You could also probably pick up a licensed copy on ebay for cheapness (depends on how legal you want to be) , or you can get it via some student offers / via an MSDN sub ?

It also may help if you give a bit more details on what they actually want (do they really need office and if so does it matter which version?)

We had a portable aircon in our server room. On hot days I would suddenly be required to spend lots of time in there.

Mind you, when I worked at a place with 3 data centres on-site, you could go off for a wander on a pretext of checking something and be away for ages.

At same place we also had a private racks area behind glass in my office where I would go behind the racks and make phonecalls or just generally try to look busy but actually be doing fuck all.

The guest list for the wedding keeps creeping up. I am going to have to embark on a major campaign of being rude to people soon.

Cook at the weekend so you've got stuff to take in throughout the week. Big pots of ragu/chilli/soup, that sort of thing.
Buy stuff like supermarket salads that you can keep in the fridge and take into work with you - no prep work needed.
Stop paying attention to whether your socks are on inside-out or not.

Sartorial blog: I wear two pairs of socks at the moment, as the ones I got from amazon (£8 for 12 pairs) are a bit thin

If you invite people from the "internet" this is what the weddings photos will look like

As I understand, at least 3 of the people pictured post here.

My wedding probably had as many people watching the webcast as were actually there.

We're doing this Secret Santa thing at work, so I went to the time and effort of looking in my cupboard for something I didn't want and brought it in. I went to the drawer in the office where the rest are, and people have wrapped them up! What madeness is this! I've no idea where I'm going to find wrapping paper by lunchtime....

Well, the database has enver broken quite like that before... Never mind, I'm sure I will be able to fix it, with my huge knowledge of pressing buttons. or I'll go home.

Lad in our office did that, wrapped up some Disney mug he found at the back of his cupboard. We shamed him into getting something properly, the cheap bastard.

Yeah, this year Myp got a Movember mug with a moustache and "Porn Star" written on it from his work Secret Santa. There's never been a less appropriate present.

I've got to the point now where people don't even ask me to be in collections or secret Santas.

Someone made the mistake of asking me for some money for the birthday of someone I don't like. I went off on one saying that if I contributed to their collection then they'd be taking presents off my daughter and would their conscience be able to live with that?

I thought so.

We have our annual Christmas "party" this lunchtime (there is a night out too, this is another thing). We stand around for an hour in a common room exchanging rubbish gifts, drinking plastic glasses of warm diet coke and enjoying a feast of supermarket sandwiches and other assorted shittery. I don't mind spending time with colleagues in a social context but only if I can get shifaced. This event feels like about as comfortable for me as tooth extraction.

That's the only good thing about my work place. Because no one likes each other, there's no forced social interactions.

Saying that, last year they had a buffet for someones birthday. I remember it well because I went to sit in my car.
