, I'll just wait until that guy walks past the electric box... *boom* hehehe. Oh and his mate appears to have a wi-fi enabled grenade (?!) hehehehehe.'

Yeah, only up to a point apparently. Got completely bored with it, nothing I could put my finger on but just got the point where I stopped wanting to play it. Traded it in and got Wolfenstein instead which is brilliant.
