OOOh I like those!!

The Olympic Torch came through Bradford today. As I was bored, I thought I'd go check it out. The train takes 15 minutes, and I needn't have bothered buying a ticket there and back, as there wasn't a conductor. i arrived in plenty of time, which was a good thing, the place was teeming with epople wanting to see this once in a lifetime spectacle.

Then the man ran past

and we shouted "Hooray!" and he gave to torch to someone else and we shouted "Hooray!" once more, and then that was it and we went home. It was really weird, like some kind of shit carnival.

The Olympics were held in London in 1948.

Ah, Bradford. Blackened yellow buildings, lots of construction, guided buses. The complete apathy was a nice touch too, it looks like half of those people were just waiting to cross the street to throw up in the footpath behind the Alhambra.

Someone at work brought their Olympic torch into the office and stood about with it grinning like a loon. I think maybe three people showed an interest. Poor lad.

It took some finding out, but the torch didn't go through Bradford in 1948, so MaliA is correct

Then again, all it would take is for the Olympics to be here again in 2024, and he'd be wrong.
Or, of course, if an owner of one of the torches lit it and carried it though again.

I was proud to be part of a once in a lifetime event that will echo through the epochs of history. The games will be a complete success. My being given a bottle of Coke Zero has had no influence on my opinion of this great endeavour.

The Olympic torch is over this way next weekend and I was looking forward to it but if they're giving away Coke Zero, I might pass... Yuk.

I've got caffeine-free Diet Coke in my fridge, so Coke Zero would be very welcome.
Pepsi Max is my favorite.

I like my cola drinks with as much sugar as possible in. That's why this was the best drink on holiday last year:-

I was always a Pepsi fan, and can tell the difference between coke, diet coke, pepsi, diet pepsi, and so on.

But Pepsi Max has the most caramel flavour and is the best, so Grim... Is right once again...

The olympic stadium (and indeed the river and all of the other recognisable big buildings in London) looked rather lovely glinting in the early morning sunshine as the plane approached to land at Heathrow one early morning last week, and the parks all looked a fantastic deep green. It was actually quite wonderful looking at that from up high.

I haven't spent much time around that way, but I hear the area surrounding the olympic park is a bit of a shithole. Is this accurate?

Seems I should have gone to Skipton or Ilkley.

I'm skeptical of people that say they can taste the difference between Coke and Pepsi.

I've always thought I could tell the difference, but I did some blind taste tests a while back and actually couldn't.

So there.

Pepsi is more cloying.

Coke has more of a "summer breeze" feel, whereas Pepsi is more "autumn glow after a short thunderstorm, while walking through a forest"

Pepsi has far more of an aniseed taste to it, compared to Coke.

Kashmir, behind the Alhambra I think, is a fave of Mrs P from her college days in Bratfud.

I do think the olympics is a monstrous cash-drain and I really don't like the way the IOC seem to basically take the piss, but I'd go and see the torch relay if it was close by, and the weather was OK.

Karachi's great. Had a meat 'Rick Stein' there this weekend. But yeah, Westgate is similar in that it's very unassuming, but brings the curry quality. It's full of muslims and taxi drivers: sign of a good curry house!
