Cage was fantastic in Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans.

Also the first trailer is out for the Alan Partridge Film.

Not sure what to make of it at the moment.

I used to dislike Nic Cage. Watching Raising Arizona, Kick Ass and Bad Lieutenant in a short space of time changed that.

Re Jim Carrey. He seems to pull faces a lot. And not even other people's (I'd like a film of that). He was pretty good in Truman Show. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was woeful.

Cage was woeful in The Rock.

Anyone seen the film he did called something like Red Rock? I recall that being quite good.

Cage was woeful in Face/Off, Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, Kick Ass, Leaving Las Vegas, Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Con Air, Grindhouse and probably everything else he's been in. I can't fucking stand him. As soon as I see his fucking face I want to put my fist through the screen.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone isn't incredible. But it's okay. It has Olivia Wilde in it so that's good.

I wrote an A level assignment on Jim Carrey for Media Studies when, at the time, I hadn't seen a single one of his films.

I passed.

Red Rock West, directed by John Dahl. If you like that movie you should really check out Dahl's next film, The Last Seduction.

Cage was hi-larious in Kick-Ass, a film that tragically betrays itself in the end and winds up ho-hum.

The true awesome redemption of Cage one will find in Bad Lieutenant, a film of incomparable aceness. Haven't we all had this conversation about four times already, btw? ?:|

I saw Red Rock West a long time ago - it was a late-night TV film. I recall liking it, so I'll give The Last Seduction a go. Cheers!

I watched Raven today. It's about Edgar Allen Poe, and plays on the fact that no-one knows how he died. In the film, the last few days of Poe's life were spent chasing some nutter who is killing people in the same way that Poe describes in his books.

I probably would have thought it was alright, but there weren't enough big men or machine guns, so it was crap. It was dark though - I mean, literally - sometimes you can barely see what's going on.

Picked up 'American Reunion' (the 'American Pie' reunion film) at the supermarket yesterday, and just watched it. For someone who was the same age as the characters when the first films came out, it was, at times, painful to watch some of the sequences in this latest film. I recognised way too much: I dare anyone entering their 30s not to laugh out loud, and then quietly cry, during the party at Stifler's, for example.

It certainly wasn't laugh a minute, but was more a touching look at how growing up changes what we want from life. I enjoyed it - but then, back in the late 90s, I too had the whole of adulthood to come to terms with.

I watched the first 15-20 minutes of that, and then gave up, I thought it was shit.

Rewatching Dredd - it really is good. However, I did end up accidentally watching a different, slightly cut, version. They left out e.g. the skin cutting bit when Anderson psychs the black MaMa guy. Pfft.

Watched Cocaine Cowboys 1 & 2 recently, after the guys that made Hotline Miami said they were big influences in the game.

Pretty good documentaries charting the trade of Cocaine in the US from the 70s to the 90s. Speaks to a bunch of ex-dealers from the top of the pyramid.

Cor blimey that Universal Solider reimagining was pretty darn rootin' tootin' good.

Ace direction as well. Wiggidy wiggidy not wack!

It's just a shame the two worse fights involved exactly the two peeps that you want to bring something special to the table other than just their familiar wrinkly crinkly faces.

Make sure you buy the NC-17/unrated cut.

The R rated version is knocking around out there and it's been pretty badly censored.

I thought it was atrocious, we turned it off after 40 minutes, as the plot still hadn't kicked in, and there had only been one fight by then.

Also, also I loved the minimalist storytelling which hinted at a larger story with very little exposition at all. VD's last words were great to explain his plight.

Apparently Emma Watson is going to play the lead girl in the 50 Shades of Grey movie.

There was a rumour it was going to be Mila Kunis, which would have secured my ticket.

Was in one of those 'I have no idea what I want to watch' moods last night so just fired up Netflix and had a scan around, Ghostbusters caught my eye so I whacked that on.

Still a really, really good film. I note that at some point over the years it's been upgraded from a PG to 12.

Really? It's "dick" in all of the versions I've seen, apart from the TV versions where they go down a completely different path.

"Penis" wouldn't even work, with Ray's preceding line of "everything was fine with our system, until the power grid was shut off by dickless, here."

Or am I missing a "big stampy boots" moment or something? ;)

I saw The Croods yesterday. It's pretty good, but the visuals are stunning, properly different league stuff. Also, Eep (not Eve as I heard throughout the entire film) was oddly sexual in her movement, I thought.

I think it was actually recommended here before but I wanted to bring Cell 211 to the attention of anyone who hasn't seen it because it's fucking excellent. It's a Spanish film about a recently hired prison guard who goes in the day before he's due to start work in order to meet some of his new colleagues and just get the lay of the land before his first day proper. While he's getting a tour a riot breaks out and he's separated from his fellow guards in the wing of the prison that the inmates have taken control of. In order to not get murdered he spends the rest of the film pretending to be a newly arrive inmate and the tension ramps up as you fear his lie unravelling at any moment. It's all very well acted stuff with some impressively psychotic turns by the guys playing the inmate ringleaders and I thoroughly recommend it.

That sounds excellent. Shall investigate tonight I think.

Watched "The Bay" last night (keywords: "found footage", eco-horror) it was alright I suppose, quite inventive is some ways. We also stumbled across "Galaxy of Terror" on Netflix. Avoid at all costs.

I found Cell 211 to be good but not amazing, worth a watch but IMO it's been a bit over-praised in some quarters.
