So what does Wikipedia say about the number 34 ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/34_%28number%29

Quote:
34 (thirty-four) is the natural number following 33 and preceding 35.

Quote:
In mathematics

34 is the ninth distinct semiprime and has four divisors including unity and itself. Its neighbors, 33 and 35, also are distinct semiprimes, having four divisors each, and 34 is the smallest number to be surrounded by numbers with the same number of divisors as it has. It is also in the first cluster of three distinct semiprimes, being within 33, 34, 35; the next such cluster of semiprimes is 85, 86, 87.

It is the ninth Fibonacci number and a companion Pell number. Since it is an odd-indexed Fibonacci number, 34 is a Markov number, appearing in solutions with other Fibonacci numbers, such as (1, 13, 34), (1, 34, 89), etc.

This number is the magic constant of a 4 by 4 normal magic square:[1]
MagicSquare-AlbrechtDürer.png

Thirty-four is a heptagonal number.

It has the aliquot sum, 20, in the following descending sequence 34,20,22,14,10,8,7,1. and it is the 6th composite member of the 7-aliquot tree.

There is no solution to the equation φ(x) = 34, making 34 a nontotient. Nor is there a solution to the equation x - φ(x) = 34, making 34 a noncototient.

In science

The atomic number of selenium
Messier object M34, a magnitude 6.0 open cluster in the constellation Perseus
The New General Catalogue object NGC 34, a peculiar galaxy in the constellation Cetus
The Saros number of the solar eclipse series which began on 1917 BC August and ended on 384 BC February. The duration of Saros series 34 was 1532.5 years, and it contained 86 solar eclipses.
The Saros number of the lunar eclipse series which began on 1633 BC May and ended on 335 BC June. The duration of Saros series 34 was 1298.1 years, and it contained 73 lunar eclipses.

In sports

The jersey number 34 has been retired by several North American sports teams in honor of past playing greats or other key figures:
In Major League Baseball:
The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, both for Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan.
The Minnesota Twins, for Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett.
The Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers, both for Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers.
Additionally, the Los Angeles Dodgers have not issued the number since the departure of Fernando Valenzuela following the 1990 season. Under current team policy, Valenzuela's number is not eligible for retirement because he is not in the Hall of Fame.
In the NBA:
The Houston Rockets, for Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon.
In the NFL:
The Chicago Bears, for Hall of Famer Walter Payton.
The Houston Oilers, for Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. The franchise continues to honor the number in its current incarnation as the Tennessee Titans.

Of course not! They take turns making the quiz, cycling round regular teams (one person makes the quiz, not sharing with the team). Mostly middle-aged people, with us being "young" (late thirties and me) - so on our turn we demolished everyone else because of knowing about cartoons we watched, music we listen to, and beer nerding, when normally we came mid-table.

Sounds like a good way of organising it. MrsA came to the quiz at the brown Cow with me a few times. Ity was fun. I like quizzes. Even Curio's. His is dead tricky.

Boo! I want to ride my bike, which means wearing shorts, and if it is cold then I can't. We've at 70m, apaprently, which is good.

Being in work today is so much fun... Could be worse, I could be at home with Ramsea and the children, I guess.

Went to Mcdonalds for a filthshake for lunch, seems a huge number of parents have resorted to it already and it's only day one of the holidays.

A woman that lives down the road from my office (and therefore, by extension, my old flat) has suddenly turned into a cantankerous old fart.

I've always been polite and friendly with her, saying hello (and getting polite conversation back.)

Now I've moved away, and occasionally need to park my car on the street as there's sometimes no room on the office car park. This time, I parked on the street whilst she was there, so said my usual "Hello, how are you?" to her when I got out.

"Not very good, while you're parked there." was the curt reply.

"Oh, why's that?"

"Because you don't live here."

"Well, no, but it's not illegal to park there is it?"

"And what happens if my invalid friend wants to come and visit me?"

I didn't really have an answer to that, so I simply said, "Well, I'll be gone soon."

"Make it sooner."

And with that, she walked off. Parking. SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Given where I lived as a kid, worked as a teenager, worked as a young adult and where my school was located, I've probably spent over 50% of my life within a mile of the A34, despite not having lived there for 14 years.

Well, what happens if your even more invalid friend who's an orphan and looks after sick kittens wants to visit you at work, whilst her invalid friend is parked outside? What then, grumpy old lady? WHAT THEN?

Not unlike the miserable old cunt who lives up the side street I tend to park on. Sometimes the usual spots aren't available so I have to park nearer his house. Same stuff, it's not illegal but YOU AIN'T FROM ROUND HERE so don't make it a habit.

My new next door neighbour has two cars (we think) but only room for one in the garage, so they have to park on the road. They park wherever they like and it pleases me to imagine miserable old cunt having high blood pressure and dying in his fury at someone parking legally on 'his' street despite them technically being his neighbours too.

Hmm, that sounds like what I have. It's knocked me back a bit because my entire body hurts so walking is shaky and difficult and I keep burning up really badly. I've also got a horribly sore throat and my breathing is difficult, too. Yay spring. :droool:

/sigh my bay window/door just fell inwards into my living room, no one was in there but apparently I have a house alarm and it's not wired into the mains and I have no code or keys to turn it off. It is also loud as shit, or was before it met the f'king hammer. Waiting on a call from the man who will be fixing it.

Door update: Looking like the door was never fitted correctly in the first place, should be bits of broken metal and bolts all over the place, there is not, so the man said that there would not have been bolts in the first place. There was a dining room table in front of the door and it was hit so hard it flipped over, but prevented the door from hitting my son, had it not been there he could have been killed. Chilling thing is that the door could have fallen in at any point in the last 3/4 years and I only moved the table there a week ago. The girl is currently crying because I won't let her in there to watch TV. >:| My mother is bitching to me about having to replace the whole thing, I am bitching to bff because the house could have murdered my children and if I'm honest I don't give a fuck how much it's going to cost her to replace the damn thing.

'elve'ica

Though I actually like Microsoft Sans Serif, for Windows boxes.

Stupid Google.

Nurse shark? Interesting choice. Should be Llama, manatee, narwhal...

Sensible suggestion HI-5! Hmmm, I'm torn now.

What do we think about a section about how great I am on the CV? Maybe on a third page. Everyone will all be reducing the size of their font to fit on two pages and I'll just bitch slap them with a third page of awesome.

Russell drew it for me. It's the videogame character, Kirby.

No it's not. It's a pink frog air steward who's just popping his head around asking you if everything is agreeable.
