Went through to the Catacombs and met the masked boss(es) and decided after a brief battle to heroically use a homeward bone to save the souls I'd already collected. Went back down and found the Dark Seance Ring but got side tracked form facing the boss again due to finding a coffin to sleep in and going to say hi to the Gravelord.

The Skull lantern is pretty handy when equipped in left hand.

EDIT: Re: Anor Londo fight...It's gotta be the hardest boss fight in the game. I found it easier to try and get MC Hammer to get temporarily lodged behind pillar while I chipped away at the other guy. It was a long and tedious fight as I'd be running from one set of pillars to the other just waiting for the right time to jab at the thin one.

I'll tell you this much though, fire weapons will make the fight a whole lot quicker. Don't bother with the lightning weapons - they're useless against them.

Oh and once you get rid of the thin one you can throw every last bit of magic at the other when either gets stuck on a pillar or after his big moves. Still bloody hard though, reminded me of a Devil May Cry boss fight in that absolute patience is needed.

I'm down to the last lord boss on my second run though, and it's Nito in sodding Tomb if the Giants. Bloody place is still scary with some of the worst energy sapping bastards around on thin walkways.

I did find this though because I had the latern from the last game: when enter and meet the very first skeleton there's a couple of slides into the deeper parts. When you start to descend you get attacked by arrows and I never did find out where they came from but just before the first slide you can jump to the left of it into the darkness onto a ledge. Bit of a secret bit that you forget about as you crack on to find the bonfire (well I did anyway since I never found it before).

I still got trampled on by loads of giant skeletons mind...

I think my next attempt will use toxic mist on them. Are they viulnerable to poison? My attempts to use poison arrows on them were met with avoidance and a hammer.

I put my faith up a bit to enable users of the health miracle. Of course what now happens is I switch to a talisman and then chuffed an estus rather than using the talisman.

Excellent work!

I got invaded last night and was able to summon two people to help out before I was found. We kicked the living shit out of the invader in record time - it was quite impressive.

The online stuff is quite unlike anything else out there. It's lovely.

It's really well done. I always try to gesture at least as way of saying thanks, but sometimes they've given their lives before I get the chance. :'(

I got invaded by a Black Phantom last night and he was so much more powerful (think he was hurling soul spears at me, they knocked chunks of me) than I was, didn't stand a chance. You just never know who you're going to meet up with or face, love the diversity of the characters folks have made.

Oh yeah, one guy who joined me the other night was casting Homing Soul Masses and I noticed they produced an arc of 5 (like on the spell icon) but I only produce 4, same with the Crystal Homing Soul Mass spell too. Why's that then?

Exactly. I thought I might meet loads of people wearing Havels entire outfit which I've been wearing but I've not met one single person. Seems like everyone has found their tool of the trade as well; I've had my life swatted out of existence by poles, clubs, axes, swords and one guy who punched me right in the face. Love this game.

I've reached the final boss again and I'm afraid to say that once he's dead that'll be it for me. You can only have so much of a good thing and I want to play the first Uncharted in preparation of getting the third for sexymas.

This has been amazing, understated brilliance. I'm going to farm all the way to Ash Lake, level up some weapons and murder every NPC in the game, read the wikis to make sure i didnt miss something cool and then thrash the boss (eventually) but then I'll tuck the game away somewhere dry and warm for keepsies. I'm sure I'll clock up over a hundred hours before it goes back in the box so I reckon I got my money's worth and then some.

I feel a bit sad it's coming to an end again. I might listen to the music cd on the way to work tomorrow and have a little sob about the Game of the Year.

Dark Souls.

Im stuck in painting world now after I hit Sexy Reaper.

Didn't realise she turns invisible! That makes some of my strongest magic useless against her. :'(

Got her sussed though after a couple of gear changes (used one of my katanas to slice at her quickly to reappear then switch to halberd). Had her down to an eighth of her health before she got the better of me. It got late though so I'll kill her tonight.

Had another hour or so on this last night. Had it crash on me once which was a bit of a nuisance - thankfully the autosaving meant I hadn't lost much progress at all.

While I'm enjoying the game, there's part of me that thinks I might be playing it slightly wrong. Admittedly, I've not read the manual or the guide at all so I've just been figuring it out as I go along. I'm debating whether to stop and read up on stuff a bit more before I get stuck into it again, but I've also been enjoying the sense of achievement when I slowly piece things together. I do like how there is so much stuff that can be easily missed the first few times around (like the merchant, who I only found yesterday). I can't believe I missed that staircase right by the crow drop-off bit that leads down to the lift.. I just didn't notice it until last night.

One quick question though - can you sell stuff?

You're not doing it wrong, it's tough. Half the enjoyment is finding the best way for you to progress. To be fair though, I started again earlier on as my first character was a knight and I fancied starting as a Pyromancer (with the Master Key).

Have a look on the Dark Souls Wiki. The only game mechanic that I needed explaining was the whole Hollow/Humanity thing. I don't have the manual at all as I've only rented the game from Lovefilm.

You can sell stuff later, kind of, don't drop all that gear.

Don't look at the wiki's unless you absolutely must! It "is" an adventure!

Just discovering stuff, shortcuts, people, baddies, tactics, routes is all part of the experience. I didn't have a proper look at the wikis until I'd finished it the first time (I only dipped in to find out about humanity and levelling up the weapons).

Oh and Zardoz, ain't you a pyro? Stick that invisible bitch with a chaos fireball if youve gotbit when you see her footsteps in the snow. It makes her appear, though I can't 'member if she keeps disappearing but anyway the melty floor lava will catch her out.

I tried all my Pyro stuff at first, but she just kept of slapping me silly while I was casting it. I already had in mind to use my new technique of the Katana then Chaos Fireball when she appears when I play again tonight.

Like I say, I very nearly had her last night, but I stupidly stood in front of her Ice breath kiss thing trying to get a couple more hits in before she disappeared again.

run past, to the other side of the arena, and to the pathway. Obviously its a dead end, and she will follow you. Hit her with whatever magic or pyro spells you have. I think after 3 times she wont go invisible. Makes life easier. Avoid her wide area wind attack thing too if possible

I let her slip by until I read her soul can be used to turn into a nice catalyst. She didn't stand a chance after I was armed with that information.

I've only made three boss weapons at the moment and none of them have been much cop; I just like my halberd too much. I've got three now: fire, lightning and crystal all maxed out. Dual welding is unfortunately a non-starter.

I've got a +5 giant dragon axe which has 504 damage (which as far as I can see is the highest of all the weapons) yet it does less damage than any of the halberds.

I don't understand that at all.

Oh, unless it's only good for dragons? I might try that later on those Drakes.

Whether it scales with strength, dexterity and so on. Generally signifies by the letter where S Is the best then a, b...

the drake sword doesn't scale at all, so it wouldn't surprise me if you dragon axe doesn't either.

So basically the frame sword is awesome until you've put something into strength at which point it becomes considerably less good than other weapons as it's attack power doesn't scale with strength.

Oh ok, I'll have to have a look at that. My strength is at level 50 so I'd imagine that would really assist the scaling on a lot of the basic weapons like the halberd leaving this axe less impressive. No hang on, this axe needs level 50 to wield in the first place. No, I don't think I understand. I'll read up and come back to ya...

Killed Sexy reaper.

Went back to the Hollow tree and made it all the way down to the Ash Lake. Lit bonfire, but didn't rest... fell in water. So all the way fucking back up. Managed to get cursed on my next attempt down. :'( :)
