Sounds about right. Upon further reflection, I think I don't like the maps. BUT! I've only given them a couple of hours, plus I don't know if I've played them all yet. I am a little disappointed by the lack of long range sniping opportunities though. BLOPS had the same problem. All of the maps were pure CQB. I remember actually being able to use a sniper rifle properly in CoD 4 and to an extent in MW2, but now it seems they're only included to allow people to quick scope.

But yeah, I need to give it more play. I hope the maps reveal themselves to be good for sniping as well as running and gunning. I'm not even a sniper really, but I like the variety and the option if I'm bored of shooting and stabbing from feet away.

I LOVE IT.

Call me a fanboy but CoD has 'the' best shooting - second to none. Loving the maps I've played. Glad to have IW back after the disappointing CodBLOPS.

I think I'm gonna be all over this.

Man, just played on a great map! It was called... I dunno. I'll find out now!

Edit: Lockdown. Excellent map. I also like Fallen.

Edit edit: There are 16 maps! I guesstimate I've only played 8 or 10 because I seem to keep playing the same bloody ones.

Level 19 before I can play the lovely Hardcore modes?Good job I'm going up a rank every couple of minutes or I'd be very upset about that.

I like what they've done with the levelling up each weapon. It's a more linear approach than MW2 but there's a certain amount of pleasure filling the bar up with murder death kill.

I haven't seen the Container, Rust, Nuke Town level yet? Anyone else know what it is yet?

Mosh Pit!

You know what I've noticed? When you kill someone you get their mic feed for a second or two. I kept killing the same guy and was getting 'argh!' 'aww' 'fu-!' etc. :DD

And if anyone wants the info on perks

Perk 1 is Recon · Sleight of Hand · Blind Eye · Extreme Conditioning · Scavenger

I've not used Recon / pro'd sleight of hand (since there was nothing else at the start) and have *just* pro'd exteme conditioning however i expected to get no fall damage - instead its 'climb faster'

Perk 2 is Quickdraw · Blast Shield · Hardline · Assassin · Overkill

I like that hardline gives you a kill for 2 assists in pro mode - have switched a few to Assasin (with blind eye) which should be the 'not show up on radar' type stuff

Perk 3 is Marksman · Stalker · SitRep · Steady Aim · Dead Silence

I'm slowly pro'ing Steady Aim

Killstreak stuff

Assault (virtually not used any of these)
3: UAV · 4: Care Package · 5: Intelligent Munitions System · Predator Missile · Sentry Gun · 6: Precision Airstrike · 7: Attack Helicopter ·
9: Strafe Run · Little Bird Guard · Reaper · 10: Assault Drone · 12: AC130 · Pave Low · 15: Juggernaut · 17: Osprey Gunner · 25: M.O.A.B.

Support (I turned this on at the start and left it with the defaults of UAV / Sam / Advanced UAV but i'm looking at others now - playing domination i will typically go round the advanced UAV twice so the top packages should be do-able

4: UAV · 5: Counter-UAV · Ballistic Vests · Airdrop Trap · 8: SAM Turret · 10: Recon Drone · 12: Advanced UAV · Remote Turret · 14: Stealth Bomber · 18: EMP · Juggernaut Recon · Escort Airdrop · 25: M.O.A.B.

Specialist (tried once and its interesting to double up on the Perks but not sure about it)
2: Fourth Perk · 4: Fifth Perk · 6: Sixth Perk · 8: All Perks · 25: M.O.A.B.

Deathstreaks
4: Juiced · Martyrdom · Final Stand 5: Revenge · Hollow Points · 6: Dead Man's Hand

Juiced is good to get back into the action with - i've also tried final stand

Weapons wise i've hit about level 30 on the UMP ,and about level 15 on the SCAR , along with level 5 on the riot shield :-)

So, I like this completely now. Turns out I was playing on the same CQB maps over and over, but there is actually a lot of variety, and dare I say it, some instant classics. Seriously considering ELITE, but gonna wait a little longer before making up my mind.

Lag was getting better as the night went on. Had a few lag-free games and a few with small patches. Hope it's just teething problems with the game and not my internets all of a sudden!

