Nintendo to slap adverts on gameplay footage of their games!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22552756

What next? Alan Sugar to slap adverts on people playing CPC games?

When you cut through a few hysterical posts, most people don't have an issue with it. If you show Nintendo footage you can't personally monetize it but they can. Sounds eminently reasonable.

I don't have an issue with it at all - seems fairly reasonable to me.

I agree. I would welcome it anyway! I'd rather see an advert for a Nintendo game on a YouTube channel then a crappy car or Lynx bodyspray advert.

Also... That Neogaf thread is hard to read. Because the forum is so popular, people all post the same stuff at the same time. I've signed up for it but I think it might be too busy for my tastes.

I'm not sure that's how it's going to work.

I think the adverts will still be for whatever, but money for the click-throughs will go to Ninty, and not the people who made the video.

I'm sure I read that Nintendo wanted their adverts on there, but I could be wrong. If they aren't Nintendo adverts then the whole system is a disgrace and I shall never buy another Nintendo game as long as I live.

Its an interesting way of going about things and I wonder if Sony or Microsoft will follow the Nintendo route - especially since the PS4 has this streaming option built in and i expect tomorrows Xbox reveal to say that have the same thing (and have partnered with Twitch.tv)

The 'complaint' here from the users is that some people put up videos of gameplay on youtube which apart from having the game content have their own playthough (so their skills at doing particular parts of the game) , their own commentary and other things that they have worked on.

In the past they put these videos up , youtube added random adverts and they got money from it (in some cases quite good money).

What Nintendo have done is said that if the game being played is theirs then they are claiming ownership of the base material , and claim the advertising revenue for it , so Nintendo will make the money not the person playing the game / making the commentary.

To me neither is a great answer it needs to be somewhere in between but that is not really possible right now so its swinging to one extreme or the other.
