I've found some batteries!

This is brilliant fun. It's a tricky bugger to control but it makes sense, I just need to get the hang of it. I managed to break a propeller by flying it into the tv stand but luckily it came with some spares. Almost as if they knew I'd break it!

I did that calibration thing and it still seems to move about on take off though. Maybe I need to mess with the trim a bit more?

Either way.. I'm loving it.

Got the Phantom to take off, and it is very responsive to controls.

No doubt i'll get used to it, but at the moment I'm having trouble visualising in my head what the various control sticks will do when moved. I'm also trying to fly it in my back garden, which isn't ideal as it's quite small, and has trees and washing lines all over the place.

Gonna take it out to a larger field later today or tomorrow and do some fly bys.

You could do a lot worse than to buy one of those little Hubsan quads to learn on, they're just the same to fly. It would probably be £30 well spent.

It was my new motor. Picked it up this morning.

Pretty quick delivery that. You got your suspension bits through yet Mark?

No, not yet. They're out of stock at the moment so I keep looking at other cars and twitching.

Ready to run. I don't think I'll bother though, pretty happy with the one I've got (I'll just stick to the smaller batteries once it's fixed).

Yeah, probably for the best.

Funny watching it trying to hold onto the ground though.

It's been nothing but windy here since my Quadrocopter turned up. I'm dying to have a go with it outside with no ceilings.

There's a keenly priced one on HobbyKing. Also with a load of insulation tape on its tyres my little buggy is pretty good for drifting. They're all 4WD as its too hard to balance a RWD RC car in a drift.

It's insane what some people spend on it. Some of them could go racing in an actual car.

£500? We could put a roll cage in your Seat for that and take it down to that track.

Motor and ESC fitted and working. Ran much faster on the half charged batteries I had ready. It'll take lipos too now :) so they'll be next...

After I've replaced the front shock tower that's just snapped. :'(

Yes.

On Freeport car park, went out of sight behind a bush and smacked it into a kerb when I misjudged where the gap was. Must have hit it right on the corner.

Part ordered last night, should be here by weekend hopefully.

I was tempted to get an Aluminium replacement part but that would mean waiting a couple of weeks for a cheap one from HK. Or pay double for a UK one.

Might do that at some point though, see how I get on.

I'll just drive it on the grass.

No chance of breaking a shock tower then.

Going to set up my big ten foot span motor glider for video piloting. Should be a really nice steady ride, looking forward to catching some thermals with it and getting some altitude.

My on screen display has an alitmeter but I could do with a variometer really for more efficient soaring. Not too bad though as round here most decent thermals are visible because of all the gulls. I reckon I should get an hours flight out of one battery even if I don't encounter any lift.

Nice.

I mentioned the possibility of Drift RC car ownership to MrsZ last night.

It went well I thought.

I was going to do the thing with the tiny straws but the propellers are really hard to get off. Looks like a job for the weekend I think.

Yeah you need to be a bit careful, if you just pull on the props you'll likely lift the whole motor out of the mount and possibly break the wires. You need to be pushing down on the top of the motor can. A fork would do it, with the motor spindle between two of the prongs if you see what I mean.

I read that wire snips will work if you're careful. Use them with the flat part of the cutter against the propeller and as you squeeze, the diagonal part of the snips should push against the motor and eventually push the blade off.

If you get me? I haven't described that very well.

Un-fucking-believable.

Took the Phantom out for another attempt in a larger field. Took off, was just getting to grips with it when a gust of wind came in from somewhere, lifted it up high and carried it out. Tried to fly it back but the damn thing was nowhere near strong enough to resist the wind, so it's gone.

Where, I don't know - it went up proper fuckin' high before I lost sight of it. Hopefully it landed somewhere safely when it lost connection with the TX, and didn't crash through someone's greenhouse or anything.

Good job I added it to my home contents insurance :P

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Could you get a "Return to Mr Gazchap <cellphone number> £50 reward" stickers made? Was there a camera on it?