Not sure at the moment.

maps feel very claustrophobic - corridors with clutter and lots of right angles, don't think I like , particularly after some of the open space in Blops.

I cannot rack up predator missiles use it or loose it - very annoying. In MW2 I liked to keep one in reserve for Pave lows.

Gun tweaks feel good - aiming slightly harder with extra kick and sway , rather than the reliable auto aim of 2.
Nice to be back with the same feel of the trusty Scar-H got the silencer quickly and all was well with the world.

bouncing bettys seem a bit over powered.

I prefer the blops purchase system better - I want the dead silence Perk now not bloody Lvl 55.

Overwatch was disappointing prefer 9 kill pave low of MW2.

Pave low got shot down very quickly - support packages working well then.

fucking quick scopers.

I encountered a pair of tactical insurgence chums in free for all last night already - shite.

I think this could be broken quicker than MW2. :(

Really enjoyed this last night. Took me a few games to get used to it, but then everything clicked soon enough.

I think the support streaks will come into their own on objective games, using the high ones. In TDM you might just get the Stealth Bomber at the end, but you need to really try to search out the enemies.

Love the maps. The African ones especially.

I really like the maps as well. There are a couple that I don't like on particular game modes but a a lot less than normal because when it is a big map and the game is something like demolition they seem to have put some thought into the placement of the bomb sites to use a smaller portion of the map.
I also really like the change to overtime in demolition as we discovered last night.

As I said , on Dominiation i'm hitting the advanced UAF (so 12 'points') twice in a single game , So i'll get anything thats on the list at least once - again good things about that are Killstreak "assists" counting to that total , capturing points counting towards it *and* shooting down enemy UAV's (so me taking that UAV down with my launcher counts as a kill).

Gilly wrote:

Yeah that was very confusing to begin with - but for those who have not seen it yet - in Demolition there were always maps where it was easier to attack or defend and if you got a reasonably matched team then it would go to a draw and then you'd get sudden death where it would depend if you got the easy role or not.

The new way of doing it is that overtime is a single bomb site , and you have to plant and detonate your bomb on there and so does the enemy - so if the enemy has planted you have to defuse and then plant your bomb.

I quite enjoyed the madness of that one where there's one flag and your team has to hold it the longest. It's mental when you get to hang onto it for a few seconds and know the entire other team is coming to get you as you're position is always highlighted.

Kill confirmed was loads of fun too (where you only get kills if you snatch a fallen tag, but the other team can scoop it back up and deny your kill). I played a few matches on that one with all the demolished cars and the match really moved around the map well. The team, with no one talking, stuck together out of necessity as there was strength in numbers pushing around and going forward for tags.

Cracking stuff.

Oh one thing i found playing that yesterday (which is not obvious) is the flag is spawned by the first death.

I've played a few great levels of that where as a group you get into a small confined space and have the flag carrier with a riot shield stay in the corner and have the rest of the team defend them (even better if its slightly away from a window - there are a few maps that have good sections for that)

Even a suicide? Blowing yourself up right at the start to get your team the flag while the enemy is still all on the other side of the map would be a few cheap points.

errr its the follow up to MW2 , and takes a lot of the ideas from that and adds to it (and fixes some other annoyances like the way you can get a blast shield perk if the other side just keeps trying to use nube tubes) of course its going to sound fun.

Then you add in riot shields which you can level up !

BTW for the no Commando perk (for the teleporting knives) I can see we have a melee upgrade on a lot of the weapons , and there is of course the tactical knife (i'm waiting to unlock the Magnum and will then get Tac-knife on there)

So... The microphone thing is properly hilarious. However, you don't hear it if you're in a party. I recommend playing not in a party to hear the angry cries of people you've killed. This feature might just be my favourite thing ever.

That sounds similar to the proximity chat that's in Halo 3.

It is, kind of! The difference is in Halo you could hear people you were stood next to when they were alive, which provided for all manner of hilarious japes. This just seems to kick in for a second after you kill them. I think they can hear you, too. So basically now whenever I kill someone, I cackle manically into the microphone and listen to an angry response from a 14 year old SARTH LANDANER. Brilliant.

I'd be tempted by this for that feature... particularly as when killed I'd congratulate my opponent as poshly as possible "I say, good shot old chap" and so on. Just be really sporting and nice to them all. If only there'd been a £25 release somewhere like Sainsbury's was for MW2.

It's just different. Same as BC2 and MW2. As I've said before, they shouldn't be compared and DICE/EA should be taken out and shot for getting it into their heads that competing directly with MW3 and changing the philosophy of their own game to do it was a good idea.

However, I would say that I'm enjoying MW3 a hell of a lot more than I have enjoyed BF3. Both console versions, though. I suspect I ought to have bought BF3 on the PC. And I still might, in fact.

Yeah sure! I'm totally not dismissing it as shit or anything. I know I could have more fun with it if I played it some more, but I can't shake the disappointment at it being a slightly hamstrung version of its PC big brother, which is why I might get it for that instead. Whilst the Bad Company games were made for console, this is definitely a "port", and probably one of the first actual genuine PC to console ports of this generation.

Also, I'll still be down for Bezzie nights. It's as good as Bad Company 2, which I loved. I just guess I expected a bit more.

Praps! The maps aren't as good, though. As we've said, the Karkand pack should help a lot in that department. I haven't given up on it just yet.

Out of the eight maps there are three I don't particularly like, but yes more maps would be nice.

I have friends only chat on so have totally missed out on the death chat thing that Jonarob is talking about.
The game we had of team defender last night on the London map was really good, when Jen hid with the flag inside the corridor and we defended both ways in. I got a decent amount of kills on that one and got two advanced uav's plus a stealth bomber and a juggernaut suit.
I can't wait to get home and play more! I think I'll play mosh pit every night this week and then some point at the weekend i'll have a go at hardcore search and destroy.

So is this better than Battlefield?

Much better.

The thing that often annoys me about some games of Battlefield is that it can be very empty with people off in planes and tanks and what not whereas you are never moments away from getting in the thick of it in MW if you want to. I played some BF the other day when I hijacked a game with Myps et all and there was one game of domination where I was covering a flag for ages with no one in sight during most of the game even when I was following the rest of the squad about too. The game ended after twenty minutes or so and absolutely everyone had 5 or less kills between them because they never met the opposition. That would almost certainly never happen on MW.

And you can complain about kill streaks but tanks are a regular nightmare. One on the turret and one on the gun and someone repairing and they become a frequent death bringer. If you haven't got a tank yourself you're screwed. I piled innumerable rockets into a tank and it took forever to get rid Of it but even them someone would repair it and it'd be straight back up murdering all in sight. At least kill streaks only last 30 seconds or less whereas these tanks can be a persistent nuisance.

I'm sure there's lots of fun to be had but MW trounces this so far for quality and pure fun.

Err, you must've been playing with a completely different myp. I don't remember that game at all... for a start the game mode is Conquest, and secondly it's about points for capturing the objectives. I've finished as MVP before despite having 0 kills and 4 deaths. You are playing Battlefield like CoD, and therein lies your problem.

I'm being lazy here, but what are the differences between the two? Is it just that the pc version has a higher number of players? I have the pc version and I think the max players Ive seen is 64.

Yeah the PC version supports up to 64 players and has much, much larger maps. The console version is capped at just 24 players. But perhaps more importantly, the game has been designed with 64 players in mind, including the maps. Therefore, the 24 player console versions of the maps don't - in my opinion - play very well. At least, they don't play as well as the 24 player Bad Company maps that were made specifically for 24 players and not chopped down from 64.

It was the one with the oil refinery and three points spread out with a whole lot of desert between each. It had choppers and, er, you can run between the buildings across pipe walkways.

I can see why not killing people but being rewarded for completing objectives appeals, but not getting any action for twenty minutes was dull as fuck.

Oh, the desert one with all the tanks, humvees, jeeps, jets and helicopters, yeah. And you were running between the points. You should really stick to Call of Duty. ;)

Cheers for that. Well in that case, buy the pc version now! :)

Ah, would seem the wife ordered this for delivery, not pick up. And as I'm home, and the game isn't, seems it may be delivered tomorrow.
